Baumli up to challenge at Doyle Lance Remembrance Race

By Jacob Blair  OSBORN, Mo. (June 26) – When the big money is on the line, it is historically J.J. Baumli always challenging to run away with the winner’s check. However, for the Doyle Lance Remembrance Race for the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, it looked as though Mich Ross and Connor Masoner would be the one’s battling for the trophy.  Ross led more than half of the 20-lap feature, with Masoner in his tire tracks. With a few laps to go, Masoner got a run on Ross and the two made contact. Both drivers left the track with flat tires and Baumli inherited the lead and the eventual win. Chad Clancy, making his first appearance in a Stock Car this season, finished in the second position. Tim Eaton, also making his first Stock Car appearance of 2020, finished third with Thomas Roberts fourth and Brad Derry in fifth. Boumeester is winner at Kossuth County Wyffel’s Hybrids IMCA SportMod special

By Greg Grabianowski  ALGONA, Iowa (June 25) – Jared Boumeester led the final 19 laps to collect the $1,000 checkers in the Wyffel’s Hybrids IMCA SportMod special at Kossuth County Speedway. Twenty-nine Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods contested the Thursday night main event with Boumeester getting the win ahead of Matt Looft and George Nordman.  Boumeester had slid past Zach Davis for the lead on the sixth lap of the 25-lap feature and built a comfortable lead before encountering a group of lapped cars on the 15th circuit. Looft closed the gap to make things interesting as the two drivers weaved in and out of traffic. Boumeester regained his line and held off the former national champion for his second win of the season at Algona.  “It was a nice win against a great field of almost 30 cars,” he said from victory lane. “When I got to that big group of lapped cars I was thinking ‘Come on, we need a yellow flag, maybe that would help not having to try to get through all of [Read More]

‘Nitro Nick’ nails Port Royal PASS feature

By Frank Buhrman PORT ROYAL, Pa. (June 20) – ‘Nitro’ Nick Sweigart made up for a couple of early season disappointments with a dominating wire-to-wire win in the 20-lap Pennsylvania Sprint Series feature Saturday at Port Royal Speedway. Sweigart took advantage of his pole start and put his IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car in victory lane for the first time in the late-starting 2020 season. The win was hardly a gimme, though. Last week’s Port Royal winner Garrett Bard, started 10th, got all the way to fourth on the opening lap, then took the runner-up spot on lap 11 and began to pressure Sweigart in lapped traffic during the caution-free race.  Sweigart responded, though, and was 1.5 seconds ahead at the checkered flag. Bard’s finish gave him two wins and two seconds in five PASS starts, plus a Laurel Highlands Sprint Series victory.  Dave Grube matched Bard’s charge, advancing from 11th starting spot to finish third, ahead of Larry McVay and Derek Hauck. The Penns Valley Meat Market Hard Charger Award went to sixth-finishing Doug Dodson, [Read More]

Siskiyou winners repeat in week two

By Ben Deatherage  YREKA, Calif. (June 20) – Saturday would be the second race of the 2020 season at Siskiyou Golden Speedway and both IMCA features saw repeat winners.  In the IMCA Modified feature, Paul Culp showed the way early.  Culp paced the field for the first handful of laps before getting passed by Travis Peery on lap six.  Peery, recently relocating to Yreka via Williston, N.D., had firm control of the top spot once in front.  He received a brief challenge around the 17th circuit by Riley Simmons, but the caution flag negated Simmons’ pass.  Peery held on the rest of the distance to capture his second straight victory at Siskiyou.  Simmons was the runner-up followed by Nick Trenchard, Culp and Duane Orsburn. Peery’s son Ryan got control of the point at the completion of the opening lap in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod feature before tangling with another car.  Matt Sanders inherited the lead and blazed the trail until lap 11.  Braaten would then have a dominating performance while running in first.  The [Read More]
