Park Jefferson opens season with Jimmy Cole Night

JEFFERSON, S.D. – Park Jefferson Speedway will open its 2017 racing season on Saturday, April 8 with Salute to Jimmy Cole Night. Popular racer Cole is fighting cancer and this night will see Park Jefferson donate $1 from every ticket to his recovery fund. This night will also be the kickoff to the 2017 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season and thanks to fan donations, the IMCA Modified winner will earn $1,255 along with a berth of the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Second place in the Modified feature pays $555. Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks will run for $355 to win and the Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $155 to win. Pellegrini family adds top five bonuses for Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series opener

By Erika Palmai Wagner BRIDGEPORT, N.J. – In honor of their family patriarch, the family of Craig Pellegrini Jr., the driver of the no. 27 Mid-Atlantic Sprint Series IMCA Racesaver Sprint Car, has graciously chosen to sponsor top five finishers in the season opener at Bridgeport Speedway on April 30 in memory of Albert A. Fronsman, Stafford are Canyon IMCA winners

(April 2) – George Fronsman captured his fifth victory of the season in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division while Bradley Stafford took home his third IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock win in a row at Canyon Speedway Park on Saturday night. The Stock Cars once again put on one of the best races of the evening. After picking up his first win of the season two weeks ago at the Shamrock Showcase, Cody Center jumped out to the early lead. Behind him the battle raged as Justin Thornton battled Fronsman throughout the first half of the race. Fronsman continued to apply the pressure until he was finally able to make a pass to the inside in the late stages of the race. Leraas leads last in Virginia Sprint Series opener

(April 1) – A cool evening greeted fans on opening night and Mike Leraas cooled off the rest of the Virginia Sprint Series field to take the feature win Saturday at Shenandoah Speedway. Glenn Worrell and Leraas paced the IMCA RaceSaver main event field to green and it was Worrell out first with Leraas, Tony Harris and Jerald Harris all in a group at the front. Laps clicked off fast as Leraas was making the high line work. He went to the front on lap 15 just as Worrell was fading. The Harris brothers went by Worrell also and Tony went on the attack. Sprint Series of Oklahoma reschedules Longdale show

By David Smith Jr. LONGDALE, Okla. – Saturday night’s event at Longdale Speedway for the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Series of Oklahoma presented by Smiley’s Racing Products and the United Rebel Sprint Series Myers Racing Engines national was canceled because of rain. Track and series officials have rescheduled this combined event for Saturday, Aug. 26. The next event for the Sprint Series of Oklahoma will be held Friday, April 21, at Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, for the second of seven races scheduled at the speedway. In the season opener on March 25, it was Wichita Falls, Texas driver Chad Koch getting the best of a 31-car field to capture his first-ever series victory.

VINTON, Iowa – The Sunday, April 2 World Nationals Hangover at Benton County Speedway has been canceled. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods all run at Vinton during the Thursday, April 6 Frostbuster.

Dirtfest rained out at Salina

SALINA, Kan. – Citing a week of torrential rains and no drying opportunities, officials at the Salina Speedway have canceled this weekend’s DirtFest special. With no other options on race weekends before area tracks begin their seasons, the event will not be re-scheduled.

West Liberty Raceway to hold pre-season open practice

By Jerry Mackey WEST LIBERTY, Iowa – The West Liberty Raceway located on the Muscatine County Fairgrounds, will kick off the stock car racing season this Saturday, April 1 with an open practice session for all drivers planning on racing on Saturday nights at one of the longest running dirt tracks in the state of Iowa. The pit gates will open at 11 a.m. with practice slated to take the green flag at 1 p.m. Grandstand admission will be free although there will be a charge to get into the pits to cover insurance costs. All drivers will have plenty of opportunities to dial their new cars in for the opening event of the season which will be held Saturday, April 8 as the Deery Brothers Summer Series will come to town. Gregg too tough in IMCA Modified feature at Junction’s Chapin Memorial Spring Thaw

McCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. (March 18-19) – Once the green flag flew, Justin Gregg knew he had the car to beat in Sunday’s Mike Chapin Memorial Spring Thaw main event at Junction Motor Speedway. When the checkers came out, he had the $1,000 check to prove it. Gregg led all 25 circuits in the Fast Shafts All-Star ballot qualifier. Jacob Anson repeated his second-place showing from the Saturday feature and Jordy Nelson, Dylan Smith and Anthony Roth rounded out the top five. “I got lucky and started on the pole and knew on the first lap that we were going to be tough to beat,” said Gregg. “We were going through the corners really well.” The only caution came with four laps left and no one had anything for the leader after that.
