Serbus sprints to Dan Grams Memorial checkers

ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 15, 2023) – Trevor Serbus was again victorious in the Henderson RoadHaus Dan Grams Memorial feature for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars Saturday at Arlington Raceway. Serbus drew the outside front row start and ran up front the total distance to win the race and $1,000.  There was a red flag on the first lap when Michael Stien rolled over in the second set of turns. Bill Johnson got collected as well in and they were both out of the race. Brett Allen got the lucky dog award as he had gotten too high in turn two and fell off the back side of the track, losing several spots in the process, but the red was called and a complete restart occurred. That put Allen starting on the pole next to Serbus. After the first lap, another yellow happened for a spinning car. This time the field started single file and Mike Stien started ahead of Allen. On that restart, Matt Johnson moved through traffic and took the second spot but Serbus was [Read More]

Carter is speedy in IMCA SportMod win at Benton County Urbana Five Memorial

VINTON, Iowa (July 16, 2023) – Brayton Carter brought his ‘A’ game back to Benton County Speedway. As a result, he took $2,000 home to Oskaloosa. Carter reeled in cousin Dylan VanWyk, took the lead just after midway and outran Taylor Kuehl and hard chargers Matt Avila and Tony Olson in winning the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature, the nightcap for Sunday’s ninth annual Urbana Five Memorial special. “We’re just good at endurance-type races like these and we were able to make the most of our opportunities on restarts,” the national points leader said following his 19th IMCA win of the season. “To come here and support this race, and to be able to win it is huge,” he added. “It’s one of our top five races. We’ve been lucky and won it twice (previously in 2020) and both times it was exciting.” Sam Wieben drew the pole start and led the first 11 caution-free circuits. VanWyk took charge, Carter took over second and Wieben took a ride off the track after contact with another [Read More]

Brown, Paris score big wins at CJ Speedway

By Jerry Mackey  COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 14, 2023) – Racing resumed at CJ Speedway, following two consecutive nights of rainouts of regular IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing programs. Rain threatened to spoil Friday night as well but went on as scheduled and Patriot Fireworks provided a very nice display of pyrotechnics before rain moved in.  The headliner of the night was the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event. Brandon Banks debuted his new car and the new car is going to be a very fast machine. Banks shot to the front from his fourth row start and built a comfortable lead only to have ninth starting Jarrett Brown chase down Banks and make what proved to be the winning pass with four laps remaining. Brown has been the man to beat all year and Friday night was no exception. Banks ran second ahead of Kurt Kile.  A win in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods would be very big for Shane Paris, currently fifth in national standings for the division, and that was exactly [Read More]

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 13, 2023) – In its second year running, the Bradie Becker Memorial race on Thursday, July 13 brought a bigger purse for IMCA drivers to compete for at Kossuth County Speedway. Both the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars raced for a $2,000 first place check as an extra $1,000 was added during the evening, as the other three divisions each split an extra $250. Elijah Zevenbergen and Bruce Wickman led the 22-car Stock Car field to the flag-stand to take the green flag as Zevenbergen jumped out front right away before a quick yellow flag. The race resumed as Derek Green became the new leader on the third lap and a red flag appeared one lap later as New Mexico visitor Zane DeVilbiss was upside and four other cars were also involved. Johnson comes up big at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 8, 2023) – Rollovers and crashes made for an interesting night for the safety crew at Arlington Raceway on Saturday. A first lap red flag in the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature saw several cars get together in turn two, which resulted in both national points leader Trevor Serbus and Mike Stien rolling their cars. Dave Becker and Owen Carlson also got taken to the pits. The front row was gone so everyone moved up and that gave an opening for Matt Johnson to take the lead and he was a fourth of a lap ahead of the rest of the field. On lap 11, a yellow came out for Dan Griep who had been running second but clipped a tire, spun and was then done for the night. A couple laps later, the no. 4 of Jeremy Snow was moving to the front when he spun. On that restart, Matt and Bill Johnson were neck and neck but Brandon Buyesse made a last-lap pass and got around Bill to take behind [Read More]

Rick races to a share of history Sunday at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (July 9, 2023) – It took Lukas Rick a little longer than normal to get there, but by night’s end he again stood victorious in victory lane at Benton County Speedway.  With Sunday’s win, the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact driver accomplished something that had only been done once 44 years ago at The Bullring. Colton Stewart was the early leader in the iHeart Radio 12-lapper. Stewart quickly pulled away from the 18-car field, leaving the rest of the pack to battle two and three-wide behind him. A pair of stoppages kept the field tightly bunched, allowing Rick and Devin Jones to work through traffic from mid-pack starts. The pair of pursuers kept pace with Stewart until Rick was able to make the pass for the lead with only a couple laps to go. He held off pressure from Stewart late to score his fifth straight win in weekly racing to open the season. The only other time a driver won the first five points races of a season at the speedway was Dave [Read More]
