New location for 10-year-old’s lemonade stand helps boost funds raised for Salute to Veterans

ALGONA, Iowa – IMCA fans and drivers will stand and applaud hundreds of the men and women who have served their country in the armed forces, during Hunting With Heroes Salute to Veterans race programs next week in Spencer, Algona and Boone. Another one of the people who will deserve a big salute is Toryn Kleen. The 10-year-old and fifth grader-to-be at Algona Middle School raised $3,206 to contribute to the annual veterans’ endeavor, selling lemonade along with cookies and cupcakes at a stand set up near Mike Hauan’s Lake Mills Motorsports Polaris dealership in Algona. “I feel like veterans are under appreciated,” said Toryn, whose grandfathers and a great-grandfather all served in uniform. “This is something I can do for them.” Toryn had donated the more than $2,300 she made selling lemonade and sweet treats from a stand at her home and was recognized with a special Top Gun Fund Raiser award last year. Nielsen wins Weishaar Memorial race

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (July 20, 2023) – Brandon Nielsen was the big winner of the $1,000 Jess Weishaar IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock Memorial race held Thursday at Kossuth County Speedway. Aaron Rudolph and Josh Sidles brought the 22-car field to flag stand to take the green flag in the final race of the night as they raced for the $1,000 first place check in honor resident and race fan Jess Weishaar, slain in a 2019 bank robbery. Rudolph edged ahead after the first trip around the Algona oval as Josh Sidles and Rudolph went door-to-door the first five laps for the lead in the feature. The caution flag appeared on six and Mike Smith grabbed the lead off the restart, but that only lasted three laps as Nielsen became the new leader at the halfway point of the 20-lap feature race. McBirnie takes Highbanks after the Creek Stock Car win

Night at the Races Friday and Jake McBirnie raced to the $2,000 Highbanks After the Creek IMCA Sunoco Stock Car win on at Marshalltown Speedway.  Jake McBirnie led the field to green for the contest and that was all she wrote, as he paced all 30 laps on his way to victory lane and B & B Racing Chassis All-Star qualifying eligibility. McBirnie was chased most of the distance by Chelsea Charger Damon Murty, but on this night Murty had to be satisfied with the runner-up spot. ‘A bunch of people working together’ get free fuel for RaceSaver Nationals drivers

EAGLE, Neb. (July 21, 2023) – What promoter Roger Hadan summed up as the efforts of “a bunch of people working together” will help fuel competitors at the upcoming RaceSaver Nationals. Next Sunoco Race Fuels bonuses awarded at US 30, East Moline

COLUMBUS, Neb. (July 19, 2023) – Division title sponsor Sunoco Race Fuels awards $250 bonuses at two upcoming IMCA Late Model race nights, Thursday at US 30 Speedway and Sunday at East Moline Speedway. The July 20 show at Columbus, Neb., was postponed following a rainout last week. Drivers can receive the bonus one time in a season so the $250 would be given to the top finishing non-winning driver any night the winner has already earned the bonus at another track. Gates open at 5 p.m. at Columbus, where hot laps are at 7:15 p.m. and racing follows. AMARILLO, Texas – IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car drivers will have Amarillo on their mind come Saturday, July 29. The Rick Lovelady Carpets Inc.-presented feature that evening will bring RaceSaver competitors from across Texas and neighboring states straight to Route 66 Motor Speedway for a $2,000 to win, minimum $200 to start main event. Racing on the 3/8-mile clay oval at Amarillo begins at 7 p.m. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $8 for kids. Ryan wraps up two-win weekend with IMCA checkers at Antioch

(July 15, 2023) – Jason Ryan Jr. won his second Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature of the weekend Saturday, holding off Mark Garner for the checkers at Antioch Speedway. With a front row start, rookie Billy Garner bolted into the lead when the green flag flew, pursued by his father Mark. Ryan, also first Friday at Ocean Speedway, settled into third and took up pursuit. Ryan and the elder Garner went side by side for several laps before a low pass in turn four of the 11th lap gained Ryan second as Garner pushed too high. Billy Garner continued to lead the way until an inside pass on lap 14 gained Ryan the lead. Mark Garner passed Billy second before a yellow flag waved on lap 18. Ryan maintained his cool on the restart and held off Mark Garner for the victory. Billy Garner impressed with a third place finish, followed by Kelly Campanile and Trevor Clymens. Heffner joins list of 2023 PASS winners

(July 15, 2023) – Kenny Heffner came out on top of a fierce, three-way battle for the lead Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway, re-taking the top spot from Zach Rhodes with two laps to go to win the 20-lap feature for the River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Series. Veteran Roger Irvine, who led early in the race and was the other racer in the fight for victory, came home third. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car barnburner had a story for each of the drivers seeking the win. For Heffner, the victory was his career fourth and third at Port Royal, but his first since joining with former PASS regular Cale Reigle as car owner.
