Gustins are among Marshalltown feature winners

By Jeremy Fox MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 1) – Team Gustin took home two feature wins Friday night at Mar­shalltown Speedway. Jimmy Gustin and Trent Jackson started on the front row of the Coors Light IMCA Modified fea­ture and it was Gustin grabbing the lead. He was comfortable out front before the only race cau­tion was displayed on lap eight for debris. Adam Larson took second away from Joel Rust and set his sights on the leader. Gustin, however, de­nied those challenges to take his 88th career win in the division and first at Marshalltown since April 26, 2013. Brian Irvine worked his way from 10th to third. Brandon Williams took the early lead in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature, then gave way to Ryan King on lap five. King pulled away and appeared to be going on to take his first win at Marshalltown even with lapped traffic ahead but the caution came out with three circuits left. Ryan dominates Davenport opener 

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 1) – Davenport Speedway jump-started the 2015 point season in a big way on Friday night as 124 racers took part in the Koehler Electric sponsored season opener. In the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model action, Matt Ryan dominated the field. Ryan started on the pole and led all 25 laps despite a couple of late cautions. Ray Guss Jr., Andy Nezworski, and Jay Johnson all took turns in the runner-up position before Guss secured the spot. Nezworski finished third. Tony Von Dresky topped a huge field of Milan Heating and Air IMCA Modifieds. Rich Smith led the first four laps. Bruce Hanford used the high side to take the lead on lap five. On lap seven, Von Dresky used the very bottom of the racetrack to get by Hanford and set sail for victory lane. Hanford held on to finish second. Mitch Morris ran third. Season opener at Kossuth County Speedway 

By Greg Grabianowski ALGONA, Iowa (April 30) – No one had the answer to hometown hotshoe Austin Wolf as he cruised to a green, white, checkered finish in the feature in Thursday’s season-opening IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature at Kossuth County Speedway. Pole starter Mike Jergens was the runner-up with Tim Ward third. David Wickman earned his first win of the season in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars. Kevin Opheim finished second followed by Chad Palmer. Colby Fett drew the pole for the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature and turned that plum position into a victory. Ben Schultze ended up in second place with Clay Evans taking third. Brandon Nielsen steered his number T8 rig across the finish line first in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature. Jeremy Wegner was the runner-up while Drew Barglof placed third. Edge goes to Carter in photo finish at Osky

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (April 29) – Cayden Carter was first to the checkers in a three-wide Bud­weiser IMCA Stock Car photo finish Wednesday at Southern Iowa Speedway. A late caution set the stage for the green, white, checkered ending. Zack VanderBeek was a very close second and Nathan Wood was right behind in third. Daniel Hilsabeck and VanderBeek had battled for the early lead while Wood and Carter jousted for third. VanderBeek grabbed the top spot on lap 10 and Carter and Wood got by Hilsabeck for second and third place, respectively, on lap 11. That’s where it really got exciting as VanderBeek, Carter and Wood got into a three-car battle. Andrew Schroeder earned the Musco Lighting IMCA Modified win ahead of Carter. National points leader notches another win at Antioch

ANTIOCH, Calif. (April 25) – National points leader Fred Ryland posted his 12th Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod win of the season Saturday at Antioch Speedway. Ryland passed his wife Patti, and Chuck Golden after a seventh lap restart. Golden maintained second as Paul Mulder worked his way up to third before the finish. Patti Ryland and Al Sotomayor comprised the rest of top five. “The engine was just not running right in the heat race,” Ryland said in victory lane. “Our crew got the problem fixed just in time for the feature.”

Hancock County checkers fly for Ruter

By Greg Grabianowski BRITT, Iowa (April 25) – Ryan Ruter earned IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified win number three on the season Saturday at Hancock County Speedway. Troy Swearingen took second and Adam Larson was third. One hundred and nineteen cars filled the pits at Britt, among them 30 Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, 25 Modifieds and 25 IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Dustin Larson made the journey from Worthington, Minn., worthwhile by taking the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car checkers.  Kevin Opheim was the runner-up and David Wickman was third. Clay Evans won the Northern SportMod main event, topping Greg Sidles and Nick Meyer. Justin Nehring won the Hobby Stock feature followed by Cody Nielsen and Jeremy Wegner. Kaytee DeVries edged out husband Jay for the win in the Mach-1 Sport Compact feature. Jacob Kofoot ended up third.

Schneiders tops Modified main at Raceway Park

By Bob Coney JEFFERSON, S.D. (April 26) – Raceway Park kicked off their 2015 IMCA Championship points season Sunday night with action in five divisions. The Total Motors IMCA Modifieds put on a show ultimately won by Jason Schneiders. Ricky Stephan jumped out front in the early laps only to be chased down by defending champion Chris Abelson. After trading the lead back and forth, the duo came together while negotiating lapped traffic with seven laps remaining, sending both to the rear on the restart. Jim Thies then took the point with Jay Noteboom and Schneiders in tow. With four to go, Schnei­ders made his move out of turn number four, slicing under Thies and using the inside line to hold Noteboom at bay to the checkers. Behind Schneiders, Noteboom, and Thies, Josh Most rounded out the top four. The Casey’s General Stores IMCA Stock Car feature was a wild affair with Andy Gage coming out on top, followed by Tony Ritterbush, Todd Gereau and Bo Lundquist. Patterson makes it 3-for-3 at Tri-State

By Rob Nugent POCOLA, Okla. (April 25) – Saturday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature at Tri-State Speedway saw Chris Patterson take home the winner’s money for the third time in a row. Dalton Ragsdale finished second and Kris Vaughn was third. Aaron Scroggins picked up his second feature win of the season in the IMCA SportMods while Ken McCarty and Todd Broyles rounded out the top three. The IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature completed the night’s racing with Casey Lindell taking home the big money over Tate Cole and Brent Holman. The May 2 program at Pocola features the eighth annual Danny Martinez Jr. Memorial plus Law Enforcement, EMTs and Firefighters night.

Record Modified car count for Electric City, Spring Roundup 

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (April 25) – A record number of Modifieds and the division’s first-ever ‘B’ feature at Electric City Speedway drew their share of headlines at Saturday’s Spring Roundup. North Dakota travelers Travis Peery and Jason Wolla ran 1-2 in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main event as long tows complemented a stellar contingent of home state drivers. Twenty-seven Modifieds, the most in the 26 years the division has run at Great Falls, were on hand for the season-opening special. “There have been a lot of Modifieds around us but we were on an island. Gustin makes late pass for victory at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (Apr. 26) – Jenae Gustin used a pass in the final corner to earn top Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod honors Sunday night at Benton County Speedway. Tony Olson held the lead at the drop of the green in the 20-lapper before Clint Luellen took command following a lap five restart. Meanwhile, Gustin was working through the field from a fifth row start and settled into second just past the midway point. With Luellen navigating through slower traffic, Gustin was able to chip away at the lead in the waning laps. Running the top side throughout the event, Gustin was forced to the low groove in traffic and was able to challenge Luellen for the lead late. Gustin and Luellen went three-wide with a lapped car exiting four on the final circuit with Gustin able to inch ahead at the line to score the victory. Luellen ran second ahead of Colby Heishman.
