Two in a row for Ward, Murty and Anderson

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (Aug. 4) – Three drivers matched last week’s trip to victory lane Friday at Marshalltown Speedway. Johnathon Logue returned to the winner’s circle in the IMCA Northern SportMod class. He started 12th in the line up, and was running a distant second to Adam Shelman, when a yellow with three laps remaining became the game changer. When the race restarted, Logue saw his chance and was able to move under Shelman and take the lead. The IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks came to the track next for their feature event, and it was a familiar face back in victory lane as Shannon Anderson took the win. Anderson started 10th and had to battle by stiff competitors to get to the front. Roberts races to Friday checkers at Stuart 

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (Aug. 4) – Nick Roberts mastered the IMCA Modified main event Friday at Stuart Speed­way. Scott Bash and Cory Sauerman led the field to green next with Sauerman ahead of Todd VanEaton early on. The top two stayed in formation until Roberts passed VanEaton on lap nine. One lap later, Roberts took over the lead and slowly checked out to take the win. Sauerman finished se­cond with Jeff James third. Lapped traffic helped Marcus Fagan’s cause as he caught Scott Bailey for the lead and eventual IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory. Austin Luellen led the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature from the sev­enth lap to the checkers. A three-way fight to the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock checkers went to Gregg Anderson. Curtis Miller blasted into the lead on lap two and checked out on the rest of the field to take the Mach-1 Sport Compact fea­ture win.

Long opens Summerfest with IMCA Modified win 

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (Aug. 3) – Michael Long took the lead on the eighth circuit and held off Cay­den Carter in the late going to win the IMCA Modified feature Thursday at Lee County Speedway. The Summerfest opening night checkers paid $1,000 and put Long on the ballot for the 2018 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational Abe Huls worked his way up from eighth starting to the $1,000 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers, besting Johnny Spaw and Damon Murty. Also working his way up from a mid-pack starting spot was Austen Becerra, who pocketed $1,000 for the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod victory. Carter VanDenBerg and Tony Dunker rounded out the top three. Josh Barnes topped the $300 to win Mach-1 Sport Compact main.

Marriott, Green, Nordman win big at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (Aug. 3) – Six-foot-tall trophies and $1,000 checks went to three IMCA winners at Kos­suth County Speedway’s county fair show Thursday night. Hunter Marriott made his first appearance at Algona and that was bad news for the other 20 IMCA Modi­fied drivers. Marriott built the comfortable lead each time and cruised to the easy Fast Shafts All-Star In­vitational ballot qualifying victory. Todd Shute was a distant second and Tim Ward placed third. The IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars had the most exciting race of the night as Bruce Wickman grabbed the early lead while Jake Masters stayed right on his bumper. Derek Green joined in the battle in lap number five as Chad Palmer made it a four-car breakaway for the lead one lap later. Wickman continued to hold the trio off but finally with four laps to go, Green wrestled the lead away and went onto his fourth feature win at the oval. Reception in victory lane convinces Alvarado his 100th win was “a big deal”

DELTA, Colo. – Ricky Alvarado didn’t realize the magnitude of his career 100th IMCA Modified win until he saw the reception waiting for him in victory lane. Alvarado collected the landmark checkers on July 29 at Montezuma County Fairgrounds Speedway. He’d been runner-up the night before at Cortez to Aaron Spangler, the only other Colorado driver to reach 100 wins in the division. “There were a lot of people who were all about this win. After I pulled into victory lane and saw their emotions, I realized what a big deal it was,” said Alvarado, from Delta. “None of us ever dreamed we’d pull this off. Slivinski Law Office Salute to the Military/Fan Appreciation Night at Port Royal and adult general admission is $10 for the evening race program. All veterans and active military personnel with proper ID receive free grandstand admission Saturday night and PASS American flag decals will be available to these honored guests.

 Student admission is $7. Beer Hill Cup shirts for sale and a number of shirts will be given away during the program. Jake Waters will be the guest announcer and have some special an­nouncements of upcoming events for the series.

Repeat winners Race to Cure on Juvenile Diabetes Night at Osky 

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (Aug. 2) – Wednesday at Southern Iowa Speedway was Juvenile Diabetes Awareness Night and the night saw returning visitors to victory lane Cayden Carter grabbed the lead early and pulled away to his fifth Musco Lighting IMCA Modified feature win of 2017. Nathan Wood was the third and final different leader in the Budweiser IMCA Stock Car main, earning his fourth local checkers of the season. Shannon Anderson won for the 12th time in as many starts in the KBOE Radio/Mahaska Bottling IMCA Hobby Stocks while Curtis Van Der Wal’s Oskaloosa True Value IMCA Northern SportMod victory was his 10th win of the season at Osky and seventh in a row. Trent Orwig notched Kelli Steil State Farm IMCA Sport Compact win number two on the season.

IMCA RaceSaver Sprints new to Front Row Challenge 

OSKALOOSA, Iowa – IMCA RaceRaver Sprint Cars have been added to the lineup at the Front Row Challenge at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa on Monday, Aug. 7. The feature will pay $750 to win, and in Front Row Challenge fashion there will be more contingencies for heat and feature winners. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Allstar Performance State points will be awarded. The 410 winner of this year’s Front Row Challenge will again bank $20,000, one of the highest one-day payouts in the country.  In addition to the big payday, this year’s winner will be awarded a golden ticket to both the Dirt Classic Ohio event at Attica Raceway Park Sept. 1 and 2 and the Dirt Classic 4 on Saturday, Sept. 23 at Lincoln Speedway near Abbottstown, Pa. Two IMCA Modified features at Lovelock’s Frontier Days 

LOVELOCK, Nev. – Two IMCA Modified features are on the schedule during Lovelock Speedway’s Friday and Saturday, Aug. 4-5 Frontier Days. Presenting the 40-lap features are the Nile Valley Race Club and Pershing County Rec Board. A field of 15 or more cars races for $750 to win on opening night while a field of 20 or more vies for $1,000 to win and a Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth on night two. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Racing Western Region, Allstar Performance State and track points are at stake both nights. Car and driver is $60 each day and pit passes are $25. Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $8 for sen­iors, military personnel and students ages 11-15, and free for kids 10 and under. From Bullring to Highbanks for URSS this weekend

LaCROSSE, Wis. – The United Rebel Sprint Series will go to extremes this weekend as they first visit the quarter mile Bullring at the Rush County Fairgrounds in LaCrosse, Kan., on Friday night and then pack up and head to the big half mile at the famed Belleville Highbanks Saturday to fill the card of the Belleville Midget Nationals Championship night. Leading the Rebels into the $500 to win show on Friday will be point leader Steven Richardson out of Liberal, who recently won the first night of the Wheatshocker Nationals in Hays. Looking for their first URSS win of the season will be Plainville’s Jed Werner who sits a mere 20 points be­hind in second and Quinter’s Zach Blurton, only two points behind Werner in third.
