Pfeifer is pfirst to IMCA SporMod checkers at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (July 15, 2023) – Josh Pfeifer had a first-ever Eagle Raceway feature win to celebrate Saturday night. The St. Paul speedster took the lead on lap four and outran Trevor Noonan and Noah Williams to the Friesen performance IMCA Northern SportMod checkers. “This was my first win here at Eagle. Several years ago, I was close here. I’ve kind of just faded out of racing the past few years and haven’t raced much,” he said. “We came out last week and I debated whether to come tonight or not. I just had a different kind of feeling all week and usually when you get that different kind of feeling and you’re getting in a race car that’s a good sign.” “Right at the beginning I slipped back a few spots and I’m like ‘Man, I’ve got to change my driving style a little bit or it’s just going to keep being more of the same’. So, I tried slowing up my entry and tried sneaking around the bottom a little [Read More]

Heffner joins list of 2023 PASS winners

By Frank Buhrman PORT ROYAL, Pa. (July 15, 2023) – Kenny Heffner came out on top of a fierce, three-way battle for the lead Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway, re-taking the top spot from Zach Rhodes with two laps to go to win the 20-lap feature for the River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series. Veteran Roger Irvine, who led early in the race and was the other racer in the fight for victory, came home third. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car barnburner had a story for each of the drivers seeking the win. For Heffner, the victory was his career fourth and third at Port Royal, but his first since joining with former PASS regular Cale Reigle as car owner. Rhodes was seeking his first-ever PASS victory, although he won a Virginia Sprint Series feature earlier this year at Winchester, Va. Irvine has been a PASS racer since 2004, skipping a couple of years along the way and driving only once or twice in others, and has four career wins, but the last was [Read More]

Serbus sprints to Dan Grams Memorial checkers

ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 15, 2023) – Trevor Serbus was again victorious in the Henderson RoadHaus Dan Grams Memorial feature for IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars Saturday at Arlington Raceway. Serbus drew the outside front row start and ran up front the total distance to win the race and $1,000.  There was a red flag on the first lap when Michael Stien rolled over in the second set of turns. Bill Johnson got collected as well in and they were both out of the race. Brett Allen got the lucky dog award as he had gotten too high in turn two and fell off the back side of the track, losing several spots in the process, but the red was called and a complete restart occurred. That put Allen starting on the pole next to Serbus. After the first lap, another yellow happened for a spinning car. This time the field started single file and Mike Stien started ahead of Allen. On that restart, Matt Johnson moved through traffic and took the second spot but Serbus was [Read More]

Harris is first to repeat 2023 Virginia Sprint Series checkers

SHENANDOAH, Va. (July 15, 2023) – The Virginia Sprint Series got its first repeat winner of the season Saturday night as Jerald Harris streaked to a second straight IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car victory as black clouds rolled toward Shenandoah Speedway. Also the feature winner two weeks ago at Langley Speedway, Harris prepped for the main event by topping his heat race then, with inclement weather on the way, helped Daren Bolac leading the main event field to green. Harris stayed a little high and swept around Bolac to take the top spot as Aaron Leach made his way to third. Laps flew by on the pavement as Harris stayed smooth with tire management a priority. Bolac headed to the pits as Matt Mullins made his way to third with Robert Tyler making it to fourth. The caution-free event helped Harris maintain his smooth pace. He had the field closing but the challengers ran out of time. Harris topped the field and beat the rain to the checkered flag. Leach and Mullins were next across the [Read More]

Johnson comes up big at Arlington

ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 8, 2023) – Rollovers and crashes made for an interesting night for the safety crew at Arlington Raceway on Saturday. A first lap red flag in the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature saw several cars get together in turn two, which resulted in both national points leader Trevor Serbus and Mike Stien rolling their cars. Dave Becker and Owen Carlson also got taken to the pits. The front row was gone so everyone moved up and that gave an opening for Matt Johnson to take the lead and he was a fourth of a lap ahead of the rest of the field. On lap 11, a yellow came out for Dan Griep who had been running second but clipped a tire, spun and was then done for the night. A couple laps later, the no. 4 of Jeremy Snow was moving to the front when he spun. On that restart, Matt and Bill Johnson were neck and neck but Brandon Buyesse made a last-lap pass and got around Bill to take behind [Read More]

Reed repeats PASS win at Selinsgrove

By Frank Buhrman SELINSGROVE, Pa. (July 8, 2023) – Austin Reed squeezed past Zach Rhodes on the outside after a brief but furious battle for the lead and went on to win the 20-lap River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series feature Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway. It was the second straight win at the Snyder County oval for the veteran from Etters, who finished second in PASS points last season, and it came on a night that saw misfortune strike several front-runners, while those with better luck entertained the fans with some great on-track action. Reed claimed a victory margin of 1.77 seconds at the checkers. Rhodes, who drew the pole position after winning his heat race, led the first 17 laps and nearly scored his first career PASS win – he won an IMCA RaceSaver feature earlier this year with the Virginia Sprint Series at Winchester, Va. He hung on for second place ahead of a hard-charging Doug Dodson, who took third from Kruz Kepner on the final lap after starting ninth. Thirteenth starting [Read More]

Richards records first win on Disco Fever Night at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (July 8, 2023) – A third generation driver became a first time Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod on Disco Fever Night at Eagle Raceway. Mason Richards kept Adam Armstrong in check in the Saturday show, and followed father Terry and grandfather Terry Sr. onto the roll of feature winners at the famed Nebraska speed plant. “It’s definitely special. Both my dad and grandfather have won here at Eagle, so being the third generation to win here just makes it all the more special, especially in my rookie year here. I couldn’t be happier,” he said. Mike Densberger won for the first time this season at Eagle in the IMCA Modifieds, leading from lap two to the checkers. “It’s been a long time. I don’t think I got a win out here last year so the year that I won the championship (2021) was the last time I won out here,” he said. “The car was really good all night. We tweaked something before the races even started because we saw [Read More]
