Oaks soars to first win at Eagle

(May 12) – Steffen Oaks took the lead with four laps left en route to taking the first checkers of his ATV Motorsports IMCA Sport Compact career victory Saturday at Eagle Race­way. His drive to the front started outside row four. “It took me awhile to finally get a win, with several second places, but I finally got it!,” he said post-race. “It was a really fast track tonight, but man, those bumps about got me a few times. I managed to keep it straight and hold on for the win.” Casey Moyer won his first Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stock feature since the 2012 season and Lance Borgman raced from 10th starting to win the Purdue University IMCA Northern SportMod main event for the third time already this season at Eagle. Jordan Grabouski got the lead early in winning the Runner Freight IMCA Modified feature and Tyler Drueke took charge with nine laps remaining in winning the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car feature.

Lamberies now two for two at Shawano

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (May 12) – Lucas Lamberies hustled back from Iowa to race Saturday night at Shawano Speedway.  It proved to be a good move for the Clintonville teenager as he won his second Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature in a row to start the season. Kyle Raddant and then Jordan Barkholtz held the early lead.  By lap eight Lamberies moved to second on the track. On lap 13, Barkholtz got high in turn two and brushed the outside wall.  That was the opening Lamberies needed as he stormed past Barkholtz to take the top spot. Lamberies led the rest of the way for his second win in a row.  Barkholtz held on for second, followed by Jordan Bartz, Todd Wiese, and Raddant. Mike Mullen was the IMCA Modified winner and Travis Van Straten paced the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main.

Ward tops IMCA Modified main at Outlaw

By Paul Szmal DUNDEE, N.Y. (May 11) – Will Ward was the winner of a caution-free Friday night IMCA Modified fea­ture at Outlaw Speedway. Rodney Morgan got the lead in the 25-lapper after a battle with pole starter Todd Stone. There was a lot of battling behind Morgan as Brandon Smith moved into second and Ward charged past Phil Yaw for third. Just past halfway, Smith and Ward moved into first and second, respectively, and battled for the lead, with Ward making a strong pass coming to the white flag for the win.

Ryan captures Davenport IMCA Late Model checkers 

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 11) – Matt Ryan collected his first Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model feature win of the season at Davenport Speedway on Friday night. Ryan wrestled the lead from Chad Holladay on lap seven and led the rest to the checkers.  Lapped traffic and a caution flag gave Holladay a couple chances to get to Ryan’s bumper but he had to settle for second. Rob Toland finished a close third. Toland rolled to his second Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modified feature win of the season at Davenport. After an opening lap incident, Toland moved up to the front row for the restart.  That was all Rob needed. Toland sped away from the field and cruised to an easy victory. Bryce Garnhart finished second with Chris Zogg third. Dustin Schram won his first Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod feature this year. Andrew Burk edged out Brandon Setser for second.

Dolan, Phillips top Dale DeFrance Memorial headliners at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 10) – Ryan Dolan raced his way into the history book as the IMCA Late Model winner at Marshalltown Speedway’s inaugural Dale DeFrance Memorial. Dolan led all but the opening circuit in the 44-lapper and earned $1,500 for the Thursday night victory. Todd Cooney got the jump out front, early before relinquishing the top spot to Dolan, who maneu­vered his way around the shiny blackened track skillfully throughout the entire race, slicing through lap traffic easily to take the win. Kyle Hinrichs drew close to Dolan at times, but in end was a distant runner-up.  Cooney held on to third place, Jeremiah Hurst came from 12th to finish in fourth and Darrel DeFrance was fifth. Lange thunders to Kossuth County win

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (May 10) – Calvin Lange made the most thunder at the home of Thursday Night Thunder. Lang won the opening night feature for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars at Kossuth County Speedway after grab­bing the lead early and holding off early challenges by Jake Masters and Heath Tulp. After Masters bowed out, Derek Green and Chad Palmer joined the fracas, but Lange survived two cau­tion flags and a late run by Green for the victory. Both the IMCA Modified and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod mains features went green to checkered and the wins went to Jay Noteboom and Matthew Looft, respectively. Brandon Nielsen was the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock winner and Kaytee DeVries delivered the Mach-1 Sport Compact victory.

Dodge City Modified checkers fly for Gray

By Lonnie Wheatley DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 5) – Kevin Gray battled into the lead on the fifth circuit then held off Arizona’s R.C. Whitwell over the closing rounds to post his first local IMCA Modified win since August of 2015 on opening night Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park. Gray gridded the feature outside the front row, but it was pole starter Ryan Heger gunning into the lead at the drop of the green flag. Gray kept the heat on and raced back into the lead on the fifth lap. While Gray slipped away, Whitwell worked his way into second just past the mid­way point and closed in to challenge over the final circuits.  Whitwell poked his nose under Gray in turns three and four on the white flag lap and then took a shot on the high side on the final round, but Gray held steady to post the win. Whitman tops season opener at Shawano

(May 5) – One hundred forty-three racers were on hand to open the 2018 season at the Shawano Speedway on Saturday and Johnny Whitman won the IMCA Modified lidlifter for the second year in a row. Joey Taycher kicked off the Modified feature by grabbing the lead on lap one. Whitman took the top spot on lap two and instantly began to pull away while Mike Mullen and Marcus Yarie began working their way through the pack. By mid-race, Whitman had built up nearly a full straight away lead as Mullen moved to second on the track after a pass on Taycher. Lap after lap Whitman led as Mullen inched closer. Osborn wires IMCA Modified foes at Lincoln County

(May 5) –Taking off like a rocket from the onset, Colton Osborn was a man on a mission as he led every lap of the IMCA Modified feature to record the Saturday victory at Lincoln County Raceway. Osborn worked through lap traffic with no issues at all. Coming to the podium from his fourth row starting position, Cole Hodges earned runner-up accolades. Taking advantage of an outside second row starting position, Zach Schultz rode the cushion into the lead on the fourth lap and never looked back in winning the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod main. There were four different leaders in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Wauge wins Southern Oregon Speedway opener

By Don Martin II WHITE CITY, Ore. (May 5) – Taking the lead from Nick Trenchard, Mark Wauge went on to score the victory in the 25-lap IMCA Modified feature Saturday at Southern Oregon Speedway. The win paid Wauge $500 while Trenchard settled for a second place finish behind the multi-time track champion. Dave Duste Jr. made his first appearance in two seasons and led the first three laps ahead of James Welshonse. A low pass in on the fifth lap gained Welshonse the lead as Jeremy Ohlde followed him into second. Trenchard moved into third on lap eight. Welshonse’s great run up front ended as he pitted off the back stretch on lap nine. Ohlde had the lead at that point ahead of Trenchard and Wauge.
