Nielsen thunders to rich Hobby checkers at Algona

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (June 13) – Cody Nielsen made like lightning in winning Thursday’s Thunder­dome IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock Shootout at Kossuth County Speedway. The victory paid $1,000 and came ahead of defending race winner Dylan Nelson.  Josh Sidles and Jamie Weishaar brought the feature field to the flag stand as Sidles took the ini­tial lead.  Cautions came out on laps two and eight to bunch the field back up; Nielsen grabbed the lead at halfway and went on to his second feature win of the season at Algona.  Keeran Sampson, national points leader Leah Wroten and Josh Sidles completed the top five. Nielsen also scored hard charger honors after starting 11th.  Jeremy Mills raced to IMCA Modified career win number 99 and Heath Tulp topped the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature.  Alec Fett was first to the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMod checkers while Jay DeVries was the Mach-1 Sport Compact winner. New promoters see Sunday car counts on upswing at The New Raceway Park

JEFFERSON, S.D. – An offer he couldn’t say no to got Sioux City businessman Steve Kiraly back into motorsports. The former driver and industry veteran Dennis Moore now co-promote The New Raceway Park in Jef­ferson S.D. With IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms North­ern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts on regular weekly programs, they’ve seen car counts go up at every Sunday show since opening night on May 26. “It was excellent that we got the IMCA sanction,” said Kiraly. “We’re bringing the fun back to rac­ing at this track. We saw four-wide racing at our last show and the drivers had a blast. Murray County Speedway hosts Friday Sprint Series of Minnesota show

SLAYTON, Minn. – Murray County Speedway rolls out the red carpet for the first of three visits this season by the Sprint Series of Minnesota on Friday, June 14.  IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars vie for $500 to win and a minimum of $150 to start. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, E3 Spark Plugs State and special series points will be awarded; there is no entry fee.  Miller Sellner Case IH is sponsor for the evening’s program, which also features IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts.  Pit gates open at 5:30 p.m., the grandstand opens at 6 p.m. and hot laps are at 7:15 p.m., with racing to follow. Spectator admission is $12 for adults, $8 for students ages 11-17 and free for 10 and under. United Rebel Sprint Series primed for Dodge City Raceway Park 305 Nationals

Admission free Saturday at Perris for kids in Little League, Scout uniforms

PERRIS, Calif. – All kids wearing little league or scout uniforms will be admitted free to this Saturday’s event at Perris Auto Speedway.   As soon as the last preliminary race is over, drivers will bring their cars onto the front straightaway and all kids, whether they are wearing a uniform or not, will be allowed onto the track to collect candy, get autographs and take photos.  At the end of intermission, all the kids will go back into the stands to watch the main events. “The kids always have a great time at the races,” promoter Don Kazarian said.  “Especially on nights like this when they get to go on the track at intermission, meet all of the drivers and collect some candy as well.  We hope to see a lot of them get in for free by wearing their Boy Scout, Girl Scout, Cub Scout, Brownie or Little League uniform.  Bring the troop, team, or whole neighborhood.  The more the merrier and the more the fun.”  IMCA Modifieds make their third appearance of the season at Perris. Defending champ takes Ventura victory

VENTURA, Calif. (June 8) – Defending champion Trevor Fitz-Gibbon was the IMCA Modified feature winner Saturday at Ventura Raceway. The 20-lap main event was very competitive race and saw Scott Olsen lead laps 1-8.  He was passed by Austin Grawboski on lap nine. Grabowski led to lap 18, when Fitz-Gibbon passed him and went on to take the win.  Following Fitz-Gibbon to the line were Grabowski, Jack Parker, Andrew Greiman and Luis Espinosa. After the race, Grabowski failed to go to the IMCA claim area and was disqualified. After five races in 2019, Fitz-Gibbon leads Parker by six points.

Clough tames IMCA Modified foes at Wild West Challenge

By Kelly Ninas  NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (June 7) – Competitors came from far and wide to Lincoln County Raceway, to challenge for big money at Friday night’s Wild West Challenge. When the checkers flew, Brandon Clough had raced to his first IMCA Modified victory of the season, good for $1,100 and a berth on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.  Clough started on the inside of the second row and battled for position in the early going before taking took the lead on the seventh lap and setting sail for the win. Early leader Cole Hodges was the runner-up while veteran wheelman David Murray Jr. was third. Garnhart speeds to Smokey Rupp Memorial win

By Rob Hinckley DUBUQUE, Iowa (June 9) – Bryce Garnhart thought he would settle for second. Then the yellow light flashed in front of him due to the leader crashing. The defending track champion put the pedal down on the restart and cruised to the 25-lap Smokey Rupp Memorial Merfeld Brothers IMCA Modified win Sunday at Dubuque Speedway. The $1,000 victory put him on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “I know it was bad for him, but it made me happy,” Garnhart said in Hoker Trucking / C&W Truck­ing/Kam Koncepts Victory Circle. “Car ran great and I can’t thank everyone enough that works on this and supports us.” Hometown driver Austin Moyer helped lead the field to John Ryan’s green flag and quickly opened a large advantage. Larson’s IMCA Modified win is grand at Maquoketa

By Rob Hinckley MAQUOKETA, Iowa (June 8) – The pill draw was key for Jeff Larson Saturday at Maquoketa Speed­way. The Freeport, Ill. ace drew the number one after his heat and fended off a crazy finish to win the QCJeeps.com IMCA Modified 25-lap special and the $1,000 top prize, as well as a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth.  Larson led all but two laps that a high-side charging Ray Cox Jr. paced. A caution as the white flag was about to fly bunched the field for a two-lap dash. Cox broke on the restart to bring out another yellow. Larson ran the low groove early in the event, switched high to try and run down Cox and then finished high to outrun Timmy Current. Williamson dominates at Cottage Grove

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 8) – Kevin Williamson dominated the Mohawk Metal IMCA Modi­fied main event Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway. Williamson grabbed the top spot on lap four and never gave it back to win his first ever Modified race. Jake Mayden was second and Paul Rea third. In the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods a number of different drivers paced the field but it was Jorddon Braaten obtaining the lead on lap 15 with a late-race pass. Braaten parked his mount in victory lane for the second occasion of the 2019 season at Cottage Grove. Braedon Hand and Doug Coffman were next across the stripe.
