Heartland Park Topeka checkers fly for Fuqua

TOPEKA, Kan. (May 1) – On a night that was less than perfect, one of the best features of the early season occurred Sunday night at the 2nd Big Time Bail Bonds Sunday Night Showdown at Heartland Park Topeka. In the BillsBuilt Race Cars IMCA Modified feature it was a full-blown battle. Jared Rogers jumped out to the lead and would hold on for a majority of the laps but a yellow changed the complexion of the race. Following the restart, Jordan Grabouski took a slim lead over Rogers going into the first turn late in the race. Rogers fought back hard on the inside, but as the two exited turn two Darron Fuqua threaded the needle with a pass for the lead in the middle and it stuck. Once Fuqua got to the front of the pack he wouldn’t be denied. The multi-time track champion at Heartland Park Topeka took home win number one under the IMCA banner. Last week, Dustin Thulin pulled out for the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature only to have [Read More]

Ward keeps Tri-City streak alive

AUBURN, Mich. (April 29) – A.J. Ward raced to his second Main Street Seed and Supply IMCA Modified feature wins in as many starts this season Friday at Tri-City Motor Speedway. Defending track champion Myron DeYoung, and Tanner Pray paced the field of 20 to the green. DeYoung grabbed a straightaway advantage before he caught the back of the field by the halfway point of the 20-lapper. Ward worked his way to the back bumper of DeYoung before the caution flew for a spun car on lap thirteen. This set up the duel fans have seen frequently over the past few years between Ward and DeYoung. On the first restart, Craig Vance, running third, lost control in turn two and collected a number of top drivers. This set up another restart for the final seven laps. DeYoung and Ward swapped the lead three times on the first lap back to green flag racing, but Ward would prove to be too much as he took his second feature in a row to start the season. DeYoung, [Read More]

Van Straten wins again at Shawano

By Scott Owen SHAWANO, Wis. (April 30) – A hardy crowd turned out to see 132 competitors duke it out on the venerable Shawano Speedway half mile Saturday night. Brian Mullen and Kevin Bethke each won their first local feature of the year while Travis Van Straten won his second in a row. Kevin Feck took off like a rocket at the start of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified feature while venerable Jerry Muenster moved into second. Eighth starter Mullen worked his way up to third by lap five, before a scary incident on the front stretch slowed the pace and eliminated numerous cars from the race. Once the race went back to green, Mullen passed Muenster and set his sights on Feck. Mullen got to the inside of Feck on lap eight to take the lead away. Feck soon pulled to the pits, moving Lance Arneson to second. Arneson, who had started 14th, pestered the leader for the duration but Mullen was not to be denied on his way to victory lane. Matt Oreskovich finished third. Top honors at Topeka go to Haid

TOPEKA, Kan. (April 24) – The era of IMCA Racing got underway Sunday night as Heartland Park Topeka played host to opening night and a total of 82 cars checked in to battle it out in four divisions. One of the most exciting races of the night happened in the Cars 4 Less IMCA Stock Car division. Bryan Rigsby, who has multiple feature wins at HPT, jumped out to the early lead but would saw his car fade as a problem developed. This problem for Rigsby would be a big gain for Matt Haid. Haid had been keeping pace with Rigsby and was ready to pounce on the moment. Haid took the lead and never looked back. Jim Powell Jr. and Dominic Thyfault gave him a run for his money, but Haid was just too tough on this night as he went on to the opening night win.
