Schulte returns to Benton County Speedway victory lane

VINTON, Iowa (July 3, 2022) – In his most recent trip to Benton County Speedway, Mark Schulte ended his night upside down and with a car needing major repair.  His return to The Bullring Sunday night resulted in a trip to victory lane. From his front row start, Schulte assumed command at the drop of the green in the 20-lapper for Friesen Performance IMCA Modifieds. Schulte paced the field while his pursuers jockeyed for position behind him. Nicholas Carpenter challenged early and Ryan Maitland pressured late following a couple cautions, however Schulte drove away over the final laps to secure his first win of the year. Maitland ran second at the line ahead of a charging Dylan Thornton. Chris Zogg ran fourth. Dylan VanWyk and San Wieben battled through the early stages of the 15-lapper for Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods. The lead pair exchanged sliders and the top spot before VanWyk escaped to victory. Ben Chapman raced his way past Wieben to finish second and Tony Olson came home fourth. Larson first to Durbin Memorial checkers

By Rob Hinckley EAST MOLINE, Ill. (July 3, 2022) – Just like any skilled veteran dirt race car driver, Jeff Larson remembered the best line around East Moline Speedway and it paid off big time Sunday evening.  “Bone” redrew no. 1 after winning his Friesen Performance IMCA Modified heat race and rolled to a flag-to-flag victory in the third Greg Durbin Memorial.  After waiting out a handful of cautions, the defending national champion diamoned turn one, launched the backstretch and crept through turns three and four for 25 laps en route to a $1,500 pay day plus some bonus money. That same style also carried him to the 2021 EMS track title. Last year’s Durbin Memorial winner Travis Denning, started seventh and maneuvered by teammate B.J. Jackson for the runner-up spot on lap seven, but Larson’s familiar Bader Construction No. B1 repeatedly opened big advantages. Denning also was second behind Eric Barnes, Greg Durbin’s brother, in the inaugural event in 2020. Barnes drew the outside pole, but dropped out with a mechanical issue and finished [Read More]

Horton is first in Eagle Sprint feature

By Greg Soukup  EAGLE, Neb. (July 2, 2022) – Brandon Horton was first to the checkers when a change in the running order had IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars take to the high banks for the first main event of the evening Saturday at Eagle Raceway. Horton passed Jason Danley for the lead on a lap five restart. Mike Boston got past Danley for second with eight circuits remaining but couldn’t close the gap on the leader. “In eight or nine years now, I think we’ve finished in every single spot in the feature except winning it, so this feels really good, finally,” said Horton. “I liked the track tonight. I think running the Sprint Cars first kind of set in a nice groove that everyone else ran as the night went on. It ended being nice and smooth with a nice cushion to run on and it was pretty fast.”  Jordan Grabouski was back in victory lane following the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature, Shane Stutzman led from lap six to the end of the [Read More]

That was the big thing. It was a confidence building night,” said Kelly, from Fairmont, Minn., and also a first-time heat race winner Friday night. “Hendrick was pretty excited to see the trophy when he got up the next morning.”  “We’d broken an axle our first week at Britt and he’s been telling people ‘Daddy drove off the track.’ Hopefully we can get him talking about how dad brought home a trophy.”  The site of Kelly’s first win was also special. “It was neat to win here. Block provides IMCA Modified fireworks at Outagamie

By Joe Orsini SEYMOUR, Wis. (July 1, 2022) – The Fourth of July weekend kicked off with 180 cars filling the pits at Outagamie Speedway. Each of the drivers wanted to avoid fireworks on the track and enjoy them from victory lane after the races. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature kicked off with Jason Hyerdall and then Dan Roedl in front.  Wyatt Block wasted no time moving into position to challenge as he moved inside Hyerdall to secure second. Block continued to work the groove inside Roedl and fought side-by-side with the leader for multiple laps as Mike Mullen steadily worked the high side into fourth place. At halfway, Roedl led Block, Cody Schroeder, and Mike Mullen.  A lap 12 restart saw Block slice past Roedl into the top spot and try to open a gap on the field.  The closing laps saw Mullen put on a clinic on running the high side in turns one and two as he tickled the wall up top with every lap. When the checkers flew Mullen closed [Read More]
