Taylor Triumphs in Southern Oklahoma Speedway Modified Opener

By Ben Deatherage ARDMORE, Okla. (Mar. 15, 2025) — Jeff Taylor outdueled William Gould to win the first Friesen Performance IMCA Modified race of 2025 at Southern Oklahoma Speedway. The 2012 IMCA Super Nationals champion fended off the six-time and defending South Central Region titleholder in a thrilling 20-lap main event at the 3/8-mile oval. Chris Webb led early, but Kyle Robinson quickly took over on lap 2. By lap 6, Gould charged to the front, only to have a caution negate his pass. On the restart, Taylor surged past Robinson in turn three to claim the top spot. As the race unfolded, Taylor built a comfortable lead while Gould and Robinson battled for second. Lapped traffic allowed Gould to close in, but Taylor expertly navigated through the slower cars to stay ahead. A caution with two laps to go set up a dramatic finish. Gould made two valiant attempts to pass — diving low in the first set of corners and again in the final turns — but Taylor held firm to claim his first [Read More]

Sessums wasted no time taking the lead at the drop of the green, with 2015 RaceSaver Nationals winner Carney staying close behind. As the leaders hit lapped traffic just before the halfway mark, Sessums expertly navigated the high side while keeping Carney at bay. Carney eventually made a bold move in turn three, diving to the inside, but Sessums held firm on the cushion and maintained his advantage. A caution soon after reset the field, creating a crucial restart. When racing resumed, Carney bobbled, briefly losing second place to 2019 Southern United Sprint champion Tyler Harris. By Ben Deatherage ABILENE, Texas (Feb. 15, 2025) — John Webb delivered a sensational performance at Abilene Speedway, powering to victory in the IMCA Modified feature during the final night of the 2025 Ice Breaker. The Pauls Valley, Oklahoma driver battled intensely with Friday night winner Toby Herring before seizing the lead in the opening laps and never looking back. By Ben Deatherage ABILENE, Texas (Feb. 14, 2025) — Hobbs, New Mexico’s Toby Herring was untouchable on opening night of the 2025 Abilene Speedway Ice Breaker, claiming a dominant victory in the IMCA Modified main event. The only thing that slowed him down was a single caution near the halfway mark of the feature, which attracted top talent from across the South Central Region. Herring wasted no time taking control from his inside front-row starting position, quickly building a comfortable lead. Consistently hitting his marks and showcasing impressive speed, the leader faced a brief scare on lap 11 when a spinning car brought out the race’s lone caution. On the restart, it was business as usual, as Herring once again pulled away from the competition and cruised to victory. The win marks his first of the season and backs up his Ice Breaker triumph from last February.
