Brown, Paris score big wins at CJ Speedway

By Jerry Mackey  COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 14, 2023) – Racing resumed at CJ Speedway, following two consecutive nights of rainouts of regular IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing programs. Rain threatened to spoil Friday night as well but went on as scheduled and Patriot Fireworks provided a very nice display of pyrotechnics before rain moved in.  The headliner of the night was the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main event. Brandon Banks debuted his new car and the new car is going to be a very fast machine. Banks shot to the front from his fourth row start and built a comfortable lead only to have ninth starting Jarrett Brown chase down Banks and make what proved to be the winning pass with four laps remaining. Brown has been the man to beat all year and Friday night was no exception. Banks ran second ahead of Kurt Kile.  A win in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods would be very big for Shane Paris, currently fifth in national standings for the division, and that was exactly [Read More]

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 14, 2023) – Lakewood, Colo., driver Tripp Gaylord was among the drivers earning season-first IMCA feature wins Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. Last week’s races were rained out and Friday the track was dodging threats of rain, but the show went on as scheduled with 134 cars checking in for a full night of racing action. Tripp Gaylord, who is calling Iowa home for the summer, started 10th in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified main and ran down then-leader Johnathon Logue by lap six with Todd Shute joining in the fight to make it a three-way battle for the lead. Gaylord managed to take over the top spot at lap 14 and then kept it the rest of the way to the flying checkers. Shute started seventh and took second, early leader Jimmy was third, Logue finished fourth and Izac Mallicoat was fifth.   Mitchell Bunch led the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts flag-to-flag on his way to the checkers.  Kolby Sabin chased Bunch for most of the race but had to be [Read More]

Siefert scores $1,000 IMCA Stock Car payday at Outagamie

By Edward Anschutz SEYMOUR, Wis. (July 14, 2023) – Jared Siefert scored big Friday night, winning the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature and $1,000 at Outagamie Speedway. Jeff Kropp paced the opening laps before coming under attack by former IMCA Modified national champion Siefert, who took his Sniper Speed Chassis to the top groove and raced around Kropp for the lead on lap four. Tyler Wilson came to call, breaking into the runner-up position. Wilson began to dog Siefert just past the midway point. A caution on 12 bunched the field as Siefert led. That’s when it began to rain, forcing officials to cancel the remainder of the program. Siefert, already guaranteed a starting spot in the B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational for his $5,000 win at the Jackson Motorplex Stock Car Challenge in May, scored a clean sweep on the night and a pocket full of cash for his efforts. Wilson had to settle second, Kropp was third and Rod Snellenberger completed the top four.   Colton See went to victory lane for the first time in [Read More]

Shryock, Mills win big at Bradie Becker Memorial

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 13, 2023) – In its second year running, the Bradie Becker Memorial race on Thursday, July 13 brought a bigger purse for IMCA drivers to compete for at Kossuth County Speedway. Both the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars raced for a $2,000 first place check as an extra $1,000 was added during the evening, as the other three divisions each split an extra $250. Elijah Zevenbergen and Bruce Wickman led the 22-car Stock Car field to the flag-stand to take the green flag as Zevenbergen jumped out front right away before a quick yellow flag. The race resumed as Derek Green became the new leader on the third lap and a red flag appeared one lap later as New Mexico visitor Zane DeVilbiss was upside and four other cars were also involved. Green was the leader at the halfway point of the 20-lap feature followed by Kelly Shryock, Zevenbergen, Kevin Opheim and Wickman as Shryock slowly closed the big lead Green had built. MANDAN, N.D. (July 13, 2023) – Travis Hagen and Brendon LaBatte won first-ever IMCA.TV Dakota Tour features Thursday at Dacotah Speedway. Tim Ward and Rob VanMil, meanwhile, wrapped up tour titles during the aptly billed Championship Night show in Mandan. Hagen led the last 26 of 30 Friesen Performance IMCA Modified laps, earning $2,000. And LaBatte came out on top of what might have been the best race of the 34th annual tour, regaining the lead on the last lap and beating Dan Mackenthun to the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers by a tenth of a second. That win was good for $1,000 and put LaBatte on the B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational eligible list. Ninety-one cars representing 16 states and two Canadian provinces saw action in the finale for the tour, title sponsored and broadcast by IMCA.TV. Runner-up in both the first two shows of the week, Hagen became the fifth different winner in as many Modified tour features at the end of a race that ended with a 28-lap green flag run. Two of the best in the west are IMCA.TV Dakota Tour winners at Southwest

DICKINSON, N.D. (July 12, 2023) – Drivers from, or with close ties to the West Coast have enjoyed their share of success and then some over the course of recent IMCA.TV Dakota Classic Tours. That trend continued Wednesday night at Dickinson, when Californian Jerry Flippo and Arizonan Zachary Madrid made trips to Southwest Speedway’s victory lane. Flippo caught Drew Janssen for the lead following a restart at midway then led to the end of the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified 30-lapper, dogged to the $2,000 checkers  by Kyle Strickler. 2021 tour champion Madrid, meanwhile, led all but the first circuit in the 25-lap, IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main, keeping the handle after inadvertent contact with second running and two-time tour winner Rob VanMil late in their battle for a $1,000 payday. Flippo’s win was his tour career first and second since returning to IMCA action in the Midwest in early May. He’d started fifth and got the best of a four-car battle for second before the fateful lap 15 restart. Janssen and Tanner Black both ran in [Read More]
