See repeats in CJ Stocks

By Jerry Mackey  COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 24) – Races on Friday at the CJ Speedway were the 2020 Louisa County Fair Races and took place on a beautiful night on another perfectly prepared track. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars never disappoint and the main event saw Jason See win for the second consecutive week, this time in very dramatic fashion. Howard Gordon Jr. led for several laps early before the lead pack swelled to five drivers. At the midway point at least four drivers had a legitimate shot at scoring the win. See advanced from his fifth position start and was holding the lead while Adam Bell was closing. See and Bell took the white flag in a dead heat for the lead. The two raced down the back chute with See out front but Bell was going to make one last charge. Coming out of turn four, Bell was on the outside of See, the two raced under the checkers with See scoring the win by approximately one foot. Cody Staley scored his [Read More]

Richardson is best in URSS opener at Bullring Nationals

LaCROSSE, Kan. (July 25) – The POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series Presented by Mel Hambelton Ford Racing took to the Bullring at Rush County Speedway and Steven Richardson maneuvered a last lap pass to claim the night one Bullring Nationals feature win.  Zach Blurton and Jordan Knight set the pace for the 25-lap feature event for the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars. Blurton took off with the early lead. Koby Walters and Jordan Knight fell in behind the race leader. Blurton finessed lapped traffic on lap seven, separating some distance between himself and the runner-up.   A late race caution saw the field bunched back up. Some confusion on the restart called for mass chaos for front-runners Blurton and Walters. Both took off for the restart but the waving of the green had not yet occurred. Walters and Blurton tangled and restarted at the tail of the field, putting Knight into the top position.  The green, white, checkered restart was one for the books and found Knight with the lead while Richardson was right there to [Read More]

Eckrich becomes third Drive For 5 feature winner

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (July 17) – The third installment of the Shottenkirk Parts Express Drive For 5 resulted in a third different $1,000 IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature winner Friday at Pepsi Lee County Speedway. Andy Eckrich saw his drive to the checkers slowed by just a single caution, topping the 25-lapper ahead of Denny Woodworth and Dustin Griffin. Eckrich and Woodworth drew front row starts, with Eckrich taking the early lead over Woodworth and Griffin.  The team cars of Woodworth and Griffin tried to keep pace with Eckrich over the first half of the race but the leader steadily began to pull away from both. The only thing to slow Eckrich down was the only caution of the race, on lap 15. Eckrich jumped back out front following the restart, with Woodworth and Griffin glued to his back bumper. He went on to lead the final 10 laps to score his first win of the season at Donnellson.  Second night Drive For 5 winner Nick Marolf was fourth while Mark Burgtorf, winner of the first Drive [Read More]

Port Royal checkers are PASS fourth of season for Bard

By Frank Buhrman  PORT ROYAL, Pa. (July 18) – Garrett Bard notched Pennsylvania Sprint Series win number four of the season at Port Royal Speedway Saturday, coming from seventh starting spot – the biggest advance to a win since the season opener May 30 – and holding off a determined veteran Nathan Gramley at the end.  With defending IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car national and PASS champion Ken Duke Jr. and Gramley, both former Port Royal champions, on the front row, it might have seemed that things would be settled there, but Bard and several other challengers had other ideas.  Gramley built a nice little lead in the early laps, but a caution bunched the field again, looking to improve on three straight runner-up finishes. Of the group behind the pair, it was Bard who made the move, passing both Duke and Gramley over the next five laps. The veteran Gramley kept Bard in his sights, though, and when a close brush with the outside wall caused the leader to drop to a lower line, Gramley [Read More]
