Expanded Cocopah Speedway IMCA Winter Nationals set for mid-February

SOMERTON, Ariz. – Continuing with the theme of building on already successful events, Cocopah Speedway has begun preparations for the third annual IMCA Winter Nationals, coming to the Somerton, Ariz., oval for two consecutive weekends in mid-February. The event annually features a big field of the best IMCA racers from across the country and the 2014 IMCA Winter Nationals at Cocopah grows to a total of four nights of racing, up from three nights last year. Race dates are Friday and Saturday, Feb. 7 and 8, and Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14 and 15. 25th annual Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour dates announced

MANDAN, N.D. – The 25th annual Kupper Chevrolet Dakota Classic Tour dates and locations have been announced for 2014. IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars will be on the program at all six tracks during the July 6-11 tour in North Dakota and Saskatchewan. Another record pay­out is in the works, with each Modified feature winner earning $1,700 and each Stock Car winner pocketing $800. Modified features are 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events. Home region points will be awarded in both divisions. Nodak Speedway will host the tour opener on Sunday, July 6. On Monday, July 7, the tour heads north of the border to Estevan Motor Speedway. Williston Basin Speedway will host night three of the tour on Tuesday, July 8. On Wednesday, July 9, the series heads to Southwest Speedway in Dickinson. Ice Breaker at Abilene starts season for 4 IMCA divisions

ABILENE, Texas – Abilene Speedway opens the 2014 race season with its traditional Ice Breaker special, as four IMCA sanctioned divisions take to the track Friday through Sunday, Feb. 21-23. Feature events are on the program each night for the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Top prize for Modifieds each night is $700. SportMods run for $600 to win, Stock Cars for $400 to win and Hobby Stocks for $250. All applicable IMCA points, including track points, will be awarded for each draw/redraw show. Home region points will be awarded to Modified, Stock and Hobby drivers; Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods can race but not for points. Deery Series returns to Denison for 2014 season opener

VINTON, Iowa – An absence of 20 years comes to an end when the 2014 Deery Brothers Summer Series opens at Crawford County Speedway. The April 5 show at Denison is the first of 19 dates on the schedule for the 28th annual IMCA Late Model tour. The series also concludes much shorter hiatuses with return visits to Jackson County Speedway in Maquoketa on April 19 and Marshalltown Speedway on June 24. “There are three tracks that have not been part of the series for a year or two or 20 and the last time we were in Denison it was a half-mile, so that will be new,” Tour Director Kevin Yoder said. “Otherwise the schedule looks relatively the same as last year. IMCA and XSAN represented at PRI show

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The largest sanctioning body in dirt track racing will be represented at the Performance Racing Industry show Dec. 12-14 in Indianapolis, Ind. IMCA, along with broadcasting partner XSAN, will be at booth number 3709, located right inside the front door of the Indiana Convention Center and beside the Speedway Motors booth. More than 1,200 companies will have displays at PRI, the largest trade show in the motorsports industry. From chassis builders to tire manufacturers to parts suppliers, every aspect of motorsports is repre­sented at PRI. Attendees come from all levels of the sport and from around the world.

Thunderhill Raceway drivers’ meeting is Friday, Dec. 13

By Edward Anschutz STURGEON BAY, Wis. – Thunderhill Raceway will hold a drivers’ meeting on Friday, Dec, 13 at The Draft Haus Sports Bar beginning at 7 p.m. Promoter Woody Wodack will have Sonny’s Pizza on hand along with snacks. We are looking for everyone’s input as we plan to make 2014 the best season yet. Lots of big news regarding several track improvements and possible contingencies. We ask pit spots be paid before or at the meeting. Any pit stalls that remain unpaid or open will then go to a lottery of drivers who want to purchase them. Champions, top rookies honored at Antioch banquet

ANTIOCH, Calif. (Nov. 23) – Driver Troy Foulger was honored for an unprecedented fourth straight championship at the 2013 Antioch Speedway awards banquet. Champions and rookies of the year in the speedway’s weekly divisions were applauded at the Contra Costa Fairgrounds on Saturday night (11/23). Foulger, 22, who drove a car owned by Billy Bowers, scored five wins and 13 top five finishes in the highly competitive IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified division. He heads to Lincoln, Neb., this weekend to be honored by the organization. Foulger praised the work of Bowers and his crew. “They worked on the cars every night of the week, all season long,” said Foulger. “We sometimes raced both cars, back to back, and it isn’t easy to maintain and race two cars. Wendt earns LVMS Duel Best Appearing Car honors

By Ryan Clark WILLISTON, N.D. – Although he didn’t experience much success on the track, Darin Wendt left the Duel In The Desert with some extra green in his pocket. The third-year IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified driver from Williston, N.D., won Best Appearing Car honors in the Las Vegas-themed contest at the dirt track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, taking home the $500 top prize in the process. In addition to the cash courtesy of XSAN, Wendt walked away with a trophy and new RACEceiver. Wells Design of Ogallala, Neb., also paid for his 2014 Modified membership license. Wendt spent just 22 nights behind the wheel of his race car this season prior to his trip to Las Vegas. IMCA to honor 40 tracks with sanction awards at national banquet

LINCOLN, Neb. – Forty tracks will be honored with sanction awards during the national IMCA banquet on Saturday, Nov. 30 in Lincoln, Neb. Marshalltown Speedway will be recognized with a 30 consecutive year award for Stock Cars. Tracks receiving 25 consecutive year plaques are Arlington Raceway for Modifieds, Sprint Cars and Stock Cars; the Iowa State Fairgrounds Speedway and Shawano Speedway for Modifieds; and Jackson Speedway for Stock Cars. Awards for sanctioning 20 consecutive seasons go to Abilene Speedway, Beatrice Speedway, Dawson County Raceway and U.S. 30 Speedway for Modifieds and Independence Motor Speedway and Luxemburg Speedway for Stock Cars. Aztec Speedway and Salina Speedway receive plaques for 20 total years of sanctioning their Modifieds with IMCA.
