Spring Fling checkers fly for James

By Stephanie Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (April 23) – Cottage Grove Speedway was in action for the Spring Fling doubleheader weekend and while wet weather washed away the Saturday program, Bricen James topped the IMCA Modified main event on Friday .  Paul Rea set the pace in the first few laps.  The Eugene veteran was at the point of the pack until lap three when Jeffrey Hudson got around him.  Hudson, from the central Oregon town of Keno and racing for car owner Don Roemer, stayed there for the majority of the race.  Hudson was overtaken late, on lap 18, by Albany’s Bricen James.  James had to deal with a couple of stoppages which meant he had to deal with a handful of restarts.  Bricen mastered each of them and the seventh starting driver went on to win his first race of the 2021 campaign. Corbett chauffeur Collen Winebarger got second while third place was credited to Curtis Towns, of Cottage Grove.  Albany’s Matthew Drager and Otis teenager Eston Whisler were fourth and fifth in [Read More]

Duke rules PASS at Port Royal

By Frank Buhrman PORT ROYAL, PA. (APRIL 24) – “It seems like forever since we won a race.” For 2019 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car national and Pennsylvania Sprint Series champion Ken Duke Jr., that was an understandable thought. After scoring eight victories in that magical season, he only visited victory lane once in 2020, on July 11 at his hometown Selinsgrove Speedway.  There were plenty of good finishes – 12 top five’s – but then only the one last year and none so far in 2021, so it made Saturday’s Port Royal Speedway win, the 17th victory of his PASS career, special. “We got a good pill draw tonight (starting second in the feature),” Duke said from victory lane. “The track was to our liking. They did a great job with the surface here. We got lucky, we started on the front row that makes things so much easier.”  Duke slipped past fellow front-row starter Rowdy Heffner in the second turn of the first lap and was untouchable in clean air, but some struggling in [Read More]

Richards rules IMCA Stock Car feature at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (April 24) – Wheel-to-wheel action the whole night was part of the story on opening night Saturday at Eagle Raceway. Cade Richards won the first weekly IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature at Eagle. The victory by the two-division star followed up his first-ever victory at Eagle which came in a Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod and came ahead of Kyle Vanover and Jordan Grabouski.  “We’ve got the car working really well on these high banked tracks. We’re really improving and getting it closer to where we want it, so hopefully we can keep building off my two wins this week and keep it going,” said Richards, also the Friday winner at Salina. “The Stock Car is better right now because we have it so close, but they’re both really close right now. The SportMod needs a little adjusting and the Stock Car needs just a touch more drive. We’ll have them both figured out by next week.”  Three-time and defending track champion Grabouski was the IMCA Modified feature winner while Joey Danley’s late [Read More]

Competition is fierce at Lincoln County lidlifter

By Kelly Ninas NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (April 24) – Getting the season started off on the right foot, the competition was fierce for top honors during the 2021 Lincoln County Raceway season opener on Saturday night. Earning elite accolades for their efforts to be spotlighted in victory lane were Dillon Schultz, Troy Bayne, Mikey Dancer, Tanner Clough and Ted Trumbo. Starting on the inside of the second row, Schultz grabbed the lead early and never look back to earn the IMCA Modified victory. Stalking Schultz much of the event was Brandon Clough as he tried to catfish around the low side of the track as well test the waters on the cushion but it was too little, too late and Clough was forced to settle for runner-up honors.  Don Geist was third. Taking full advantage of the great starting position, Bayne was the winner of the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature. Bayne started on the pole and cruised to the victory.  Paul Donovan started on the outside of the front row and challenged Bayne early, [Read More]

Lemmens, Sobiesczyk, Mullen are Shawano winners

By Dave Buss SHAWANO, Wis. (April 24) – Hardy fans came out Saturday evening to Shawano Speedway to see Luke Lemmens, Tyler Sobiesczyk and Mike Mullen pick up IMCA feature wins. Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods led off feature action with Dylan Waldvogel and Sobiesczyk on the front row. Sobiesczyk did not let his great starting position go to waste as he stormed out to a commanding lead in the early part of the race. Waldvogel was challenged and eventually passed by John Holtger, who got close to the Sobiescyk machine on a couple of occasions but was not able to make the pass. Back in traffic, Jayden Schmidt was working his way forward in a spirited battle with Jeffrey Teske and Max Oreskovich.  Schmidt eventually grabbed the third spot with Teske fourth. After troubles in his heat race, Teske had recovered by winning the “B” main. Early on it looked like the IMCA Modified main would be the Eddie Munster show. Top side, and a little luck, take Wilkinson to victory lane

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (April 24) – Cameron Wilkinson ended in victory lane after an IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature that ended green, white, checkered Saturday at Off Road Speedway. Wilkinson used the high side of the track, along with the benefit of a caution that set up that finish, to go from fourth place with three laps remaining to first.  “We had a little luck with that caution but I found that top side because at the beginning (the car in front of me) was spinning out in front of me,” Wilkinson said. “I had bad luck there, so I got to falling back and searching for what (line) was best.”  “I finally figured out that in turn one and two I needed to go to the top, and in three and four I just needed to hit it as hard as I could … just keep the tires on and keep it as straight as I could,” he said. “When we had that caution I was like, well, we’re going to give [Read More]
