Lumsden is July 4 IMCA Modified winner at Rattlesnake

By Ben Deatherage FALLON, Nev. (July 4) – After being idle for about a month, race teams and drivers alike were ready to be back in action Saturday at Rattlesnake Raceway. A new face graced victory lane following the IMCA Modified feature as Wade Lumsden collected his first triumph of the season. Steve Evenson was the runner-up over third finishing Steven Anderson. Rattlesnake Raceway returns to action on Saturday, July 25 for Christmas In July.

Engines roar on The Fourth at Cottage Grove

(July 4) – The roar of the engines returned to Cottage Grove Speedway for the Fourth of July and John Campos took care of business in the much-anticipated IMCA Modified main event. Campos seized the initial lead over the rest of the field, slowed only by three stoppages, and 0n each restart he managed to keep back all contenders to lead the distance for his first feature win of 2020. Defending Shaw Race Cars Western region champion Bricen James was the runner-up while Steven Sturdevant got third. Shawn Hand was quick in the early stages of the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod race. The Springfield chauffeur led the first two trips past the flag stand before being overtaken by Art Hiatt, who then blazed the trail the balance of the distance. Bard wins PASS Lincoln barnburner

(July 4) – Approaching his first anniversary as a Pennsylvania Sprint Series competitor, Garrett Bard collected his eighth series victory Saturday at Lincoln Speedway. It might have been the toughest, as the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars provided fans with a full July 4 fireworks display on the track. Bard took advantage of a front-row starting spot to lead all the way in the 20-lap feature, but the last half of the event featured perhaps the most torrid challenges to that lead Bard has had to turn back. Third starting Doug Dodson spent most of the race in the runner-up spot but really turned up the heat just past halfway, trying a slide job on lap 12 and several more afterward, one of which briefly put the no. 20 in the lead, only to have Bard execute a cross-over and retake first. Marshalltown Speedway primes for July 9 Dale DeFrance Memorial

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – One of Central Iowa’s best known racing families will be celebrated Thursday at Marshalltown Speedway. Five IMCA divisions are on the card for the third annual Dale DeFrance Memorial on July 9. IMCA Sunoco Late Models run for $2,619 to win that evening in their 500th and final Summer Series event, and DeFrance’s son Darrel will complete his perfect series attendance streak at his hometown track. Top prize for IMCA Modifieds is $1,125 in a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying feature. Rice rockets to Langley Virginia Sprint Series win

(July 4) – Bill Rice showed his heat race win was no fluke as he was a rocket all night en route to his first Virginia Sprint Series win of the year Saturday at Langley Speedway. Rice and Matt Mullins paced the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car field to green with Rice out first and staying low and fast. After a shuffle at the front, Daren Bolac settled into second with Mike Leraas and Jerald Harris following closely. Harris made the move to work his way to second while Mike Keeton was showing speed after a pit stop on the start and was up to fourth. Rice continued to lead as Harris closed with Leraas and Keeton next. Harris was less than a second off the pace as the white flag waved but could get no closer as Rice flashed under the checkered flag first. $1K IMCA Modified feature at Thunderbird complements salute to veterans, fireworks

MUSKEGON, Mich. – A $1,000 to win IMCA Modified feature event complements the Saturday salute to veterans and lots of fireworks at Thunderbird Raceway. There is no entry fee for the July 11 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier at Muskegon and IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Dirt Works Eastern Region, KMJ Performance State and track points will be awarded. Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 5 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m. Pit passes are $30. Spectator admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors 60 years and over and $5 for kids ages 6-11. Veterans with ID and youngsters five and under are free. Career 100th IMCA Modified win for Hatlestad

ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 4) – Clint Hatlestad had a fantastic night as he was able to pick up his 100th IMCA Modified career win Saturday at Arlington Raceway. Hatlestad started eighth but had command of the race following an early restart. Another yellow on lap seven gave Toby Patchen an opportunity to challenge but Hatlestad wasn’t to be denied as he pulled away from the field. Patchen took the inside line for the final restart on lap 14 but couldn’t get around and watched as Hatlestad sailed to the checkers. Patchen took second with Josh Ruby starting 11th and finishing third. Dan Mackenthun was the third and final leader in the IMCA Sunoco Sock Car feature after inching ahead of Matt Speckman on the last lap. Inaugural California IMCA Modified Speedweek dates announced

By Ben Deatherage MERCED, Calif. – Something exciting is around the bend in the California IMCA Modified scene. Doug Lockwood, promoter at Merced Speedway, has put together the first-ever Modified Speedweek in the State of California. The series will race from Monday, Aug. 10 to Saturday, Aug. 15 at six different racetracks in as many nights. The racing extravaganza will be open to both IMCA Modifieds and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. Each race will feature a 20-car main event for $1,000 to win and $50 to start for the Modifieds while SportMods will race for $600 to the winner and $40 to start. Modified features are Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events. Point funds will be up for grabs in both divisions, with $1,000-$400-$200-$100-$100 shares being paid in the Modifieds and $600-$300-$200-$100-$100 shares paid in the SportMods. Carter scores big win on Benton County Speedway’s Urbana 5 Race Night

By Jerry Mackey VINTON, Iowa (July 5) – One hundred and forty-seven drivers packed the pit area at the Benton County Speedway Bullring Sunday night for the Urbana 5 Memorial. The very special race night was run in memory of the five youngsters who perished in a tragic traffic accident in April of 2015; the kids were all avid race fans. The headliner of the night was the 25-lap Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature. With the lineup included past national and IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s champions, the Urbana 5 committee bolstered the winner’s share of the purse to $1,800. The extra money brought a stout field of 30 SportMod drivers to The Bullring on Sunday night. Ryerson races to first win of season at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (July 4) – It was a happy Chad Ryerson in his post race interview after winning the 18-lap Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod contest Saturday at Boone Speedway. Ryerson started sixth and took over the top spot at lap nine but had a lot of close company coming at him hot and heavy in the likes of Doug Smith and Johnathon Logue. Smith and Logue tussled back and forth for the second position and Ryerson was content to let them do so as he raced to the win, his first at Boone this season. Logue finished a close second with Smith in third. Twelfth place starter Adam Birck finished fourth and Robert Moore was fifth. Another first time winner came out of the IMCA Modifieds as Randy Havlik took the checkers in just his second night in the car. Havlik overtook Joel Bushore to put win number one in the books.
