Concelman does best driving getting to track, then gets 100th IMCA Northern SportMod win

AZTEC, N.M. (April 14, 2023) – After he did some of his best driving just to get to the track, Danny Concelman drove to his Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod career 100th feature win. Concelman made his first-ever start in New Mexico Friday night, racing to the landmark victory at Aztec Speedway. The checkers flew after the Commerce City pilot negotiated whiteout travel conditions while en route and going over Wolf Creek Pass, in Colorado’s rugged San Juan Mountains. “It’s pretty cool. This was something I had never thought about doing. I just race to win,” said Concelman, the first driver from Colorado and now the eighth in division history to reach triple digit wins. “I got a call from IMCA last year when we had around 92 or 93 wins. It was like ‘Whoa,’ so I knew we were getting close and then I got a bunch of wins late in the season.” “We refocused this year and after we got weathered out at North Platte last month, we stuck with our plans to race [Read More]

Spahr dominates for PASS win no. 2

By Frank Buhrman  MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (April 14, 2023) – It’s too early to crown Logan Spahr as king of the 2023 River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series season, but it might not be too early to start thinking about it. The Lewisberry racer turned in a dominating performance Friday at Williams Grove Speedway for his second straight IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car win of the new season – and a three-in-a-row record dating back to last October’s Keystone RaceSaver Challenge.  Spahr showed what his car could do when he recovered from an early spin in his heat race to come from the rear and finish second in a very competitive group. Then, starting fourth in the feature, he overtook Timmy Bittner in the third and fourth turns of the first lap for the lead. He never gave it up. The race was slowed by four cautions, none for major incidents. After the first three, Bittner attempted unsuccessfully to overtake the leader, and after the final yellow, Seth Schnoke gave it a try, with the same result. Schnoke had [Read More]

Leavell’s Natural Bridge success spans seasons

By Jim Haines NATURAL BRIDGE, Va. (April 15, 2023) – The first Virginia Sprint Series race of the year showed that Joe Leavell had not lost his touch from his winning ways from last year at Natural Bridge Speedway.  The Waynesboro ace wasted no time going to the front in Friday night’s opener for the IMCA RaceSaver series and was on a rail to take the win. Leavell had been a double winner at Natural Bridge last season, getting the second of those victories in the 2022 tour finale. Daren Bolac and Caleb Harris paced the field to green this time around and Bolac and Harris stayed glued nose to tail until Harris moved to the front, running the higher line. Leavell went around Bolac and began working on Harris early on. The laps clicked away in the caution-free feature and nobody was going to prevent Leavell from going to the front.  The pack stayed in pursuit and kept him in sight but never made a challenge even in traffic as he cruised under the [Read More]

(April 14, 2023) – IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars attended from four different states, vying for the big money US 36 Raceway offered Friday night and the top check went home with Iowan Jake Greenwood.  At the drop of the green flag, Jacob Dye jumped to the front and appeared to have the car to beat before lapped traffic came into play and collected the leader, bringing his night to an end. Greenwood took the lead on the next restart and set a blistering pace, telling the other competitors “Catch me if  you can.”  Stu Snyder mounted a charge but could not match Greenwood as Tyler Drueke also moved toward the front.
