West Liberty Raceway hosts rescheduled Modified Extravaganza

By Jerry Mackey WEST LIBERTY, Iowa – The racing program at the West Liberty Raceway fell victim to the se­vere weather that passed through the Muscatine County Fairgrounds Saturday night. The Modified Extravaganza has been rescheduled for this Saturday, April 22. The race program will be headlined by IMCA Modifieds battling it out on the half-mile dirt track gunning for the $1,200 first place prize money and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational berth. In addition to the IMCA Modifieds, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Mach-1 Sport Compacts will all be racing for expanded purses. Saturday night’s program will get underway with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. followed by racing action at 7 p.m. The West Liberty Raceway regular season opener will be Saturday, April 29, which will feature all the above race divisions plus the high-powered IMCA Late Models.

Family, not feature wins or fame, become Gould’s biggest accomplishment in racing 

CALERA, Okla. – Ronny Gould has gotten more than feature wins and fame from racing. He’s gotten a family. Now driving an IMCA Sunoco Stock Car in his home state of Oklahoma, Gould was promoting the for­mer Lake Country Speedway a dozen years ago when he let a group of kids from a local church camp in to the races free one night. “Everything we do kind of goes back to racing,” says Gould. “I was promoting Ardmore when we let those kids in, they sent thank you’s and my wife Kelly said we could help some of them, so we became foster parents for the State of Oklahoma.” The Goulds have since fostered more than 70 children and adopted seven of their own, who now range in age from 22 to 3 … sons Scott, Charlie, Ryder, Shay, Olyn and Derek, and daughter Dan­ica. “The best part has been watching them learn and grow. Dancer wows Lincoln County crowd

(April 8) – The racing action was red hot on opening night at Lincoln County Raceway and starting the season off right by parking their hot rods in the winners circle were Jeremy Frenier, Dillon Schultz, Mikey Dancer, Luke Wassom and Andrew Baumgardner. In one of the most exciting features of the evening, Dancer wowed his hometown crowd by winning the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature. Dancer led the initial 11 laps before relinquishing the lead to Jeff Whiting for the following six laps. When the white flag flew, Dancer saw an opening and drove back into the lead where he stayed for the final two laps to win. Frenier led the last five laps to win the IMCA Modified feature. Frenier started in the fourth row and found the racing groove around the bottom of the oval to make the pass for the lead through traffic in the final 10 laps. Harris flies to first Virginia Sprint Series checkers of season 

WAYNESBORO, Va. (April 8) – The first Virginia Sprint Series dirt race of the season proved to be a fast one and Jerald Harris proved to be the fastest in the Saturday field at Eastside Speed­way. New clay greeted the IMCA RaceSaver Sprinters, who took advantage of the two racing lines. Chris Ware and Anthony Linkenhoker paced the field as the green waved with Ware out first and looking strong. Harris made the high line work for him as he clicked off passes and made his way to the front on lap ten. Harris continued to lead as Scott Lutz made it to second. Daren Bolac started to slow with mechanical troubles as Tom Humphries went by, but nobody had anything for Harris as he flashed under the waving checkered flag. Cordes grabs $1K at Independence Spring Break Opener

By Bucky Doren INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (April 8) – Troy Cordes kicked off his 2017 racing season at the Independence Motor Speedway with a $1,000 payday winning the Spring Break Opener on April 8, 2017. Cordes moved into the lead during the IMCA Modified main event on lap three. Mark Schulte applied heavy pressure in the closing laps but it was Cordes, already on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot, who was first to the checkered flag during the 25-lap feature. Schulte settled for second. Scott Hogan raced in the top five all night and finished third. IMCA Hobby Stocks, Northern SportMods new at North Dakota’s Thunder Mountain Speedway

BOTTINEAU, N.D. – IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod drivers will chase points on eight Thursday nights this season at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Bottineau. “We’re getting some interest from drivers in both divisions looking to race another night for national and state points,” said promoter Jason Laducer. “We been WISSOTA sanctioned and in keeping in line with other tracks in the area decided to go with IMCA.” Race nights on the 2017 schedule at Thunder Mountain are May 4 and 18, June 8 and 22, July 20 and 27, and Aug. 3 and 17. “These divisions are good transitions for younger drivers to what we consider entry level divisions,” Laducer said. “Once the Hobby Stock and SportMod divisions are established, our eventual goal is to have special events for IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars.” The all-volunteer Thunder Mountain Speedway Association is already getting the ¼-mile dirt oval ready for opening night and Laducer said “a few unique local sponsorships” are in place for the upcoming season. Montezuma County readies for IMCA Stock Car Rumble In The Rockies 

CORTEZ, Colo. – Big paydays for IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars are on the line both nights of Montezuma County Fairgrounds Speedway’s season-opening Rumble In The Rockies special. The Friday, April 21 feature pays $750 to win while a top prize of $1,000 is on the line on Saturday, April 22. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, EQ Cylinder Heads Southern Region, Allstar Performance State and track points will be given both nights. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 7 p.m. with racing at dusk. Pit passes are $30 and pill draw is $20. The Spring Break Season Opener features a $1,000 to win payday for IMCA Modifieds. Gates will open at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 8 with hot laps slated for 6 p.m. Spectator admission is $15 and pit passes are $25. On the card in addition to IMCA Modifieds are IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. JEFFERSON, S.D. – Park Jefferson Speedway will open its 2017 racing season on Saturday, April 8 with Salute to Jimmy Cole Night. Popular racer Cole is fighting cancer and this night will see Park Jefferson donate $1 from every ticket to his recovery fund.
