By Steven Blakesley  Blakesley Sports Media WATSONVILLE, Calif. (June 14, 2024) – Grassroots stock car racing action hit the dirt track at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville on Friday night, highlighted by victory in the 25-lap IMCA Modified feature for the Hall of Famer Jim Pettit II. Raymond Kjeldsen, Jr. drove around the outside of polesitter Kyle Bryant at the start of the Modified nightcap, swooping into the lead on lap one. Robert Marsh and Pettit used the outside line to drive into second and third, respectively. Pettit hounded Marsh but was unable to pass him for second, until Marsh spun in turn four. Marsh continued but surrendered several positions. Keldsen had a nearly 2.5 second advantage on Pettit at that stage on lap 10, but Pettit went to work reeling him in. By lap 16, Pettit drove underneath him in turn four to take the lead position. The caution flew a lap later for Bryan spinning out of the top five in turn four. Heffner hoists Hagerstown hardware

By Jim Haines HAGERSTOWN, Md. (June 15, 2024) – The annual Dad’s Night Out Race at Hagerstown Speedway didn’t disappoint from Kenny Heffner’s perspective. Heffner led the distance in winning the Saturday event, contended by 41 IMCA RaceSaver sprinters and co-sanctioned by the Virginia Sprint Series, Laurel Highlands Sprint Series and Pennsylvania Sprint Series. AJ Barton and Heffner paced the feature field to green with Heffner inching out front up top as Barton stayed low and stayed close with Zac Rhodes quickly in third with Tim Iulg and Austin Reed rounding out the early top five.  After a quick caution, Heffner showed a smooth, steady pace keeping his lead as the field raced behind to track him down. Austin Reed made it to third with Barton still second as Rhodes and Iulg raced for fourth.  As the laps were winding down and traffic came in to play, Reed was chasing down Heffner, but with the track smooth and wide Heffner was keeping a good pace as he came to pass the back end of the [Read More]

Kinzley repeats at Dacotah Speedway

By Becca Pelkey MANDAN, N.D. (June 14, 2024) – Quentin Kinzley collected his second Friesen Performance IMCA Modified victory in as many weeks Friday at Dacotah Speedway. Jordan Braun and Elijah Puckett started on the front row, however, it was veteran Marlyn Seidler who quickly took the lead when the green flag waved followed by Kinzley. The front pair quickly caught the tail end of the field. As Kinzley tried to pass Seidler for the lead, lapped traffic took his racing line around the ⅜-mile track. As the leaders continued to battle in lapped traffic, it allowed defending track champion Mark Dahl to close in. With five laps to go and with a clear race track, Kinzley slipped into the lead and pulled away. Seidler finished second while Dahl was third. Caden Roberts finished a strong fourth place and Jason Wolla rounded out the top five. Zach Hughbanks started on the pole for the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature. He led early as they raced three-wide for second behind him between Alex Thompson, Harrison Schwartz [Read More]

Young scores first PASS victory

By Frank Buhrman SELINSGROVE, Pa. (June 8, 2024) – Just over four years ago, Dustin Young, with no prior climbing experience, strapped on his hiking boots and set off to scale a mountain. He celebrated on the peak Saturday night. The mountain in this case was the River Valley Builders Pennsylvania Sprint Car Series, the boots were a driving uniform, and the mountain was the sweeping half-mile Selinsgrove Speedway. Standing “up top” on the wing of his number 24 Sprint Car in victory lane, Young waved the checkered and screamed out in victory at the end of Saturday’s 20-lap IMCA RaceSaver feature, which he had led from start to finish. Mountain climbers everywhere would have understood. The Danville resident began his racing career – no prior experience at all – at Selinsgrove little more than a week beyond exactly four years ago, and he failed to qualify for his first event. But improvement came quickly and he was the 2020 PASS Rookie of the Year. Since then, he has become a regular contender, earning a [Read More]

Competitive races, close finishes at Off Road Speedway

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (June 8, 2024) – The competitive nature of the feature races and a number of close finishes kept fans’ riveted to the finish line during Saturday night racing at Off Road Speedway. Those finishes included Cameron Meyer’s green, white, checkered victory in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature, Cameron Wilkinson’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car win, and a late pass by Jason Wilkinson to secure second behind Trevor Frisch in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Meyer, whose win was his third at Off Road Speedway this season and second consecutive trip to victory lane at the track, started the 15-lap race five rows back and steadily moved up to force his way into a five-car battle for the lead. James Roebuck, who led 12 laps after passing pole-sitter Stephanie Reynolds, was challenged by Colby Langenberg, Meyer, Kyle Wilkinson and newcomer Shawn Kelley for most of those laps while five cautions contributed to the pursuers remaining in position to take advantage of any possible mistake by a car in front [Read More]

Win to Bjerkeset, Lund lands Arlington bonus

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 8, 2024) – Ryan Bjerkeset went home with the win and Curt Lund went home with a $500 bonus after the Rice Companies VIPs added a little twist to the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature Saturday at Arlington Raceway. As much as an additional $2,100 was on the line for drivers accepting the back row challenge: They’d get the full amount if they won, or an extra $500 by advancing the most positions toward the front. Two drivers took the challenge, Lund and Ken Tietz, and with extra money on the line, the race was understandably intense. Jeff McCollum was the first lap leader with Matt Speckman in second; the positions were reversed on the following circuit. By the ninth lap, Bjerkeset was in the mix from his 11th place start. A yellow flag was thrown on the 10th lap following a multi-car collision. On the restart, Speckman again led the field but four laps later Bjerkeset got around him. Matt Looft, who had started 12th, used the last restart to his advantage and moved [Read More]
