Merced Speedway preps for June 15 Ed Parker Memorial

MERCED, Calif. – IMCA Modifieds race for $1,700 to win, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods for $1,000 to win at Merced Speedway’s Saturday, June 15 Ed Parker Memorial. A Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth is at stake for the Modifieds, who race for a minimum of $100 to start. SportMods taking the feature green earn a minimum of $60. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, E3 Spark Plugs State and track points will be awarded in both divisions. Modifieds also contend for Larry Shaw Race Cars Western Region points. There is no entry fee for the draw/redraw show. Pit gates open at 2 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 5:45 p.m. with racing to follow. Spectator admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and military, $5 for students ages six to 12 and free for five and under. Pit passes are $40. Carter masters Marshalltown SportMods in photo finish

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 31) – Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods vied for a $500 top prize Friday at Marshalltown Speedway and Brayton Carter took home the top check in a photo finish. Thirty-one cars battled in an 18-lap main event that saw both Carter and runner-up Cory Rose come from the ninth row. The final laps turned out to be a barnburner with Johnathon Logue, Rose and Carter battling it out in an epic duel. All three drivers would hold momentary leads through those final circuits, but as they crossed the finish line, the win went to Carter in a photo finish. Rose was second by inches and Logue was a close third. Fourth went to Carter VanDenBerg and Tyler Inman was fifth after starting 15th. Marshalltown Speedway got back to racing after having its last four scheduled events scrapped by the weather. Top IMCA Modified prize is $1,000 this Sunday at Clay County

SPENCER, Iowa – A check for $1,000 and a berth on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot are on the line Sunday, June 2 at Clay County Fair Speedway. Eight hundred dollars of the IMCA Modified purse is sponsored by Weasy’s Bar & Grille. LJK Racing added to the divisional purse for the Abel Drainage & Excavating Night show at Spencer. Also on the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing program are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Feature winners in all divisions receive $100 gift cards from Spencer Auto Parts. Pit gates and the grandstand open at 4 p.m. Hot laps are at 5:30 p.m. with racing to follow. Hard charger Norris, Walsh top Legit Scrappin’ 40 IMCA Modified features

WEST PLAINS, Mo. (May 24-25) – Clay Norris stole the show on opening night of Legit Speedway Park’s Scrappin’ 40 Weekend. Shawn Walsh was the show on night two. Both were IMCA Modified feature winners at West Plains, with Norris racing from 19th to win the Friday feature and $750 on Friday, and Walsh leading all 40 laps en route to the $1,000, Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying checkers on Saturday. After a tough heat race outing, Norris gained his starting spot deep in the Friday field by running second in his ‘B’ feature. He made his charge through the pack using the lower line, caught long-time leader Walsh and stayed in front to the finish for his career first sanctioned win. IMCA Modifieds chase $3,700 top check at Silver Bullet’s Sam O’Connor Memorial

OWENDALE, Mich.– IMCA Modifieds chase a top check of $3,700 plus lap money at Silver Bullet Speedway’s inaugural Sam O’Connor Memorial on Saturday, June 1. O’Connor was a long-time competitor at Silver Bullet. His car number was 37 and that’s the number of laps that will be run in the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifier. The runner-up earns $1,037, with $937 paid for third, $837 for fourth, $737 for fifth, $637 for sixth, $537 for seventh, $437 for eighth, $337 for ninth, $237 for 10th and $137 for 11th through 20th. Ten dollars will be paid to the leader of each lap and the winner of a seven-car dash pockets $370. Top three finishers receive trophies and numerous contingency awards will be given. United Rebel Sprint Series heads to Dodge City for Saturday showdown

This event will be a tune-up for the upcoming third annual Lubbock Wrecker Service DCRP 305 Sprint Car Nationals that are set to take place June 13-15. Ellerman sprints to IMCA East Coast Nationals crown

(May 24-25) – Scott Ellerman used his outside front row starting spot to the best possible outcome Saturday night, staying smooth and never letting challengers move him off his line to the finish of the East Coast Nationals main event at Hagerstown Speedway. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car checkers were good for $1,000. Ellerman, who admitted to not having much luck at the draw, had run third in the final heat and was left with the number two pill and outside pole start. “This win means a lot,” said Ellerman, who beat fellow Pennsylvania Sprint Series regular Ken Duke to the finish by maybe a car length. “We’ve had motor trouble and we’ve had car trouble. It’s been real frustrating. Arneson scores Sheyenne Speedway IMCA Modified win

By Tom Berg LISBON, N.D. (May 27) – Austin Arneson took the lead early and never gave it up in picking up the Memorial Day IMCA Modified win at Sheyenne Speedway. John Nord was second, Greg Friestad third, Dylan Goplen fourth after starting last in the field and Dave Shipley fifth. The 1/4-mile oval at Lisbon hosted a track-record 118 cars for the holiday event.

Kent Lewis Classic checkers are career third for Schmidt

BEAUMONT, Texas (May 26) – Trey Schmidt added a third Kent Lewis Classic trophy to his collection, following a Memorial Weekend Southern United Sprint feature that was probably a little more exciting than he would have liked. After starting fourth and leading much of the way in the Sunday IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car show at Golden Triangle Raceway Park, Schmidt saw Rod Craddock slip by on the inside and take away the front spot. The two tussled the next three times around the oval, with Schmidt regaining the lead and holding on for the win, his second of the season, despite hitting an infield tire. “There are about three or four big events during the year that you always want to win,” said Schmidt, “and this is one of the biggest.” He’d also won a pair of non-wing Lewis Classics. Allen aces Arlington foes in Sprint Series of Minnesota

ARLINGTON, Minn. (May 25) – A former tour champion was back in victory lane following Saturday’s Sprint Series of Minnesota main event at Arlington Raceway. Brandon Allen put on a passing clinic in topping the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature. Allen, the 2015 tour king, took charge after an early restart, checking out of the rest of the 17-car field before taking the win ahead of Neil Stevens and Billy Johnson. Clint Hatlestad won the MN 93 IMCA Modified feature and the B&B Racing Chassis IMCA Stock Car features saw Chad Schroeder hold off Matt Schauer for the checkers.
