Foster is first in Sunset Speedway Park opener

By Ben Deatherage BANKS, Ore. (May 6) – After the entire month of April was cancelled due to constant rain show­ers Sunset Speedway Park finally was able to record the first race of 2017 on Saturday. Bubba Foster opened up his winning account in his first SSP appearance of the campaign in the Budweiser IMCA Modified ranks. Shane Mills was the runner-up while Todd Newton, Kristi Somers and Craig Cassell completed the top five.

Winebarger gets Willamette win 

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (May 6) – The IMCA Modified ranks saw domination from Collen Winebarger Saturday at Willamette Speedway. The Corbett chauffeur took off with the coveted top spot and never looked back. It was Winebarger’s first Modified victory in 2017 at Willamette. Bricen James was second with John Campos behind him in third. The balance of the top five included Brad Martin and Dustin Cady.

That was close! Hiatt is IMCA Modified winner at Eagle

(May 6) – If you thought the finish of Saturday’s Kaplan University IMCA Modified feature at Eagle Raceway was a nailbiter, the electronic scoring was proof of just how close the top two cars were. Shane Hiatt passed Johnny Saathoff coming to the checkered flag and won by all of 64/1,000th’s of a second. “It’s been a while coming I guess, but it was a really exciting race. Johnny and I were working the bottom and he slipped up just a little bit,” Hiatt said. “I got beside him going into three, and I decided to not lift coming off of four and just nipped him at the line.” “We started sixth row inside so we had quite a ways coming up there,” he continued. “But our GRT chassis was working good. Speckman leads start to finish at Arlington opener

ARLINGTON, Minn. (May 6)  – Matt Speckman was super in a flag-to-flag run to the B&B Racing Chassis IMCA Stock Car feature, on opening night Saturday for the 37th season at Arlington Race­way. Speckman led the distance with Chad Schroeder on his tail throughout. Dean Cornelius and Dan Mackenthun traded spots a couple times with Cornelius taking third at the end and Matt Schauer getting around Mackenthun to take fourth at the finish. Clint Hatlestad topped the MN 93 IMCA Modified feature while 95.7 the Rock IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car checkers flew for Michael Stien. The Unhinged Pizza IMCA Northern SportMods saw two different leaders, Eric Bassett through the first seven circuits and Justin Remus the rest of the way. Shanteau captures Crystal feature 

CRYSTAL, Mich. (May 6) – Mike Shanteau took the early lead in Saturday’s Lane Automotive IMCA Modified feature event at Crystal Motor Speedway and then held off comers to take the win. Gary VanderMark, Myron DeYoung, Nick Stormzand, and John DeYoung all worked to over take the leader before finishing in that order behind him.

Noteboom notches Kossuth County lidlifter 

ALGONA, Iowa (May 4) – Jay Noteboom was the opening night IMCA Modified winner at Kossuth County Speedway. Noteboom slid past Tad Reutzel for the top spot following a restart and those two cars pulled away. Note­boom took the win with Reutzel right behind him in his yellow no. 5R rig. Tom Berry Jr. ended in third with Jeremy Mills fourth and Tim Ward rounding out the top five.  Justin Sack­ett moved up four spots as the feature’s hard charger while Shane Swanson and Noteboom won the two modified heat races. After taking the lead early, Elijah Zevenbergen never looked back in topping the IMCA Sunoco Stok Car main event. Colby Fett built up a big lead before weaving his way through lapped traffic to the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod checkers. Defending champion Shannon Anderson took the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock checkers and Nate Coop­man was fastest in a field of 18 Mach-1 Sport Compacts. Carlson captures Stock Car checkers at Boone 

BOONE, Iowa (May 6) – After last week’s rain out, it was back to Saturday night racing at the Boone Speedway. Two drivers took their second win in as many weeks while another driver, long absent from victory lane, stepped back into the winner’s circle. A driver who has been around the Boone Speedway for many laps finally was able to step into Victory Lane in the IMCA Stock Car class. Veteran racer Craig Carlson was elated to take the win af­ter many year’s absence. Josh Daniels finished in second, Justin Nehring was third, Donavon Smith came from deep in the starting field to finish fourth and Kevin Opheim rounded out the top five. Patience pays off for Arneson

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (May 6) – Lance Arneson proved what mom always said, that patience is a vir­tue, Saturday at Shawano Speedway. Like a lion stalking his prey, Arneson waited for the optimal moment to pounce, with a turn four pass for the lead on the final lap to win his first IMCA Modified feature of the year. Konnor Wilinski grabbed the lead on lap one as his dad Jerry moved to second. Arneson soon got past Jerry Wilinski to move to second. Konnor Wilinski and Arneson ran away and hid from the rest of the pack as they eventually had a near straight away advantage over third-running Jerry Wilinski. As Konnor Wilinski contin­ued to lead, Arneson stayed within a car length while sizing up the leader and patiently waiting to make a move. Long outlasts IMCA Modified foes at 141

By Marco and Dominic Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (May 6) – Josh Long outlasted all IMCA Modified challeng­ers in taking home the top prize on opening night at 141 Speedway. Luke Lemmens used his front row starting spot to jump up ahead of the pack and was rocking with Long moving along in second. Lemmens led the first five laps until Long passed with a move down low out of turn four. Long got a great jump following a lap 10 restart with Jeremy Jacobs flying from fifth to second. Long was able to keep Jacobs behind and pick up the opening night win along with the first place share of the purse and another $600 in lap leader money. Kyle Frederick was the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car winner and Ryan Lemieux paced the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods. Mike Meier made the pass for the win coming out of the final turn in the Mach-1 Sport Compact main. One hundred and forty cars saw action in the Saturday lidlifter at Francis Creek.

Bushnell takes Friday win at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (May 5) – Stuart Speedway kicked off season number 56 with Cory Bushnell capping the Friday show with the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car victory. Brothers Michael and Trent Murphy battled early for the lead with Josh Daniels third. Trent Murphy made it past his brother on lap nine to take the lead and at the halfway mark Bushnell was in fifth. Bushnell began to flex his muscles a lap later by disposing of Chris Pruitt and Michael Murphy. Lap 14 saw Bushnell pass Marcus Fagan and a lap later he took the lead by passing Trent Murphy. Bushnell would go on to the feature win over Fagan, Trent Murphy, Chris Pruitt and Michael Murphy. Nick Roberts held off Clint Luellen for the IMCA Modified victory and Chase Rudolf led the way to the Karl Chev­rolet Northern SportMod checkers. Jamie Schirm was the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock winner and John Gill led the distance in the Mach-1 Sport Compact headliner.
