Woodworth tops Drive for 5, Profeta wins career first feature at Lee County

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (June 23, 2023) –  Dennis Woodworth won the headline race and Nicholas Profeta won for the first time Friday at Lee County Speedway. The 25-lap Iowa Corn Growers Association Drive For 5 IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature took the green flag with Woodworth and Nick Marolf on the front row. Woodworth edged Marolf to lead lap one over Tommy Elston. While Woodworth worked the bottom of the track, Marolf work the top and used the momentum off the top of turn four to edge ahead on Woodworth on lap four. Marolf pulled away from Woodworth before encountering lapped traffic on lap 12. This allowed Woodworth to close back in. Woodworth used lapped traffic to slip back by Marolf for the top spot on lap 16, only to have Marolf get the lead back on the next lap. When Marolf tried the top to get by another lapped car on lap 22, it allowed Woodworth to shoot by for the top spot. Woodworth then held off Marolf over the final laps to claim his first [Read More]

Garnhart wins nailbiter at Maquoketa before rain arrives

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (June 24, 2023) – Amhof Trucking of Eldridge hosted on-track action Saturday night at Maquoketa Speedway. The racing took place under the threat of an approaching storm so the program was moved along as quickly as possible.  The IMCA Sunoco Late Models once again provided fans with a thrilling finish. As the winds began to whip around the fairgrounds, the Late Models were battling for position all the way through their 16-car field.  Race leader Dalton Simonsen took the white flag with what appeared to be a good enough lead that would allow him to score the win. Bryce Garnhart, however, had different ideas as he took his number 3 ride to the inside of Simonsen as the two raced down the back chute, setting up a charge to the finish off turn four which would net a feature win for Garnhart by less than two feet. Following Simonsen across the finish line were CJ Horn and early leader Scott Olson, who took fourth.  The Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods [Read More]

Duffy tops thriller, Mohr wins first at Maquoketa

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (June 17, 2023) – Maquoketa Speedway hosted Oly’s Garage Night at the races on Saturday night. Beautiful weather and a very fast tacky track provided for an action-packed night of stock car racing.  The headliner of the night featured the return of the IMCA Sunoco Late Models and a field of 16 cars took the green flag for a 25-lap feature that went flag to flag. Logan Duffy took the lead from pole sitter Brandon Loos and went on to build a comfortable advantage. As the laps wound down, the lead pack swelled to three as Bryce Garnhart and Dalton Simonsen joined Duffy.  Both Simonsen and Garnhart were scored as leaders late in the race. The front trio came on lapped traffic as the white flag waved. Coming to the checkers the three all took evasive action to try and clear the lapped cars. The checkers waved with a pack of five cars crossing the finish line, Duffy took the win by a one foot margin ahead of Garnhart with [Read More]

Off Road Speedway doubles up with make-up features

By Randy Pospishilsports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (June 17, 2023) – Off Road Speedway doubled up on its regular slate of racing Saturday night, adding the features that were rained out a week ago to offer race fans and drivers a two-for-one bonus opportunity. For some drivers, who appear to be finding the most effective setup for the Norfolk track and are preparing their cars accordingly, that became a chance to double up on finishes among the top five or, in some cases, to notch another win. Four-time defending national champion Cory Dumpert picked up his third Off Road Speedway feature win of the season in the IMCA Sunoco Late Model division. Dumpert started five rows back and wasn’t among the top six cars chasing leader Ben Sukup, but that changed with nine laps left. Dumpert, who normally favors the high line, made a move into fourth place then third one lap later, before passing both Alex Banks and Ben Sukup on the outside as he accelerated out of turns one and two with the lead. Dumpert won [Read More]
