Bloom takes care of business at Cottage Grove

(July 23, 2022) – Dalton Bloom took care of business Saturday night in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature as the Lebanon driver accrued his second win of the season at Cottage Grove Speedway this season. Kevin Williamson beat David Schmidt for second. Hunter Bloom and Daniel Ray were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the finishing order.  Scarlett Drake was the winner of the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature. It is the second win of the campaign for the Salem racer. Dusten Henderson hit the line second with third going to Burnie Bryant. Eli Miller ended the weekend fourth with Chris Pierce grabbing fifth.

Nezworski nabs IMCA Late Model checkers at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (July 24, 2022) – Andy Nezworski made the most of the lone appearance for the IMCA Sunoco Late Models this season at Benton County Speedway. The southeast Iowa racer ran down race-long leader Dalton Simonsen and stole the lead with two laps remaining to take the thrilling win on the quarter-mile. From his pole position start, Simonsen rocketed into the lead and quickly pulled way from the pack while Nezworski battled Bobby Hansen over numerous laps for second. Just shy of the midway point of the 20-lapper, Nezworski slipped past Hansen, but was running 2.2 second behind Simonsen by the time he made his way into the runner-up spot. Nezworski spent the next 10 laps cutting into the deficit and was able to draw even as lapped traffic slowed the leader. He slipped past Simonsen as the flying green waved to sail to victory. Hunter Bloom wins Ralph Bloom Memorial at Cottage Grove

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 16, 2022) – Saturday was Christmas In July Night at Cottage Grove Speedway. It also was the Ralph Bloom Memorial for the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods, one of the biggest nights of the whole year for the division. When all the dust had settled, Hunter Bloom parked his mount in victory lane and won his first race of the season. The victory also kept the trophy in the Bloom family name.  Points beat Matt Sanders for second. Justin Ryker posted a fourth-place result over fifth-finishing Daniel Ray.  For the third time in the year, Paul Rea emerged victorious in Friesen Performance IMCA Modified competition. The Eugene native collected his first win since April 23. Jake Mayden got second while in third was Curtis Towns in the Frank Brewer-fielded car. Steven Sturdevant ended his night fourth while Hornbrook, Calif., traveler Duane Orsburn completed the top five.

Aikey gets job done in IMCA Modified feature at Fayette County Speedway Rage Chassis 40

By Zakary Kriener  WEST UNION, Iowa (July 20, 2022) – The Rage Chassis 40 did not disappoint Tuesday night as Fayette County Speedway hosted the $2,000 to win fair special for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds.  At the end of the 40-lap feature race, it was legend Jeff Aikey who parked his no. 77 hot rod in victory lane. Aikey wasted little time finding his way to the front after starting third on the grid. After a few cautions in the opening laps, Aikey got past early leader Chris Snyder and was able to maintain a good distance over eventual runner-up and defending IMCA national champion Jeff Larson throughout the rest of the caution-free race.  “I started my racing career right here 42 years ago,” said an ecstatic Aikey in his post-race interview. “I may be 60 years old, but giving up racing is not something that I have in my future plans.”  Aikey was already eligible to qualify for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. VINTON, Iowa (July 20, 2022) – Thirteen more IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers will be eligible to contend for B & B Racing Chassis All-Star Invitational honors.  Winners of specials paying $5,000 or more earning guaranteed starting spots were Jeffrey Abbey at Heart O’ Texas Speedway’s Baby Blue Harcrow, Michael Jaennette at Boone County Raceway’s Tanner Pelster Memorial and Collen Winebarger at Sunset Speedway Park. Dakota Classic Tour feature winners were Trent Grager and Matt Speckman. Devin Smith took a pair of Midwest Madness Tour checkers and Clay County Fairground Speedway’s Millard Memorial, and Jerry Schram scored a Wild West Shootout win. 16 more IMCA Modified drivers earn Fast Shafts eligibility

VINTON, Iowa (July 18, 2022) – Another 16 Friesen Performance Modified drivers have won feature events paying $1,000 or more in the past month, earning Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligibility along with those checkers. Eric Mass and Eddie Kirchoff were Gunslinger Tour winners and Dalton Magers topped Murray County Speedway’s Anderson/Muecke Memorial. Jeff Aikey led the way at Benton County Speedway’s Urbana 5 special. Out west, Ricky Alvarado was a Wild West Tour winner and Jesse Williamson picked up a pair of Wild West Shootout W’s. Jerry Flippo was first at Bakersfield Speedway’s Richie McGowan Memorial and Caleb Stone took the big money at Cardinal Motor Speedway’s Kelly Sheen Memorial. Hubbard roars at the Mountain

(July 16, 2022) – Drivers had a hot and sunny day at Shenandoah Speedway and Billy Hubbard was the hottest as he went to the front and held off a charge from Matt Mullins for his first Virginia Sprint Series win of the year. It was a feature-only IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car Saturday event on the pavement and Chris Ware and Chris Humblet paced the field to green, with Humblet out first up high on the oval.  Hubbard and Jerald Harris quickly joined the fight up front. Hubbard got by, leaving Humblet to Harris as the laps clicked by. Hubbard led as Harris made his way to second as last race winner Mullins made his way toward the front from 10th starting.  Harris was closing as the leader caught the rear of the field but at the same time his handle seemed to be going away. Hilmer, Kimm, Schmitz highlight night of firsts at Benton County Speedway

VINTON, Iowa (July 17, 2022) – It was a memorable Sunday night for a trio of drivers at Benton County Speedway. Brady Hilmer, Michael Kimm and Steven Schmitz earned the first wins of their careers in their respective divisions at The Bullring. Hilmer took the lead at the drop of the green in the main event for the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. While Hilmer paced the field, Joe Docekal worked through traffic and settled into second a few laps into the 15-lapper. He then proceeded to pursue the leader around the top of the quick quarter-mile. Docekal tried numerous times to race the low side into the lead, however Hilmer proved too strong up top to earn the milestone victory. Docekal ran second ahead of Brandon Tharp and Justin Wacha. Kimm also led the distance in the 15-lapper for IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Denning speeds to East Moline checkers

(July 17, 2022) – Travis Denning shot from the high groove to the low early, moved to the lead after starting sixth and won Sunday’s Friesen Performance IMCA Modified 20-lap feature at East Moline Speedway.  Brandon Durbin started in the last row and wound up second ahead of B.J. Jackson, Mitch Morris and Mike Zemo. Logan Gustaf topped a record-tying IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock field for his first career 12-lap victory. First-time visitor Luke Phillips tried to catch Gustaf in traffic but settled for second. Randy Lamar, Brandon Schneider and Donnie Cole followed. The 2022 season continues July 20 with the Rock Island County Fair Championship races featuring the Tribute to Ron Gustaf for IMCA Sunoco Late Models plus Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods and IMCA STARS Mod Lites.

Saturday night Eagle win is first of season for Jackson

(July 16, 2022) – A rough start led to a perfect ending for Tyler Jackson.  Jackson won his first IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock feature of the season at Eagle Raceway Saturday night ahead of national points leader Dillon Richards.  “I got kind of a rough start at the beginning of the feature. I got into another car. I didn’t mean to do it and I apologized to him a couple of times,” Jackson said post-race. “After that, the car was perfect, I just had to be sure I kept it perfect.”  Ryan Gilland, Drew Barry and Michael Hansen completed the top five.  Bob Zoubek hit his marks in winning the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature.
