Bubak collects Bob Salem Memorial checkers

OBERLIN, Kan. (Aug. 18) – Jake Bubak continued his winning ways in United Rebel Sprint Series action Friday, topping the 25-lap feature Saturday at Oberlin Speedway’s Bob Salem Memorial. The win was good for $700. Bubak took charge from his outside front row starting spot from the onset and began stretching his lead, Jake Martens wrestled second from Mark Walinder on lap four and began the pursuit of Bubak in earnest. Bubak proved he was the master through lapped traffic in the caution-free event as he captured his third feature of the year with the URSS and Martens settled for second. Third went to a rim-riding J.D Johnson as he passed both Jeremy Huish and Zach Blurton coming out of turn four to the checkers. Blurton beating Huish to line as he was caught behind a lapped car. McCollum scores first Northern SportMod win

ARLINGTON, Minn. (Aug. 18) – A driver who has enjoyed considerable success over the years at Arlington Raceway found his way to victory lane Saturday night. Jeff McCollum prevailed in an IMCA Unhinged Pizza Northern SportMod feature that saw its fair share of cautions. The victory was the first in the class for McCollum, who owns 102 checkers in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car divisions as well as five Arlington track titles in the full-bodied division. First in the MN 93 IMCA Modified main went to Brandon Beckendorf. Trevor Serbus topped the 95.7 the Rock IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature and Matthew Schauer regained the lead with two laps left in winning the B & B Racing Chassis IMCA Stock Car main. Cory Probst was the Eckblad Trucking IMCA Hobby Stock winner and Bubba Brown led the distance in the Coors Light IMCA Sport Compact contest.

DeYoung is first at Crystal

CRYSTAL, Mich. (Aug. 18) – Brenten DeYoung motored up from his eighth place starting position to win the Lane Automotive IMCA Modified feature Saturday at Crystal Motor Speedway A.J. Ward and Dan Wiggins rounded out the top three.

Ritchie records first Shawano IMCA Modified win

(Aug. 18) – Justin Ritchie has won a number of features at Shawano Speedway, but the former late model track champion scored his first IMCA Modified feature Saturday night. Cautions plagued the start of the event, but once the race got going Tim Rothe took the lead. Ritchie pursued Rothe until lap three when he made an inside pass to take the lead. As Ritchie led, the action was hot and heavy behind him as Jason Czarapata, Lance Arneson and Wyatt Block all came from deep in the field to battle for second and third. In the end it was Ritchie making his way to victory lane followed by Czarapata, Block, Arneson and Konnor Wilinski. Mitch Stankowski returned to victory lane after some time away from the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division. Lucas Lamberies raced to his seventh local Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod victory of the year ahead of Tyler Sobiesczyk, who finished a career-best second.

Meyer resumes winning ways at Off Road

(Aug. 18) – In front of the largest crowd ever at Off Road Speedway, national Mach-1 Sport Compact point leader Ramsey Meyer returned to his winning ways with a narrow victory over Parker Vollbrecht on Saturday night. After starting at the back of the field, the two held a race-long battle for the lead before Meyer secured his 10th win in 11 nights at Norfolk. Jeremy Hoskinson, won his second straight IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. The victory was his third locally of the season and concluded a 15-lap race affected by several cautions, including one that forced the repeat of a green-white-checkered finish in which Hoskinson held off Cameron Wilkinson at the finish line. Eric Haase battled Karl Brewer for the lead during the first dozen laps of the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main before Brewer broke. Morris back to Maquoketa victory lane

By Rob Hinckley MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Aug. 18) – The jubilation was apparent as Jake Morris slammed his open hand repeatedly on top of his car. The long season became worth it after his 15-lap B&D Pit Stop IMCA Northern SportMod feature win on Back to School Night at Maquoketa Speedway Saturday evening. “Wow, it has been such a long year so this makes it worth it,” Morris said in victory lane. “Our luck has been bad and I can’t say enough about my sponsors and crew for hanging in there.” Morris ran in the top three the entire race, taking the lead for good on lap eight and beating Gage Neal, Jason Bahrs, Austin Heacock and Tyler Soppe to the checkered flag. The race went nonstop until a caution flew after the white flag and the race was called complete. Jones switches line in run to Tri-City checkers

By Roger Williams AUBURN, Mich. (Aug. 17) – Nate Jones won the Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified feature and unofficial track championship Friday at Tri-City Motor Speedway. A single point separated Jones and Matt Szecsodi going into the evening and their competition included A.J. Ward, looking to collect his 100th career IMCA feature win. The pair of title contenders started mid-pack and Will Small took control early before Jones, using the bottom groove, took the top spot on lap five. He continued to run the bottom groove while a hard-charging Ward found speed in the top line. Ward tracked down Jones and was poised to steal the lead before the caution flag flew. On the restart, Jones decided to run the high side. The move allowed Jones to pull away from Ward and to his seventh feature win of the 2018 season. The win, along with Szecsodi’s finish of fourth, gave Jones the unofficial season title.

Martens dominates URSS feature at Stockton

STOCKTON, Kan. (Aug. 17) – Jake Martens put in a stellar performance as he won his third United Rebel Sprint Series feature of the season, dominating Friday’s 20-lap main event at Stockton Speedway. Jake Bubak jumped into the lead and led the first two laps until a caution flew. On the restart, Martens slid Bubak in turn one, taking the lead and never looking back. Martens stretched his lead each lap to win by 10 car lengths over Bubak, Zach Blurton came and Jordan Knight. Scott Cochran, making his first appearance of the year with the Rebels, completed the top five. Berry drives from 11th at Dacotah

MANDAN, N.D. (Aug. 17) – Tom Berry Jr. drove from 11th starting to first at the finish of Friday’s IMCA Modified main event at Dacotah Speedway. Travis Tooley grabbed the initial lead but quickly had his hands full with the speedy Travis Peery, who took the front spot away before an early caution reset the field. Twelfth starting Jason Wolla then challenged Peery and passed for the lead on lap 13. Peery spun while battling Berry for second. Berry then held strong with Wolla. With only a few laps to go, Wolla’s car was starting to tighten up. Wolla had difficulty driving off the corners, which allowed Berry to close in. They briefly raced side-by-side before Berry took the lead with four laps to go. Berry cruised to victory over the defending national champion while 10th starting Shawn Strand finished third. Roach is first SportMod Mayhem repeat winner

(Aug. 18) – Mike Roach became the first repeat winner of Dodge City Raceway Park’s $1,000-to-win IMCA SportMod Mayhem event by racing to victory lane in Saturday night’s fifth annual event. Roach topped the 25-lapper from sixth starting after initially topping the event in 2015. He needed just four laps to race into second and then took the lead away from Jeff Kaup on the eighth circuit. Roach led the rest of the way to post his second consecutive victory at Dodge City with Brandon Kenney in tow after taking the second position from Kaup on the ninth lap. After topping last year’s SportMod Mayhem main, Dustin Daniels fell two positions short of going back-to-back by filling out the podium in third with Kaup and Blaine Walt rounding out the top five.
