Nodak show sees Thornton, Zevenbergen win again

MINOT, N.D. (July 12) – The battle was for second place on night three of the Dakota Classic Modified Tour. Ricky Thornton Jr. started on the pole and stayed in front every time around the Nodak Speedway oval, earning $2,400 for his latest IMCA Modified tour checkers. He was catching up with the back of the field just after midway when the caution came out and took traffic temporarily out of the equation. The top five pulled away after the ensuing restart and while Thornton was lapping cars the final five circuits, Austin Arneson, Jason Wolla, Eddie Belec and Spencer Wilson could not catch the leader and followed him across the stripe on that order. Elijah Zevenbergen ran his streak to three straight IMCA Sunoco Stock Car tour checkers. Chanse Hollatz and Dalton Flory took turns at the point before Zevenbergen gained the lead 10 laps in. Kendall chases O’Neill to Jamestown checkers

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (July 11) – Runner-up Billy Kendall III was the talk of the town Saturday night at Jamestown Speedway. Kendall raced from 10th starting and battled Jeff Taylor and Jacob Bleess before chasing Jake O’Neil to the checkers in round two of the Dakota Classic Tour for IMCA Modifieds. Wheeling a home-built car, Kendall swapped the second with, and then had the former tour champion close behind as he pursued O’Neill. Blees ended in fourth, Kelsie Foley fifth. A lap 16 restart opened the door for Elijah Zevenbergen to continue his winning ways in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car half of the tour. Former champs top Dakota Tour openers

WEST FARGO, N.D. (July 10) – Two former champions were feature winners for the Friday night lidlifter at Red River Valley Speedway. Ricky Thornton Jr., the 2015 Modified and defending Stock Car king, started ninth and motored to the $2,400 IMCA Modified checkers. Already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, Thornton led Tyler Hall, Austin Arneson, Alex Stanford and Jake O’Neil to the finish. And Elijah Zevenbergen began adding to the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car Tour legacy of his own as the five-time tour champion started from the pole and took that $1,000 win ahead of Eric Mahlik. Hibdon wins second straight at Benton County

By Jerry Mackey VINTON, Iowa (July 12) – Fisher Towing & Recovery of Garrison sponsored the mid-season championships at Benton County Speedway on Sunday night on a near perfect weather night for racing. The Bullring provided everything the race fan could ask for. The IMCA Modifieds saw Kollin Hibdon charge to the front from his third row start and take command. Hibdon scored the win over one of the hottest drivers in the Midwest in Tom Berry Jr. Berry advanced from the eighth starting position but could not catch the strong running Hibdon in settling for second. Twenty-seven Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod drivers signed in and the feature saw plenty of action. Tony Olson quickly worked to the front from his fourth row start and set up a battle with his cousin Kyle Olson. Kyle Suter Memorial headlines BVR Wednesday show

ALTA, Iowa – One thousand dollars is the top prize for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Buena Vista Raceway’s Wednesday, July 15 Kyle Suter Memorial, presented by North Central Line Service. Completing the midweek card are IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods, racing for $1,000 to win as well, and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $300 to win. All classes are draw/redraw. The Modified feature is a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. Entry fee for Modifieds and Stock Cars is $25. Spectator admission is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors, veterans and students ages 13-18, and $2 or free with donation of a non-perishable food item for kids ages 12 and under. Pit passes are $25 for adults and $15 for kids ages 6-10. Gates and the grandstand open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow.

Williams wins night one at Wheatshocker Nationals

HAYS, Kan. (July 11) – The United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing took on night one of the Wheatshocker Nationals at RPM Speedway Saturday night. A stacked 20-car field was in attendance and Ty Williams was the front-runner. Shane Sundquist and J.D. Johnson lined up on the front row of the 25-lap IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature. Shane Sundquist took off with the early lead, but not without Koby Walters eager to grab the top position. Walters took the top spot and Ty Williams was next to challenge Sundquist for second place. A rim-riding Williams and Walters battled for the lead until lap 15 when Williams claimed the top spot. Walters hung on to the second position until the last lap when hard-charger Jason Martin nipped him at the line to take the runner-up position with Walters settling for third. Feature results – 1. Sluka stars Saturday at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (July 11) – Roger Sluka led start to finish in winning a fast-paced Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main event Saturday at Eagle Raceway. Sluka brought the 5S back to the flag stand first with Rich Flock, James Hines and Bobby Draper rounding out the top four. Lap three saw Braydon Latture race into second with Mike Scheinost taking third and Draper holding onto fourth. Derek Hall passed Draper on lap nine and Scheinost got past Latture for second two laps later, but Latture got the spot back after another two circuits with Shawn Harker jumping up to third. Harker got past Latture after two more rounds as Arie Schouten moved into fourth. Harker dropped out with just three to go making the final top four Sluka, Schouten, Latture and Brian Baker. Masoner scores first IMCA Stock Car win

With a dominating performance, Carson Masoner picked up his first career win in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. One week after letting one slip away late, Masoner drove away from the field to pick up the win and celebrate in victory lane. Brad Derry moved up to finish second after starting 10th. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars saw a new face in victory lane as Kenny Potter earned his first win of the season. Block bags $1,000 IMCA Modified payday at Outagamie

(July 10) – Forty-eight IMCA Modifieds were in the house Friday at Outagamie Speedway and it was Wyatt Block bagging the $1,000 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying win. Block jumped to the lead from his outside front row starting spot while Jason Ebert and Josh Long waged a hefty battle for the runner-up position. Ebert was finally able to dispose of Long on lap 12 and set his sights on Block. As the laps clicked by, Ebert began to close but the lead Block had built up was too much. Block cruised to his first feature win of the season to score the rich payday.
