Lucas Parsons kept things interesting to take second but could not pass Monson and Charles Prime finished in third place. Looft had to work much harder to get his second Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod win of the season, coming from the outside of the fifth row for the win. Polesitter Alex Smith held the lead the first part of the race. The caution flag appeared on lap six and was followed by another yellow flag off the restart. Sites wins wild one at Woodhull

By Paul Szmal WOODHULL, N.Y. (May 20, 2023) – After day-long rains, nobody expected racing to happen at the 1/3 mile Woodhull Raceway for the 2023 Close Racing Supply NY-Penn IMCA Modified Series presented by M.R. Grafix. But the persistence of the track crew in not giving up and prepping the surface meant racing did happen, and Eddie Sites won his second Friesen Performance IMCA Modified series event of the season in a wild finish. Gary Roberts and Shawn Bruce brought the field to the green for the 25-lap feature event, with Roberts spinning in turn  one, collecting Sites and Rodney Morgan. Rich Michael Jr. took the lead on the restart as Bruce battled with Tyler Stoddard for third. Sites outdragged Michael on a lap three restart but the yellow flew for Brad Sites spinning on lap five to bunch the field once again. Morgan had a front end issue to bring out the next caution and Jake Maynard snagged third from Tyler Stoddard before another yellow for Jacob McConell’s spin in turn four. Haney, Williams win first features at Eagle

By Greg Soukup EAGLE, Neb. (May 20, 2023) – It would be hard to top Saturday for a fantastic way to spend an evening out! Armed Forces Night at Eagle Raceway saw a big crowd, a pit full of cars and the best racing so far this year. Drivers battled two- and sometimes three-wide on the high banks, keeping everyone on the edge of their seats. Dylan Haney snagged the lead on the last lap in winning his career-first IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature ahead of Gary Laflin and Jeremy Down. “I ran third pretty much most of the race, finally got to second and had five or six laps to chase the leader down. Then I flatfooted it right through there,” said Haney. “It was probably the happiest I’ve ever been racing.” Noah Williams snagged the lead on lap six of the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature and took the checkers a straightaway ahead of Joe Feyen. Third was Adam Armstrong. “I’ve been racing here for five years in a SportMod and it [Read More]

Maquoketa Speedway hosts 108 race teams

By Jerry Mackey MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 20, 2023) – Saturday produced perfect weather for racing at the quarter-mile Maquoketa Speedway. The racers responded with 108 teams taking part in the action and fans responded by coming out in large numbers to enjoy the racing.  The IMCA Sunoco Late Models saw a nice field of 16 drivers take the green for their feature event. Andy Nezworski extended his Maquoketa Speedway winning streak to four dating back to last year’s Jackson County fair race. Nezworski led the feature flag to flag but had he made one minor mistake, Steve Johnson would have been the man to beat. Johnson started back in the 10th position and rode the extreme top side to the front and finished the race less than a car length behind Nezworski. Gary Webb, in his 52nd year of racing, finished a very strong third on Saturday night.  Jeff “Bone” Larson, racing one of the TCE cars, scored back-to-back feature wins in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified division. Larson advanced from the fifth row and led the last [Read More]

Off Road drivers take advantage of track conditions for wins

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (May 20, 2023) – Saturday night’s track conditions at Off Road Speedway allowed as many passing options as a three-lane highway. Those drivers who guided their cars into victory lane took full advantage, sometimes using all three lines during a single lap. In the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature, Tyler Afrank recorded his second Off Road Speedway win of the season. The Norfolk driver needed just four laps to move from the inside of the third row to the front of the field, passing leader Ronnie Grass on the inside of turn four. With no cautions to benefit the other drivers, Afrank gradually established a straight away lead while Wes Hochstein and Cameron Meyer competed for second place behind him. Hochstein’s car had skidded higher on the track exiting turn two during three straight laps, and when it happened again during the final lap, Meyer took advantage, passing on the inside and charging down the backstretch in sole possession of second. Rusty Glosser also seized the opportunity to squeeze [Read More]

McBirnie from 19th to the win at Iowa’s Action Track

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (May 20, 2023) – Jake McBirnie hotshoed it all the way from 19th to win the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature on a beautiful Saturday night for racing at Boone Speedway. Nick Roberts jumped to the lead from his outside front row starting spot when the green flag flew. Izac Mallicoat started third and tucked in behind the leader. A caution flew on lap 13 and on the restart, Todd Shute got around Mallicoat to take over the second spot. A couple laps later, bad luck would bite Shute when he spun in corner one.  As the restart of that caution went green, suddenly it was McBirnie sitting in second place after making his way from the 19th starting spot. A lap later, McBirnie threw a perfectly executed slider in turn two and had the lead with three laps remaining. It was all McBirnie’s race the final circuits as he captured his first win at the track this season. Mallicoat kept second place, third went to Nick Roberts, veteran Russ Dickerson was fourth and [Read More]
