Towns tops Sunday field at Willamette for first Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout win

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (Aug. 8) – The third night at Willamette Speedway was the Sunday night charm for Curtis Towns. Towns topped the third event in as many nights to start the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout, earning $1,000 and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility. He’d taken advantage of his inside front row starting position in the 40-lap feature, hoping to bounce back after failing to make the feature on Friday night. Towns set a rapid pace but was eventually caught once he entered traffic. Collen Winebarger put the pass on Towns on lap 14. Dominant the previous evening and looking to make it two victories in a row, the new leader had no real issues whether on an open race track or in traffic. Winebarger dominates Wild West Shootout Round 2 for IMCA Modifieds at Willamette

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (Aug. 7) – Collen Winebarger proved the master of lapped traffic on night two of the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout at Willamette Speedway on Saturday. When the action got started for the 40-lap IMCA Modified main event, Winebarger seized control of the top spot on the first lap. The race turned out to be one based on stamina as the lone caution was seen on lap seven. This presented heavy lapped traffic for the leaders to deal with and made things interesting from time to time. Winebarger was briefly bottled up in traffic but managed to make a pivotal move to get through the tail end of the lead lap cars, then motored to win his ninth career Wild West Shootout event and record-setting fifth checkers at Lebanon. Williamson wins opening night of Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout at Willamette

(Aug. 6) – Four-time series champion Jesse Williamson was the winner Friday night as the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout returned for the first time since June 29, 2019. The site of that last appearance was at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon. That would be the venue to host the opening leg of the 2021 schedule. At the beginning of the 40-lap, $1,000 to win main event, Williamson took the top place position on the opening start. After that, the field underwent a long twenty-three-lap green flag run, bringing some traffic into play. Williamson was briefly harassed by some contenders but managed to carve his way through lapped traffic. Three stoppages took out any further contact with the back of the field and put more emphasis on the restarts. Williamson was challenged briefly by Collen Winebarger. $50,000 to win World IMCA Stock Car Championship at Batesville Oct. 13-16

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The top-paying IMCA Sunoco Stock Car event in the world takes The Class Too Tough To Tame to Batesville Motor Speedway for the $50,000 to win World IMCA Stock Car Championship Oct. 13-16. Presented by IMCA-TV, the inaugural event will start 30 cars and boasts a main event purse of $125,000 with $15,000 paid to the runner-up, $10,000 for third, $5,000 for fourth, $3,000 for fifth and a minimum of $1,500 to start. The top two drivers from each of 15 heat races transfer to nightly ‘A’ features Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with the top nine from that race advancing to the Saturday main event. Dream race for DeVilbiss ends with trophy, $10,000 IMCA Modified Harris Clash payday

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (Aug. 3) – Zane DeVilbiss had his eye on the custom trophies made for the 30th annual Harris Clash before the first green flag flew Tuesday night. After taking the final checkers of the night, DeVilbiss left Deer Creek Speedway with that hardware and a career-best $10,000 payday after leading all 30 laps of an IMCA Modified main event that played out in front of a packed grandstand. “This is the breakthrough we were looking for on this little tour,” said DeVilbiss, from Farmington, N.M. “We’ve had a good car the last few weeks and it’s awesome to be here.” “I saw all those cool trophies Chad (Wehrs) was building and said ‘Man, I’d better get out there and try to win one of those,’” he added. SPENCER, Iowa (Aug. 2) – A driver from Arizona has found a new home in victory lane at Clay County Fair Speedway. Jake O’Neil drew the pole for Monday night’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event and led all 40 laps of a fast-paced IMCA Speedweek opening event, collecting $5,000 and a starting spot in the upcoming B & B Chassis All-Star Invitational. “It helped starting on the front row,” said O’Neil, from Tucson and also the winner of last week’s Hunting With Heroes Salute to Veterans feature at Spencer. “I wasn’t sure where to be on the race track. Wild West Modified Shootout returns, IMCA.TV to broadcast Aug. 6-14 series

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. – After not being on the schedule in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Wild West IMCA Modified Shootout is back. Eight races will be run in nights at four race tracks in the Pacific Northwest. Not only will IMCA Modifieds be in attendance but the Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern Sport Mods will accompany the tour in the first seven legs. Modified feature winners earn $1,000 and become eligible to qualify for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Lebanon’s Willamette Speedway will kick the whole party off on Friday, Aug. 6 and the tour will remain there for three straight nights. Monday, Aug. 9, and Tuesday, Aug. 10 will be reserved for Cottage Grove Speedway. 30th Harris Clash marks milestone with $10,000 IMCA Modified top prize

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. – Thirty years ago, Bob Harris didn’t think the IMCA Harris Clash would ever get this big. As late as a couple weeks ago, the promoter of IMCA’s longest-running one-day special never thought it would pay this big, either. More than 110 IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods are already pre-registered for the 30th annual Clash Tuesday, Aug. 3 at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn. Harris had the pleasure of making the announcement late last week that the Modifieds would be racing for $10,000 to win. Wehrs Machine and Racing Products, along with Aero Race Wheels, AFCO, Close Racing, Performance Bodies and Strange Oval, all chipped to double what had been the winner’s original share of the purse. Jesse Williamson Wins 2021 Shipwreck Beads Northwest Modified Nationals

Jesse Williamson was better than that in the Saturday Shipwreck Beads IMCA Modified Nationals main event at Grays Harbor Raceway. Williamson worked his way up from ninth starting and led the last 15 circuits of the 40-lapper headliner at Elma, earning $2,500 and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility. “I started working the top line to the middle and kind of passed everybody on top,” said Williamson, also the 2009 Shipwreck Beads winner. “It feels pretty good to have this kind of success with a new car (a recently built SDMF Chassis).
