Two defending IMCA national champs among US 36 winners

By Rick Staley OSBORN, Mo. (May 20, 2022) – A pair of defending IMCA national champions were Central Auto Racing Boosters Night winners Friday at US 36 Raceway. IMCA STARS Mod Lites kicked off the evening with side-by-side racing throughout the pack of contenders. Defending national champ Dillon Raffurty swept the night, winning both his heat race and the feature. It wasn’t easy in the feature as Raffurty worked from the back of the field to take the lead at the halfway point and never looked back. Jeff Raffurty led early and battled with Kyle Guy until Guy made his move to finish second in the closing laps, moving Jeff Raffurty to third.  The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars saw Jay Russell dominate, winning both his heat and the feature. Russell set the pace after battling early with Jacob Dye and Jack Potter until Dye took a tumble down the front straight, bringing his night to an end. Brown repeats, Spaw returns to CJ Speedway victory lane

By Jerry Mackey  COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (May 20, 2022) – Friday night racing was held at CJ Speedway with a large increase in car count and an action packed night of close racing on the slick and smooth 4/10-mile dirt track on the Louisa County Fairgrounds. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature saw Jarrett Brown make his way to victory lane for the second consecutive week. Brown steadily worked to the front from a fifth row start and made the winning pass on lap 12 of the 16-lap feature. Brown slipped by race leader Dakota Simmons by using multiple lines on the very racy track. Simmons took second at the checkers ahead of early leader Jonathan Huston. Johnny Spaw has been so busy building race cars that his racing schedule has been very limited. Spaw made his first appearance of the 2022 season at CJ and when the checkers flew in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event it was Spaw taking the win. Spaw stated in victory lane, “I love racing CJ, they have [Read More]

Hollatz, Berry are midweek winners at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (May 18, 2022) – Two IMCA drivers with a knack for coming up big when bigger checks are on the line did so again during a rare Wednesday night show at Marshalltown Speedway. Tom Berry and Chanse Hollatz both took rich checkers during Castrol FloRacing Night in America at the fabled High Banks.  Berry’s Friesen Performance IMCA Modified victory was his fourth $1,000 victory since April 10; Hollatz has now banked $1,000 following six of his 2022 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car wins.  Richie Gustin looked to be poised to take the checkers in the 20-lap Modified feature, leading from the drop of the green as he out distanced Berry and Cayden Carter. They reeled in Gustin and on lap 15 Carter, piloting the 30M machine of Maguire DeJong, took the top spot.  His lead would be brief, however, as Berry claimed the number one spot with three laps to go and sailed home to take the checkers and the win. Already Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying eligible, Berry won ahead of [Read More]

Horn is sharp in Lee County opener for IMCA Late Models

By Brian Neal DONNELLSON, Iowa (May 13, 2022) – The calendar might have said it was Friday the 13th, but that didn’t slow action at Lee County Speedway, where the six-class racing program was completed in just a little over three hours.  The 20-lap IMCA Sunoco Late Model feature had Darin Weisinger Jr. and Sam Halstead leading the field to green. Weisinger led lap one over Halstead and C.J. Horn.  Horn followed in Weisinger’s tire tracks around the bottom while Tommy Elston tried the top and middle to get around the lead duo. Weisinger was able to hold both off until lap 16, when Horn got underneath for the top spot. Horn then pulled away over the final laps to pick up the win. Weisinger held off Elston for second. Luke Fraise and Patrick McKasson led the field to green in the 15-lap Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature, with Fraise grabbing the early lead over Chevy Barnes and Brandon Reu. Barnes and then Reu took turns at the front before a lap five caution.  On the restart [Read More]

Competitive races, close finishes at Off Road Speedway

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (May 14, 2022) – A large crowd turned out at Off Road Speedway Saturday night, with the closest, most competitive races, including action at the finish line, provided by three of the four IMCA main events.  The IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature became an older brother vs. younger brother competition between Kyle and Cameron Wilkinson. With the track offering a variety of lines for drivers to choose, Kyle took over the lead from Chad Bruns by passing on the inside with 13 laps left. Cameron, who had a longer journey to the front after starting on the outside of the sixth row, overtook Bruns two laps later and joined Kyle for an eight lap battle, traveling nearly side-by-side during most of those laps.  Finally, with three laps remaining, Cameron gained control of the lead and, despite a caution with two laps to complete, held on for the win by less than a car length over his older brother.  The victory was Cameron’s second of the season at Off Road [Read More]
