Tennessee sanction is first for IMCA STARS Mod Lites

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 16, 2023) – The second season of competition for the Tennessee Mod Lite Racing Association will be its first under the IMCA sanction. Seventeen race dates at four tracks in Tennessee, and a fifth in Kentucky, are scheduled during the 2023 IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing point season. Sanctioned events in both states will be the first for the IMCA STARS Mod Lite division. Home track Clarksville Speedway hosts eight of those shows, starting with opening night on March 10. Lexington 104 Speedway and Camden Speedway each have three dates, Crossville Speedway two and Kentucky’s Paducah International Raceway one. “We like being part of a national organization. Former driver, flagman returns as new promoter at Boyd Raceway

BOYD, Texas (Jan. 12, 2023) – He’s taken the checkers and he’s thrown the checkers at Boyd Raceway. Now, Matthew Yates’ next job at the Texas race track will be writing the checks. The retired driver and former flagman takes over as the promoter at Boyd, where four IMCA divisions run on Friday nights beginning March 24. “I grew up at race tracks so I’ve been part of this sport for 50 years and I’ve raced in just about every division,” said Yates. “I’ve got a good knowledge of racing and of racers, and I believe this is something I can do until I die. Tuesday shows at Beaver Dam Raceway to feature IMCA Modifieds, Stocks, SportMods

BEAVER DAM, Wis. (Jan. 9, 2023) – Three IMCA divisions will make their Tuesday night home at Beaver Dam Raceway this season. The Wisconsin speed plant, located between Madison and Milwaukee off Highway 151, features Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods on 17 weekly race programs beginning May 2. The IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing season championship night is Sept. 19. “There are a lot of IMCA drivers in this area. Shock, carburetor claim amounts increased in 2023

VINTON, Iowa (Jan. 5, 2023) – The dollar amount for shock claims increase in five IMCA divisions and are new for a sixth in 2023. Shock claim amounts in the Modified, Stock Car, Northern SportMod and Southern SportMod divisions have been increased to $100 each. Beginning this season, IMCA will implement a $100 shock claim in the STARS Mod Lite division. The Hobby Stock shock claim will be increased to $50 for each shock while the carburetor claim amount for that class has been increased to $100. After making only minor changes to 2023 rules for those divisions, IMCA has also announced that no other changes would be made to procedures, including claim eligibility requirements, or the point structure for the new season. Denton tabbed as DC, promoter at Beatrice Speedway

BEATRICE, Neb. (Dec. 21, 2022) – The Gage County Ag Society has named Tommy Denton as the Director of Competition and Promoter for the Beatrice Speedway 2023 season, starting Jan. 1, 2023. Tommy brings with him a long history and depth of experience and knowledge of the Beatrice Speedway and racing community. After moving from Denver to Nebraska in the early 1980s, Tommy started racing at Beatrice Speedway, and in his words “has been at the track every Friday or Saturday night since.” He was later hired as an announcer for the track and in the early 2000’s took on flagging in turns two and three, and then moved to being the infield pit announcer. In addition to his other roles, Tommy has served as the Director of the Beatrice Speedway Hall of Fame since 2011, where he has worked to preserve the history of the track and its racers. Focus on track championship sees Morris earn IMCA Modified crown at Cotton Bowl Speedway

TAYLOR, Texas (Dec. 20, 2022) – Chris Morris put the focus on winning a track championship and having fun in his seventh Friesen Performance IMCA Modified season. He did both, racing to 11 feature wins in all and his career first track title, at Cotton Bowl Speedway. “We were focused on the Cotton Bowl championship and wherever we fell in the region was going to be good enough,” said Morris, from Taylor, Texas, and third in the GRT Race Cars South Central standings behind William Gould and national rookie of the year Matthew Day. “It turned out to be a pretty fun year.” After topping the opening night show at Texana Raceway Park, he’d park in victory lane eight times at Paige and twice at Heart O’ Texas Speedway. Estevan is back on schedule for 2023 IMCA Dakota Tour

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (Dec. 19, 2022) – History teacher turned tour director John Gartner channeled his inner Douglas MacArthur when he promised a return to Estevan Motor Speedway. Billy Ward Jr. services set for Saturday

CARLISLE, N.Y. (Dec. 6, 2022) – William “Billy” D. Ward, Jr., 65, of Ward Road died Sunday, December 4, 2022 at his residence following a brief illness. The former IMCA Modified driver was born April 5, 1957 in Cobleskill, the son of the late Roslyn (Walsh) and William D. Ward, Sr. He was a 1975 graduate of the former Cobleskill Central School and the successful, proud owner of WDW Trucking LLC, which he operated several years. His first love was his family, especially being with his grandchildren. His second priority in life were his trucks, then his race cars and most recently his new construction equipment and all the people he met and interacted with whether working or playing. 2023 IMCA rules released after banquet weekend

VINTON, Iowa (Nov. 23, 2022) – The 2023 divisional rules will be posted on the IMCA website after the national banquet weekend. Accompanying stories on changes and/or clarifications in each division will be posted the same days. “The biggest single issue we have to address is phasing out the current Late Model tire with the new Hoosier manufactured National Late Model Tire,” noted IMCA President Brett Root. “We will make no major changes to rules that remain within our control.” “We try every year to eliminate any confusion in how rules are written and interpreted,” he continued, “and that remains a focus for 2023.”
