Haney, Williams win first features at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (May 20, 2023) – It would be hard to top Saturday for a fantastic way to spend an evening out! Armed Forces Night at Eagle Raceway saw a big crowd, a pit full of cars and the best racing so far this year. Drivers battled two- and sometimes three-wide on the high banks, keeping everyone on the edge of their seats. Dylan Haney snagged the lead on the last lap in winning his career-first IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature ahead of Gary Laflin and Jeremy Down. “I ran third pretty much most of the race, finally got to second and had five or six laps to chase the leader down. Then I flatfooted it right through there,” said Haney. “It was probably the happiest I’ve ever been racing.” Noah Williams snagged the lead on lap six of the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature and took the checkers a straightaway ahead of Joe Feyen. Third was Adam Armstrong. “I’ve been racing here for five years in a SportMod and it [Read More]

Maquoketa Speedway hosts 108 race teams

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 20, 2023) – Saturday produced perfect weather for racing at the quarter-mile Maquoketa Speedway. The racers responded with 108 teams taking part in the action and fans responded by coming out in large numbers to enjoy the racing.  The IMCA Sunoco Late Models saw a nice field of 16 drivers take the green for their feature event. Andy Nezworski extended his Maquoketa Speedway winning streak to four dating back to last year’s Jackson County fair race. Nezworski led the feature flag to flag but had he made one minor mistake, Steve Johnson would have been the man to beat. Johnson started back in the 10th position and rode the extreme top side to the front and finished the race less than a car length behind Nezworski. Gary Webb, in his 52nd year of racing, finished a very strong third on Saturday night.  Jeff “Bone” Larson, racing one of the TCE cars, scored back-to-back feature wins in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified division. Larson advanced from the fifth row and led the last [Read More]

McBirnie from 19th to the win at Iowa’s Action Track

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (May 20, 2023) – Jake McBirnie hotshoed it all the way from 19th to win the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature on a beautiful Saturday night for racing at Boone Speedway. Nick Roberts jumped to the lead from his outside front row starting spot when the green flag flew. Izac Mallicoat started third and tucked in behind the leader. A caution flew on lap 13 and on the restart, Todd Shute got around Mallicoat to take over the second spot. A couple laps later, bad luck would bite Shute when he spun in corner one.  As the restart of that caution went green, suddenly it was McBirnie sitting in second place after making his way from the 19th starting spot. A lap later, McBirnie threw a perfectly executed slider in turn two and had the lead with three laps remaining. It was all McBirnie’s race the final circuits as he captured his first win at the track this season. Mallicoat kept second place, third went to Nick Roberts, veteran Russ Dickerson was fourth and [Read More]

Logue delivers opening night sweep at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (May 21, 2023) – Johnathon Logue has won many races in his career, but none had come at Benton County Speedway. That all changed Sunday night when he made his first visit to victory lane at The Bullring.  And then his second. Logue took top honors in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars presented by Christie Door Company and followed that up by winning the main event for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds presented by Beatty Excavating. While both races resulted in victories for Logue, the path he took was different in each. At the drop of the green in the 15-lap Stock Car main, Logue left little doubt he was the man to beat. He quickly distanced himself from the pack to take the checkers by five seconds ahead of his nearest competitors in the caution-free event. Kaden Reynolds made a late push to nip Casey Woken by mere thousandths of a second at the line for second. John Oliver Jr. ran fourth. Logue also led at the on-set of the 20-lap Modified feature, [Read More]

Familiar faces in familiar places at Shawano

By Don Rouse SHAWANO, Wis. (May 20, 2023) – On a gorgeous Saturday evening the newly redesigned victory lane at Shawano Speedway powered by Auto Select saw many familiar faces return for week two. Unfortunately, one familiar face we won’t see but will always be here is Donna Dorn who lost her battle to cancer. Her presence and compassion for her favorite drivers and track will forever be with us.  In the early laps of the feature for the class called Too Tough To Tame, several IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers found out how tough it was. A nasty crash on the backstretch found Anthony Kotula, Kyle Fredrick, Dan Michonski, Brad Nelson, Jordan Barkholtz, Mitch Stankowski, Tyler Welch all tangled in a wreck. As the caution came out and safety crews attended to the drivers involved with no reported injuries to the drivers there sure was a lot of twisted up sheet metal on the cars involved in the crash. As racing resumed, Vern Stedjee held off the hard-charging Tyler Wendt followed by Trent Nolan, Jeremy Christians and [Read More]

Dacotah Speedway checkers to Seidler

By Rebecca Rattei MANDAN, N.D. (May 19, 2023) – Veteran Marlyn Seidler was the winner Friday night in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature at Dacotah Speedway. Scott Gartner led from the pole in the main event and pulled away as the racing was heating up behind him between Travis Tooley, Quentin Kinzley, Mark Dahl and Jason Wolla. Drivers were slicing and dicing for position as the track was wide and racy. A mid-race caution erased Gartner’s large lead over the field. On the restart, Gartner, Kinzley and Dahl raced three-wide for the lead as Tooley, Wolla and Seidler raced three wide for fourth.  Seidler, who started ninth, shuffled into the fourth position and wasted no time tracking down the leaders. Kinzley led briefly before Dahl claimed the top spot. Seidler made it a three-car battle for the lead and motored into first place. Jeremy Keller, who started 11th, followed Seidler through the field and started to reel him in when Seidler started catching lapped traffic. Keller was all over Seidler’s rear bumper and coming [Read More]
