Cole ends drought at Tri-State

By Rob Nugent POCOLA, Okla. (June 13) – While the story of the night elsewhere was rain, Tate Cole was ending a personal drought Saturday at Tri-State Speedway. The Fort Gibson flyer returned to his winning ways with his fourth victory after a two month drought. Chris Lewis finished second while Dallas Bourland crossed the line in third. The IMCA SportMod feature saw Kayden Menasco pick up his second feature win of the season ahead of Ken McCarty and Gerry Vaughn.

Artz becomes fifth different IMCA RaceSaver winner at I-90

By Steve Zwemke HARTFORD, S.D. (June 13) – T.J. Artz sped to his first career feature win Saturday night at I-90 Speedway, leading all 20 laps of the Coffee Cup IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car main event. Casey Abbas gradually reeled Artz in over the first half of the race and then spent the second half throwing everything his way but the kitchen sink. Abbas tried high and low while Artz held to the low groove to outduel has challenger. Though the RaceSaver sprint cars are new to I-90 Speedway this year, there has been no predicting a winner as Artz is the fifth different in as many weeks of racing.

Four first-time winners at RPM

By Mike Hughes HAYS, Kan. (June 13) – Saturday’s race program saw four first-time winners at Rolling Plains Motor Speedway. In the S & W Supply IMCA Modified feature, Corey Lagroon led the first two laps before Jeremy Zorn took over the top spot in what proved to be a caution-free 20-lapper. Tenth starting Dylan Sherfick slowly worked his way through the field and used lapped traffic to his advantage to get by Zorn on lap 18 to take the lead and hold on for the win. Steven Bowers Jr. finished third. Jeff Tubbs held off a hard-charging Chad Sterling for top honors in the Advantage Glass Plus IMCA Stock Car feature. Trevor Schmidt led the first four laps before the first caution waved. On the restart, Tubbs passed Schmidt to take the lead. Schmidt stayed close and passed Tubbs on lap 11, but that was short lived as Tubbs regained the lead on lap 13 and held on for a trip to the winner’s circle. First IMCA win comes at Coos Bay for Martin

By Ben Deatherage COOS BAY, Ore. (June 15) – The third night of the 2015 Wild West Modified Shootout ended with a third different driver in victory lane. Brad Martin got the best of the Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified field at Coos Bay Speedway, taking the $1,000 checkers and Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot berth despite the best efforts of Danny Lauer. The win was Martin’s IMCA career first. Thirty-three drivers from eight states and Canada vied at Coos Bay. Martin drew the pole and maintained the lead following a handful of cautions throughout the first 10 laps. As the green flag run continued, he started to catch up with the back of the pack. While struggling to handle traffic, Martin had to fight off the ultra fast Lauer. Lauer beat Martin to the line on lap 27 but couldn’t secure the position. Antioch win by Wilson comes in front of bumper bending

ANTIOCH, Calif. (June 13) – Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified winner Kyle Wilson maintained his position up front from early in the event to avoid all the bumper-bending that was going on behind him Saturday at Antioch Speedway. It was a night of fender benders in the main event as the division that had little crashing all season made up for it with two multi-car pileups juggling the field on restarts. Several caution flags flew, with two key pauses changing the outcome of the race. With six laps to go, leader Shawn DeForest bogged down in turn one, with cars behind him banging into each other to bring out the caution. With three to go, Scott Busby got too far sideways with cars again scrambling on the track. Raceway Park checkers wave for Thies

By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, S.D. (June 14) – After three straight rainouts, action returned to the high banks at Raceway Park Sunday night. The Total Motors IMCA Modified feature got off to a wild start with a 10-car pile up in the third turn that brought an early halt to the action. When racing got back under way, Jim Thies roared to the win over point leader Bob Moore and defending champion Chris Abelson. Ryan Harris got to the front early in the Casey’s General Store IMCA Stock Car feature and never looked back, taking the win over Chad Allen and Jason Ward. Defending champion Andy Hoffman held off a hard-charging Jake McClure to score the win in the MOPAR IMCA Hobby Stocks. Dave Riley took the third spot. Another defending champion took the win in the Skyline Casino IMCA Sport Mod main event. Todd Boulware shot to the front early and held off Kaleb Kennedy and Darin Roepke for the victory. Jones earns fifth win of season at Britt

By Greg Grabianowski BRITT, Iowa (June 13) – Devin Jones of Clear Lake earned win number five in the Mach-1 Sport Compact division Saturday at Hancock County Speedway. Jacob Kofoot was the runner-up in the feature with Kaytee DeVries third. Chanse Hollatz picked up his second IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock victory of the season at the track, holding off the challenges of Cody Nielsen and Kyle Ricke. Shane Swanson survived a number of late-race caution flags, holding off Nick Meyer and Kyle Germundson to win his first Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature since opening night. A two-car breakaway in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division between Blake Cole and Kevin Opheim came down to a restart. Opheim got the best of Cole when the race returned to green and went on to become the ninth different winner in the division this season at Britt. Roberts, Pruitt score $1,000 wins at Stuart

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (June 14) – Nick Roberts and Josh Pruitt were $1,000 feature winners in front of a packed house Sunday at Stuart Speedway. Roberts topped the rescheduled 15th annual Ron Little/Bones Memorial for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds, earning a spot on the ballot for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. Pruitt paced the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars’ Stew Hansen Dodge Shootout event. Jacob Murray squeezed through to take the early Modified lead. Three early cautions slowed the pace but once the green flew again, Murray stayed ahead of Roberts and Todd Shute with Luke Wanninger lurking around the bottom of the track in fourth. Lap 15 saw Wanninger get past Shute for third. Roberts began to gain ground on the bottom and on lap 19 snagged the top spot. Porter prevails in Arlington Modified main

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 13) – Chad Porter picked up his first feature win of the season in the MN 93 IMCA Modified feature Saturday at Arlington Raceway. Jeff Coon led the first three laps but spun out and relinquished the lead to Porter. He was half a lap ahead of the rest of the field at the end of the race. Clint Hatlestad took second, passing Billy Johnson on the white flag lap. Andrew Westphal took the lead from the pole in the 95.7 the Rock IMCA Sprint Car feature and led the first nine laps with Kyle Sargent on his tail. Westphal encountered engine problems, pulling into the infield and giving the lead and win to Sargent, his first in the division. Jordan Wilmes was second and Gary Serbus was third. The B&B IMCA Stock Car feature saw six different leaders. The early leader was pole sitter Dave Moriarty. On lap four, Brent Reierson passed Moriarty but hot on his tail was Dean Cornelius. Peery scores huge Wild West Shootout win at Siskiyou

By Ben Deatherage YREKA, Calif. (June 14) – A quick decision late in the race paid off for Travis Peery. Originally from nearby Fort Jones, the North Dakota transplant won Sunday’s Wild West Modified Shootout feature at Siskiyou Motor Speedway. Peery started outside pole but the $1,000 Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modified victory was sealed until he made a split second decision and chose the right lane that took him through lapped traffic with two circuits left. After taking the lead at the drop of the green, Peery set a rapid pace interrupted only by cautions on laps 15 and 18. The second yellow involved Colorado pilot Ryan Gaylord, running second at the time. He spun into the infield and the second spot was inherited by North Dakota chauffeur Troy Heupel. Heupel nearly caught Peery on a couple occasions but each time Peery was able to pull away.
