Engines roar on The Fourth at Cottage Grove

(July 4) – The roar of the engines returned to Cottage Grove Speedway for the Fourth of July and John Campos took care of business in the much-anticipated IMCA Modified main event. Campos seized the initial lead over the rest of the field, slowed only by three stoppages, and 0n each restart he managed to keep back all contenders to lead the distance for his first feature win of 2020. Defending Shaw Race Cars Western region champion Bricen James was the runner-up while Steven Sturdevant got third. Shawn Hand was quick in the early stages of the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod race. The Springfield chauffeur led the first two trips past the flag stand before being overtaken by Art Hiatt, who then blazed the trail the balance of the distance. Bard wins PASS Lincoln barnburner

(July 4) – Approaching his first anniversary as a Pennsylvania Sprint Series competitor, Garrett Bard collected his eighth series victory Saturday at Lincoln Speedway. It might have been the toughest, as the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars provided fans with a full July 4 fireworks display on the track. Bard took advantage of a front-row starting spot to lead all the way in the 20-lap feature, but the last half of the event featured perhaps the most torrid challenges to that lead Bard has had to turn back. Third starting Doug Dodson spent most of the race in the runner-up spot but really turned up the heat just past halfway, trying a slide job on lap 12 and several more afterward, one of which briefly put the no. 20 in the lead, only to have Bard execute a cross-over and retake first. Rice rockets to Langley Virginia Sprint Series win

(July 4) – Bill Rice showed his heat race win was no fluke as he was a rocket all night en route to his first Virginia Sprint Series win of the year Saturday at Langley Speedway. Rice and Matt Mullins paced the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car field to green with Rice out first and staying low and fast. After a shuffle at the front, Daren Bolac settled into second with Mike Leraas and Jerald Harris following closely. Harris made the move to work his way to second while Mike Keeton was showing speed after a pit stop on the start and was up to fourth. Rice continued to lead as Harris closed with Leraas and Keeton next. Harris was less than a second off the pace as the white flag waved but could get no closer as Rice flashed under the checkered flag first. Career 100th IMCA Modified win for Hatlestad

ARLINGTON, Minn. (July 4) – Clint Hatlestad had a fantastic night as he was able to pick up his 100th IMCA Modified career win Saturday at Arlington Raceway. Hatlestad started eighth but had command of the race following an early restart. Another yellow on lap seven gave Toby Patchen an opportunity to challenge but Hatlestad wasn’t to be denied as he pulled away from the field. Patchen took the inside line for the final restart on lap 14 but couldn’t get around and watched as Hatlestad sailed to the checkers. Patchen took second with Josh Ruby starting 11th and finishing third. Dan Mackenthun was the third and final leader in the IMCA Sunoco Sock Car feature after inching ahead of Matt Speckman on the last lap. Trevor Serbus was also third to the front in winning the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car main. A single caution slowed the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod main. Ryerson races to first win of season at Boone

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (July 4) – It was a happy Chad Ryerson in his post race interview after winning the 18-lap Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod contest Saturday at Boone Speedway. Ryerson started sixth and took over the top spot at lap nine but had a lot of close company coming at him hot and heavy in the likes of Doug Smith and Johnathon Logue. Smith and Logue tussled back and forth for the second position and Ryerson was content to let them do so as he raced to the win, his first at Boone this season. Logue finished a close second with Smith in third. Twelfth place starter Adam Birck finished fourth and Robert Moore was fifth. Another first time winner came out of the IMCA Modifieds as Randy Havlik took the checkers in just his second night in the car. Havlik overtook Joel Bushore to put win number one in the books. Larson, Shryock earn IMCA tour wins at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 1) – A teenager with the biggest win of his life and a veteran driver with a ton of feature wins highlighted the Midwest Madness Tour show at Kossuth County Speedway. Sixteen-year old Jayden Larson won the IMCA Modified feature, holding off Travis Hatcher, Jeremy Mills and Kelly Shyrock for the biggest victory of his young career. The $1,000 checkers put the Mankato, Minn., driver on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. The veteran Shryock also earned $1,000 for his IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory. Hatcher and Larson led 24 Modifieds to the flag stand with Larson out front by lap two. After cautions on laps six and 10, the race stayed green for nine circuits. Bubak sprints to first at Fairbury’s Firecracker Nationals

FAIRBURY, Neb. (July 4) – Independence Day led the Mel Hambelton Ford Racing POWRi United Rebel Sprint Series to the 1/5-mile bullring of Jefferson County Speedway in Fairbury. A stacked field was on hand for the historic marking, the first time Sprint Cars took to the semi-banked dirt track and three-time series champion Jake Bubak was the victor. Kyler Johnson took off with the early lead with a heated battle for second behind him. Stuart Snyder rocketed ahead into turn three to take the lead on the fifth lap with J.D. Johnson following. Leaders caught the end of the field before a lap 10 caution. Snyder took off with the lead on the restart, with Bubak, Zach Blurton and J.D. Johnson in the hunt for the lead. Bowers sweeps weekend at U.S. 36

By Jacob Blair OSBORN, Mo. (July 4) – For the second straight night of racing at U.S. 36 Raceway, the IMCA Modifieds saw Steven Bowers Jr. visit Westfall GMC Victory Lane. Bowers used a front-row starting position to lead every lap of the feature in route to the dominating win. Chad Clancy started in the ninth position and patiently worked his way to second. The lone caution of the race allowed Clancy a chance at Bowers, but Bowers kept a comfortable margin after the restart. Josh Munsen completed the podium with a third place run. Bowers, already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, earned $1,000 for his Saturday efforts. Carson Masoner paced the first half of the race in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Svoboda sails at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (July 4) – Austin Svoboda took advantage of an early restart, getting the lead and eventually the Saturday night IMCA Modified feature win at Eagle Raceway. Anthony Roth took over second late in the contest, with Clint Homan and Aaron Pella rounding out the top four. Cole Wayman won for the second straight week in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Jeff Ware notched another IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock victory with a huge run to the front on the final circuit. Josh Young led every lap of the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature. Trevor Grossenbacher got the lead with seven laps left and held off Jason Danley for the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car checkers.

Pollard, Hibdon Top List of Winners At Independence Motor Speedway

By Jerry Mackey INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – Saturday, July 4th saw 111 race cars take part in the Independence Motor Speedway holiday special. The headliner of the night was the 25-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model main event. Eric Pollard shot to the high side of the speedway from his front row start and sailed to the win. Hometown favorite Curt Martin tried to reel in the quick running Pollard but was unable to mount a serious challenge in settling for second. Twelfth starting Kolin Hibdon scored the win in the IMCA Modified feature. The 16-year-old from Nevada used every line on the track in making his way to the front. Hibdon overtook race leader Ronn Lauritzen near the midway point of the main and raced under the checkers ahead of Lauritzen and Jeff Aikey.
