Nordyke paces Dodge City Prelude

(Aug. 15) – Monty Nordyke scored his first Dodge City Raceway Park win in the Prelude to the IMCA SportMod Mayhem while Dakota Sproul continued his recent run of IMCA Modified supremacy by racing to his third consecutive DCRP triumph Saturday night. In the 20-lap Prelude to next weekend’s SportMod Mayhem, Nordyke capitalized on Luke Stallbaumer’s mechanical woes and then held off son Brendyn over the closing rounds for his first DCRP score. Nordyke became the race’s fourth different leader when he battled past Bart Baker on a lap 14 restart that followed a caution for Stallbaumer’s disabled mount on the backstretch. After Dan Rogers led the opening round, Stallbaumer had battled past Baker for the point on the eighth circuit only to suffer race-ending driveline issues seven laps shy of the checkered flag. McBirnie posts first IMCA Modified victory at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (Aug. 15) – The IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s are in sight, and the drivers are already prepping for the 38th annual event at Boone Speedway as 228 cars packed the pits on Saturday night that included an IMCA Sport Compact shakedown along with all of the regular divisions. Jake McBirnie grabbed the lead from Joel Bushore with a handful of laps in the books in the 20-lap main event for IMCA Modifieds. Just a lap later, it was 12th place starter Joel Rust who was challenging him for the lead. The two swapped the top spot back and forth for several laps until Rust suddenly pulled into the infield with mechanical issues. McBirnie then pulled away from the field and took his career-first win in the division well ahead of second place Nick Meyer. Bushore took third. DeVolder, Hogge crowned at Bakersfield, Jernagan takes Speedweek SportMod title

(Aug. 15) – Shane DeVolder won the battle, Bobby Hogge IV won the war and Garrett Jernagan won both on the final night of California IMCA Speedweek presented by Hoppes Motorsports. DeVolder won the IMCA Modified feature at Bakersfield Speedway, earning $1,000 and a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth, while runner-up Hogge took the overall Modified tour title. Jernagan clinched the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod crown with his fifth $750 victory of the week. DeVolder regained the lead from Alyssa Smith before a long green flag run got him into lapped traffic. Three cautions slowed the final 10 circuits but neither Hogge or Ryan Daves had anything for the leader and finished in that order behind him. Jim Pettit II and Jerry Flippo completed the top five. IMCA Modifieds chasing $1,500 check at Murray County special

SLAYTON, Minn. – A $1,500 to win, 2021 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event gets top billing at Murray County Speedway’s Aug. 21 Swede Shootout/Muecke Memorial special. There is no entry fee and Modifieds run for IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Side Biter Chassis North Central Region and KMJ Performance Minnesota State points, but not track points, in their draw/redraw show. Completing the Friday night program are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts with national, regional, state and track points on the line. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 6 p.m. Hot laps are at 7:15 p.m. with racing to follow. Grandstand admission is $12 for adults and free for kids 8 and under. Pit passes are $30.

Heckman hauls Hanford IMCA Modified mail, Speedweek SportMod checkers fly for Curran

(Aug. 14) – Round five of the California Modified Speedweek presented by Hoppes took the tour to Keller Auto Speedway at Kings Fairgrounds, where Kyle Heckman prevailed over a field of 64 IMCA Modified entries and Brent Curran collected his first Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod victory. The Modified feature ran non-stop and Heckman took control of race lead from the get-go, pulling away from the rest of the pack and never looking back. Heckman handled lapped traffic perfectly, earning $1,000 and a spot on the 2021 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot while becoming the fifth different winner in as many Speedweek events. Race For Trace is Tuesday at Fairmont

FAIRMONT, Minn. – IMCA drivers Race For Trace next Tuesday, Aug. 18 at Fairmont Raceway. The midweek show boasts a $25,000-plus purse but more importantly raises funds to help pay medical costs for car owner and sponsor Trace Iverson. Three dollars from each admission ticket sold will be donated and the 15 drivers Iverson helps sponsor will pass their helmets in the grandstand and pit area. Items to be auctioned include donated door panels while the raffle includes a wheel autographed by Richard Petty. Tuesday’s IMCA Modified feature pays $2,020 to win and is a 2021 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying event, while IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars run for $2,000 to win. Sawyer tops IMCA Modified thriller at Merced, Jernagan posts fourth straight Speedweek win

By Stephanie Deatherage MERCED, Calif. (Aug. 13) – In a word, the IMCA Modified feature in the fourth installment of California IMCA Speedweek presented by Hoppes Motorsports was a thriller. Robby Sawyer collected the $1,000 checkers and 2021 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth by all of half a car length Thursday at Merced Speedway. Sawyer passed Justin Dunn for the front spot on lap eight, during a lengthy green-flag run. A lap 23 caution brought about the only stoppage of the contest and despite a constant barrage of challenges, Sawyer held on by a slim margin to become the fourth different Modified winner in as many Speedweek races thus far. Braaksma shines at Hancock County’s Night of 1,000 Stars

BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 13) – Another big-time event brought out the best in Ethan Braaksma. Braaksma ran down Richie Gustin in lapped traffic to regain the lead late in Hancock County Speedway’s Thursday Night of 1,000 Stars special, then stayed in front to the $3,000 IMCA Modified checkers. Along with a career-best payday, Braaksma earned a spot on the 2021 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. “So many drivers can win these races. The competition is unbelievable,” said Braaksma, already a three-time Speed Shift TV Dirt Knights Tour winner this season. “It’s awesome to be able to come to these big shows and race up front with these guys.” Gustin, who’d won his ‘B’ feature and started the main event from 16th, ended in second. $250 Sunoco bonus moves to Shelby County Speedway this Saturday night

VINTON, Iowa – The payday gets even better this week for the IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature winner at Shelby County Speedway. As part of a regular points night of racing, the August 15 IMCA Late Model winner pockets an extra $250 courtesy of Sunoco Race Fuels. Sunoco bonuses are being presented at IMCA Late Model sanctioned weekly tracks this year. Drivers are eligible for only one bonus during the 2020 racing season. If the feature winner is a previous Sunoco winner, the bonus moves to the next eligible position. 2020 winners have been Jeff Aikey at Independence Motor Speedway, Matt Ryan at 34 Raceway, Joel Callahan at Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway, Eric Pollard at 300 Raceway, Justin Kay at Davenport Speedway and Dalton Simonsen at Marshalltown Speedway.
