Berry, Murty, Logue, Richards all record Marshalltown wins

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Aug. 21) – Marshalltown Speedway was back in action Friday night, missing only one week of racing due to the area’s devastating derecho.  The lights taken down during the storm were replaced with two BOSS LTG Stadium Light Towers and the show went on with KMJ Performance Free Grandstand Night. Tom Berry put on another dominating performance, winning for the eighth time this season in the IMCA Modifieds. Dallon Murty is mastering the High Banks in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, taking his third trip to victory lane.  Johnathon Logue took the checkers for the third race in a row in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Braden Richards went back to the winner’s circle in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Logue took the easy win in the 18-lap feature event for Northern SportMods.  He had to fight past Dylan Van Wyk, Austin Schrage, and Brayton Carter, who were doing battle in front him.  He got the job done at lap six and from there on never looked back, finishing [Read More]

Mroczkowski edges Van Straten for Outagamie checkers

By Edward Anschutz  SEYMOUR, Wis. (Aug. 21) – Josh Mroczkowski took the lead with five laps remaining and went on to win the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature by inches over Travis Van Straten at Outagamie Speedway Friday night. Tyler Wendt raced from the outside pole to the lead on the opening lap. Mroczkowski came to call just past the midway point to take the lead away from Wendt down low. The duo traded the lead over the next few laps with Mroczkowski racing back to the top spot on lap 15. Mroczkowski moved to the upper groove, which allowed Logan Leary and Van Straten to race three-wide under the leader. As the checkers flew it was a two-horse race of Van Straten and Mroczkowski racing to the finish line as the pair came across the stripe in a visual dead heat. Transponder scoring gave the victory to Mroczkowski by a mere .049 seconds. Wendt had his best run of the year to place third. In IMCA Modified action it was Chase Parker taking command of the [Read More]

Richards sails to 141 Captain of the Creek checkers

FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (Aug. 20) – The win was great.  His daughter’s reaction to finding the presentation check propped up against her bedroom door the next morning was even better. Kenny Richards started 13th, took the lead following back-to-back restarts just past midway and then outran a field of Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod heavy hitters in taking the $5,000 Captain of the Creek checkers Thursday at 141 Speedway. The big win came in a Jack Jones Dump Bar and Grill ride Richards hadn’t seen before qualifying started the night before. Jones and brother Jerry, the Two Old Guys Race Team, adjusted the pedals and steering wheel and Richards took it from there.  “I had my fingers crossed we would even make it in. Then I hoped for a top 10. I wanted the bottom two feet (of the track) and we hit that like 49 of the 50 laps,” he said. “I knew when we were in the top 10 that we had a shot at the top five.” Colby Fett led the first 21 [Read More]
