Czarapata gets first Outagamie win of season

By Edward Anschutz SEYMOUR, Wis. (June 25) – Friday’s IMCA Modified headliner at Outagamie Speedway started with J.J. Andersen jumping to an early lead as Cody Schroeder and Jason Czarapata gave chase. Czarapata was the first to work the cushion, working his way around Schroeder for second. Czarapata set his sights on Andersen, who was running the tires. Czarapata swept around Andersen and to the lead on lap nine. Schroeder followed suit around the outside, closing right to the back bumper of Czarapata. Schroeder made every move possible but couldn’t find the grip to make the pass. Czarapata scored his first win of the season and a clean sweep to boot. Schroeder had to settle for second at the pay window, Andersen was third. The race went green to checkers. Marshalltown wins race with Mother Nature

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 25) – Three new faces visited victory lane this season on a fast-paced KMJ Performance Free Grandstand Night and Iowa Seamless Gutter VIP Night Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. New winners were Paul Nagle in the IMCA Modifieds, Jay Schmidt in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Vern Jackson in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods.  Jacob Murray and Nagle led the IMCA Modified field to green. Nagle immediately grabbed the lead as Murray settled into second. Ronn Lauritzen started eighth and took over second from Murray with just three laps remaining in the contest. In the closing circuits, Nagle pulled away and took the easy win, with Lauritzen trailing a good distance to take the runner-up spot. Murray held on to finish third. Nodak to host IMCA Dakota Tour on two nights as U.S.-Canadian border remains closed

MINOT, N.D. – With the restriction on non-essential travel between the United States and Canada extended into mid-July, Nodak Speedway will host a second Corral Sales Dakota Classic Tour event. Touring IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars are at Minot on Sunday, July 11 and now Monday, July 12 as well. Estevan Motor Speedway in Saskatchewan would have been the site of the Monday show had travel restrictions, imposed last March due to the Covid-19 pandemic, been eased. “Due to this fact that we have no control over, the Corral Sales Dakota Classic Modified Tour will revert to Plan B with Nodak Speedway in Minot taking the Monday, July 12 date in place of Estevan,” said Tour Director John Gartner, also noting that fully vaccinated Canadians may have an easier time traveling by air to the U.S.  The 32nd annual tour starts Saturday, July 10 at Jamestown Speedway. Latest great finish sees Smith score BVR’s Jimmy Squib Memorial feature

ALTA, Iowa (June 23) – A season that’s already seen Mike Smith score some great finishes saw him score another one Wednesday night. Smith took the lead early into Buena Vista Raceway’s Jimmy Squib Memorial feature for IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and stayed in front to a career-best $1,000 checkers. “I’ve had a lot of really great finishes this season, five wins and lots of top five’s,” he said. “There are so many good cars and so many good competitors in this class. It feels good to know I’m able to race with those guys.” The defending race winner took the initial green from third; the only caution of the race came out just before halfway in the 20-lapper. The Jimmy Squib Memorial feature had been postponed a week and became Smith’s third straight at Alta.  Tenth starting Craig Brotherton, James Johnson, Drew Barglof and Dillon Magnussen rounded out the top five.  Dylan Fitzpatrick won the evening’s scheduled feature with Smith racing from 12th starting to finish a close second.

Benton County Fair races postponed to Sunday

VINTON, Iowa (June 24) – Rainy weather has forced the postponement of the 2021 Benton County Fair races. Originally scheduled for Thursday, June 24, the annual fair races at The Bullring have been rescheduled for Sunday, June 27, pending an improved weather forecast for county fair events.  While the race date has changed, increased prize money for the fair race remains up-for-grabs Sunday for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars presented by Albert Auto Service, Karl Kustoms IMCA Northern SportMods presented by Christie Door Company, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks presented by Kwik Star and Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compacts presented by Auto Crafters. SportMods will compete for a $750 winner’s share and $100 to start on Sunday, Stock Cars $500 to win and $100 to start, Hobby Stocks $400 and $75, and Sport Compacts $250 and $75. The show will also feature a special appearance by the American Iron Racing Series (A.I.R.S.).  IMCA state, regional and national points will be awarded in the draw/redraw event. Morris gets first feature win at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (June 23) – Bryan Morris made his way to victory lane following his first Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod win Wednesday at Stuart Speedway. The Northern SportMods were first up with Blair Simmons and Morris on the front row. Morris took charge early with Dusty Masolini and Cam Reimers in tow. A caution with nine laps down bunched the field but Morris was too strong as he went on to the win, his first ever in the division. Second was Masolini, Brayton Carter third, Reimers fourth and Colton Nelson fifth. Next up were the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars with Zac Johnson and Miciah Hidlebaugh leading the field to the green flag. Brock Badger shot into the lead early with Hidlebaugh and Brandon Pruitt battling hard for second. Osborn drives to Dawson County checkers

(June 20) – Honoring a former racer and die-hard fan, competitors at Dawson County Raceway challenged tooth and nail to earn the privilege of driving into the winners circle on Fred Beardsley Memorial Night Sunday evening.  Working through traffic, Colton Osborn was able to walk away with the victory in the IMCA Modified feature. Osborn started on the outside of the second row and was fifth overall at the end of the first lap when he started his climb to the front. It was on lap eight that Osborn was able to power his way into the lead and never look back to earn the victory.  Chaz Baca of Mesa, Ariz., the current IMCA national points leader, was able to move up from his third row start and earn second place accolades. Three IMCA divisions in action at Aztec after end of 638 day racing hiatus in New Mexico

AZTEC, N.M. – Six hundred-plus days of waiting to race ended for drivers and fans at Aztec Speedway on June 11.  After hosting its final IMCA races on Aug. 10 and last event of the season in September of 2019, the New Mexico speedplant was shuttered by the Covid-19 pandemic and its accompanying health and social guidelines for all of 2020. Hoping to get the green flag from the governor’s office, promoter Mike Tenski and his crew started getting the 3/8-mile clay oval race ready this May. After receiving the go-ahead from Santa Fe, they put quick final touches on the track surface, bleachers, restrooms and concession stands over nine days leading up to the re-opening weekend.  “While we were getting ready, we held our breath hoping everything would go right. Erickson takes tall trophy at Arlington Raceway

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 19) – Drivers raced hard and furiously for the big trophies Farmer Brown Motorsports provided for the evening Saturday at Arlington Raceway. Joshua Winsky led the first lap from his front row start but there was a first lap caution flag which restacked the Mach-1 Sport Compact field and when the race finally got going, Jaedon Erickson led the pack for nine laps to win the race. Brett McConnell gained several positions on a restart and tried to catch Erickson but settled for second ahead of J.R. Esqueda.  The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature had two different leaders with Brandon Allen and Brandon Buysse on the front row. Allen got a commanding lead but a couple of yellow flags were thrown when cars spun on lap seven and Buysse took full advantage as he got the edge on Allen and pulled away from him.  Allen then had to contend with Bill Johnson and Trevor Serbus, holding them off from advancing.
