Fast start puts Bard in Port Royal victory lane

By Frank Buhrman  PORT ROYAL, Pa. (July 20) – Garrett Bard wasted no time in showing his ability in a full-sized Sprint Car, coming from ninth starting spot to second in his heat race and then winning Saturday’s 20-lap Pennsylvania Sprint Series feature at Port Royal Speedway.  It was only his fourth time out in a full-sized Sprinter, his second in an IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car and his first at Port Royal. The winner’s 305 career has been so brief that his no. 95 sprinter still has its numbers applied with tape, but fans and fellow competitors certainly will remember them now.  Bard had drawn the outside front row start but polesitter Devin Adams, who had picked up his first career win the last time PASS was at Port Royal, grabbed the early lead with last week’s Path Valley winner Drew Ritchey moving into second.  Running high in turns one and two and low in three and four, Adams worked his way smoothly through traffic in the feature. Bard caught Ritchey to take second on [Read More]

There was emotion in the winner’s voice.  Jeremiah Hurst has won many, but the season championship at his hometown Dubuque Speedway is always special.  Hurst started eighth but made his run to the front quick, taking the point for good on lap five and won the Eichman’s Bar & Grill IMCA Late Model 25-lapper Sunday evening at Dubuque Speedway. “It’s always special to win here,” Hurst said. “We’ll just keep winning.  The finale had to go to overdrive/overtime as runner-up Joel Callahan slammed the turn two wall and finally stopped on turn four as the white flag was ready to fly.  Hurst beat Jeff Tharp, Eric Pollard, Nebraska’s Cory Dumpert and Donnie Pataska on the green, white, checkered finish. “That (car) thing was digging holes off the turns,” Hurst said. “I knew I had to get to the bottom when I saw (Pollard) on the bottom. 2019 Super Nationals

Bound for Boone: Super Nationals experience is Sept. 2-7

BOONE, Iowa – Taking care of what some people might consider little things will make it a better week for all involved at the biggest event on the IMCA calendar. The IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s is primed for a Sept. 2-7 run at Boone Speedway. Two hundred and fifty drivers have already registered electronically, part of the process designed to streamline the 37th annual event. “Registration is very important. Purchasing an IMCA license if you have not done so is important. Having a MyRacePass account set up before the event is important,” IMCA President Brett Root summarized. “MRP wants to use a hard card system and scanner to register drivers, so they should get an MRP account and establish an MRP identity before they get to Boone.” “We are doing our best to streamline the sign-in process for all divisions,” he added. “One thing we can’t automate is the process to determine race of champion qualifying eligibility. That will continue to be part of the process that takes time.” Modified, Stock Car, [Read More]

Bolac blazes at The Bridge for first Sprint win of season

By Jim Haines NATURAL BRIDGE, Va. (July 13) – Daren Bolac changed almost everything after his heat and it really paid off as he took his first Virginia Sprint Series win of the year Saturday at Natural Bridge Speedway. Bill Rice and Bolac rolled the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car field to green with Bolac out first, Rice staying low in second and Mike Lerass and Nick Tucker fighting for third. Lerass used Bolac’s line to get a run on Rice and was quickly in second. Jerald Harris and Scott Lutz made their way to the front and soon got by Rice. The rest of the field stayed in pursuit of the front duo, who continued a mistake-free high line, low line battle. With 10 to go, Harris and Lutz got past Tucker and tried to chase down the lead pair.  Bolac had the high line working coming out of the corners and Leraas has the low line working better getting into the corners.
