Double winner Looft avoids bad luck in Arlington’s turn three

ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 29, 2023) – The number 3 was unlucky Saturday night at Arlington Raceway as there were three rollovers in turn three that resulted in considerable damage to as many cars. The first was in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock race on the first lap when Travis Manderfield’s drive shaft broke and sent him rolling off the track. He was ok, but out of the race. Then Blake Foesch had the misfortune of rolling after an axle tube broke after leading the first three laps and he, too, was out of the race. When the race got started again, Chad Volk took the lead for two laps but undefeated for the season Cory Probst moved forward each lap from his 10th place start and took over the top spot on the sixth lap. Volk then contended with Jonathan Schroeder for second with Schroeder getting by him. Volk finished third ahead of Jed Trebelhorn. Jason Bolte led the entire Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature. Bubba Brown was second until he encountered troubles on the sixth [Read More]

Salute to Veterans show at Kossuth County draws 137 cars

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 27, 2023) – It was the eighth annual Hunting With Heroes Salute to Veterans night at Kossuth County Speedway on Thursday as the event just continues to break more records every year. An event-high 137 cars signed in the pit shack to compete for an increased purse but more importantly a hand-carved trophy and an opportunity to give a veteran a prize worth at least $300 with a top three finish. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature saw a veteran driver win what he said in the winner’s circle was the biggest victory in his racing career. Todd Stinehart took the top spot early and built a lead but the yellow flag came out lap number three and again three laps later. But after that, the feature went non-stop as emotional Stinehart was elated in victory lane with the biggest win of his 28-year career and a nice $3,500 first place check helped a little bit, too. The big win also made Stinehart eligible to qualify for the Fast [Read More]

We are still working on little tweaks to make sure that from the time racers pull into the pits and park their hauler or fans get their campers situated, to the time they go home that they have a good time,” said IMCA President Brett Root. “Most people come to Super Nationals to have a good time and that’s what we want, too,” he added. “It’s a great week for us and we want every driver and every fan to have the [Read More]

Wright racing for more than wins at Rock Springs

ROCK SPRINGS, Wy. (July 31, 2023) – The goals of every race car driver are to win races and championships. Kaden Wright wants to do more than that this season. The second-year Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact driver is racing to promote suicide awareness and mental health awareness, a campaign he’s taken to the track at hometown Sweetwater Speedway. Seventeen years old and a senior-to-be at Rock Springs, Wy., High School, Wright has changed his number from 83K to 988, the three-digit dialing code that routes callers to a nation-wide suicide and crisis lifeline, with a new, attention-getting bright purple and teal color scheme to his car as well. “The reaction has been very welcoming. We have had a lot of people, some of them people I’d never met before, thank us for doing this and tell us it was important,” said Wright. “There have been kids who have told me they’ve been able to talk more about their problems.” “If we can keep one person from taking their life, we’ve accomplished something.” Candid about his [Read More]

Off Road Speedway feature wins occur in a variety of ways

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (July 29, 2023) – Variety was the operative word for Saturday night’s feature winners at Off Road Speedway. Each of those winners would have had a descriptive story to hash over in any sort of late night, after competition conversation in the pit area before loading up their cars for the journey home. Dylan Schmer, for example, probably felt like he won the IMCA Sunoco Late Models feature more than once after he had to overcome a number of challenges even after producing large leads on multiple occasions. Three cautions, the last two with under eight laps remaining, along with twice catching up to and having to contend with lapped traffic on both the high and low lines, kept challengers within reach. But in the end, Schmer simply had too much speed and power for the rest of the field, using the high line of the track to secure his first win at Off Road Speedway this season. Chase Osborne came from a starting position in the sixth row within [Read More]

Scarborough sweeps Winchester

By Jim Haines WINCHESTER, Va. (July 29, 2023) – John Scarborough had a perfect night Saturday, winning his heat and taking the top spot of the feature at Winchester Speedway co-sanctioned by the Virginia Sprint Series and Laurel Highlands Sprint Series. Twenty-four IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars signed in on what turned out to be a breezy, nice evening. Scarborough and Ryan Lynn paced the feature to green with Scarborough staying low and leaving Lynn to deal with a charging Donnie Hendershot. The track was full of cars and traffic came in to play quickly, bunching up the frontrunners. Scarborough stayed low and worked his way through but not without Hendershot and Lynn staying right on him and sometimes next to him. Hendershot made a run for the lead after getting by Lynn but a yellow for a stalled car slowed the pace. With two to go, Scarborough took off and Hendershot was not able to keep Lynn behind him as retook second and laps ran out to make a charge as Scarborough flashed under a [Read More]
