PASS to joins All Stars Sunday at Selinsgrove

By Frank Buhrman SELINSGROVE, Pa. (Aug. 18, 2023) – The River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series joins Tony Stewart’s Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions this Sunday at Selinsgrove Speedway to honor the memory of one of the region’s legendary sprint car drivers, Kramer Williamson, with the running of the Kramer Cup. The IMCA RaceSaver sprinters will run qualifying events and a 20-lap feature in support of the All Star’s $10,000-to-win feature. Coming off a super successful weekend that saw 41-car fields at both Lincoln and Bedford Fairgrounds Speedways, PASS will be looking for another strong turnout to turn heads among those on hand for the traveling All Stars. Leading the group will be point leader Logan Spahr, who has won nine of the first 20 PASS features run this year and is looking at the possibility of setting a single-season victory record, set by Logan Wagner in 2013 and tied by Garrett Bard last season, with 12 wins each. Spahr scored a dominating victory Sunday in the Junior Ritchey Tribute at Bedford, but he [Read More]

First Arlington wins of season for Becker, Schumacher

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Aug. 12, 2023) – New cars in victory lane gave the fans some exciting races Saturday for the Northfork Custom Meats Back to School Kids Night. Almost 200 kids received some awesome prizes donated by Arlington Raceway, fans and race teams.  Brad Becker led the entire caution-free IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature from his pole start to win his first main event of the year. Fighting behind him were Jordan Robinson, Taylor Manderfield and Cory Probst. The three cars exchanged positions throughout the race but on the white flag lap, Probst got around Manderfield to take second. Gary Schumacher led the distance as he won his first Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature of the year.  Cars were four-wide around the track and got together causing a yellow on lap seven, which sent Justin Dose to the pits. With only one lap remaining, Schumacher pulled off the win with Alan Lahr and David Marshall right behind. Gary Schumacher led the distance Saturday in earning his first Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature win of the [Read More]

Thornton takes Bald Tire Bash checkers at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (Aug. 13, 2023) – Dylan Thornton raced the top groove to a big payday in Sunday’s Bald Tire Bash at Benton County Speedway. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car special, which required a tread depth of no greater than 5/32 of an inch on any tire, featured a 50-lap headliner at The Bullring that resulted in a $2,500 winner’s share for the Keystone driver. From a row two start, Thornton battled pole-sitter Leah Wroten early for the top spot in the Christie Door Company main event. Working the top side of the fast, smooth quarter-mile, Thornton assumed command just prior to a lap five caution. He maintained the point on the restart and built a five-plus second advantage by the time the race was slowed again just past midway. As Thornton led, Kyle Olson, Kaden Reynolds, Tom Berry Jr. and Dallon Murty pursued. Murty made his way into second before a stoppage that put him on Thornton’s rear bumper for a late restart. While pressuring Thornton with just two laps to go, Murty spun [Read More]

Lincoln, Bedford this Saturday and Sunday for PASS

By Frank Buhrman ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. (Aug. 11, 2023) – Two tracks with long but very different histories of River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series competition make their only 2023 appearances on the schedule this weekend. Lincoln Speedway will be the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car teams’ destination Saturday night, and on Sunday night the action moves west to Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway, for a co-sanctioned event with the Laurel Highlands Sprint Series.  Both tracks hosted their first PASS race 20 years ago. Lincoln will run exactly 20 years and five weeks after its first appearance, and Bedford will host the sprinters two days shy of exactly 20 years since the first show. It needs to be noted, however, that Lincoln hosted the Virginia Sprint Series, the oldest of all RaceSaver regional groups, before its first PASS race. In the years since, Lincoln has been a regular on the PASS schedule, typically with either one or two races. Overall, this will be the 30th PASS race at the Pidgeon Hills track, and the victories have been well spread [Read More]

Shatzer Streaks to hometown Hub City Win

By Jim Haines HAGERSTOWN, Md. (Aug. 5, 2023) – Hometown driver Dylan Shatzer streaked to heat and feature wins in the Saturday night IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car show at Hagerstown Speedway. Twenty-four cars took to the Hub City oval in the Laurel Highlands Sprint Series and Virginia Sprint Series co-sanctioned event. Shatzer and Ryan Lynn paced the field to green with Shatzer low and Lynn high, but before the field could even settle down, Lynn coasted to a stop with mechanical issues. On the restart, Shatzer took off with Reed Thompson and Stevie Kenawell close behind. Shatzer was trying to run away as Thompson and Kenawell were keeping in touch, but even as traffic came in to play the track was wide with many groves it wouldn’t hold up Shatzer. It all went wrong for Kenawell as he slid to a stop with a few laps to go, giving Thompson one more shot at the win. On the green, Shatzer took off clean and Thompson stayed close, but not close enough to mount a charge [Read More]

IMCA features go 3-4-5 wide at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Aug. 5, 2023) – The Sibley County Fair races provided three- and four- and even five-wide racing throughout the night in all divisions for the fans to enjoy Saturday at Arlington Raceway. The first feature saw Ben Davis lead the first four laps of the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock main but coming out of turn four he lost control of his car and allowed Cory Probst to take the lead from his 10th place start. Davis and Taylor Manderfield then had a good battle but Davis slid up and Manderfield was able to gain a position. On the next lap, Dan Probst was able to glide by both of those cars to take second behind son Cory. In the end, Cory Probst wins another feature with his dad taking second and Manderfield third. The Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts saw five-wide racing for the first lap until the field spread out and then again after a restart. Kevin Bolte then took the lead and led the rest of the way to win his first feature. [Read More]

RaceSaver win at Eagle by Grossenbacher is a classic

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (Aug. 5, 2023) – The final race of the night proved to be a classic on Rock ‘n Roll Classic Night Saturday at Eagle Raceway. Trevor Grossenbacher raced from 17th to first in scoring his first IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature win of the season. Grossenbacher was on a mission as he passed Jake Galusha for second with six laps to go. There were just two laps left when Josh Riggins spun out in turn two, setting up a  battle to the finish between Grossenbacher and Tyler Drueke. Grossenbacher used a huge slider in turns three and four on the restart to grab the lead, then held on for the win with Drueke second and Adam Gullion third. “Everybody was kind of two-wide at the start and I couldn’t get my momentum going. Then we had a yellow and was able to get up top to where I wanted to be. I started moving forward and found the bottom in three and four,” he said. “The yellows kind of fell my way [Read More]

By Frank Buhrman SELINSGROVE, Pa. (July 29, 2023) – Drew Young’s breakout season kicked up another notch Saturday night when the Beaver Springs driver took his second career victory in the River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series feature at Selinsgrove Speedway. Friday night’s Big Diamond winner Zach Rhodes started and finished third, followed by Kenny Heffner and Austin Reed. Young had started on the pole and led the field into turn one on the opening lap, only to have Dodson use the high side to assume the lead coming off turn two. Dodson led nine laps before Young slipped past him on the inside and grabbed the lead for good. It was the second career win for Young, who had no prior racing experience and is in his third full season with PASS.
