Cochrun wins Clint Walrod Memorial

By Josh Reynolds STUART, Iowa (July 21) – One hundred and twenty-nine race cars came to the Clint Walrod Memorial at Stuart Speedway. Feature winners for the night were Kaden Cochrun, Lucas Daniels, Izac Mallicoat, Jeremy Gettler, Dylan Nelson, Tim Ward and Braxton Wallace.  IMCA STARS Mod Lites were first up with Mike Zemo Jr. and Nathan Wolfe on the front row. Kaden Cochrun shot into the lead on lap one and through a couple of cautions it was all the 23K as he took the feature win. Josh May made it interesting but came up second with Zemo third, Dillon Raffurty fourth and Jon Padilla fifth. Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods came out with Shane Paris and Izac Mallicoat leading the field to green. Mallicoat powered into the lead until the caution flew on lap six. Brayton Carter used the restart to move into second but that was as close as he’d come as Mallicoat went on to the feature win. B & B Chassis All-Star eligible list adds 19 drivers

VINTON, Iowa – Another 19 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car drivers are in the running for B & B Chassis All-Star Invitational honors. Dalton Flory, Jake Nelson and Jordan Zillmer won on the Dakota Classic Tour while Midwest Madness Tour winners included Derek Green, Ryan Harris and Devin Smith. Dillion Lawrence won on the Wild West Tour. Erik Mahlik won at Clash at the Creek, Chad Clancy topped the Doyle Lance Remembrance special and Tathan Burkhart was best at the Wheatshocker Nationals. Winning qualifying weekly events were Brian Blessington, Jerrett Bransom, Justin Luinenburg, Cole Mather, Ryan Powers and Luke Sathoff. VINTON, Iowa – Another 16 IMCA Modified drivers are newly eligible for Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational qualifying. Hank Berry and Travis Hagen were Can-Am Shootout winners at Williston Basin Speedway. Zane DeVilbiss swept the Wild West Tour weekend at Desert Thunder Raceway and Jesse Glenz topped the Land of Ten Thousand Lakes 10K at Princeton Speedway. Bricen James was first to the checkers in the Dakota Classic Tour finale at Dacotah Speedway while Benji LaCrosse landed the big win at The ‘Burg Speedway’s Eric Van Iten Memorial. Rayce McCord and Joey Price were Mountain States Modified Tour winners. Brad Pounds paced Bakersfield Speedway’s McGowan Memorial. Gallatin Speedway promoter’s daughter Ali Weisz shooting for Olympic gold

BELGRADE, Mont. – Ali Weisz was 17 years old when she told interviewers her goal was to compete at the Olympics.  The daughter of Gallatin Speedway promoter Dave Weisz will do just that this week as a member of the U.S. Shooting Team. She’ll go for the gold in 10 meter women’s air rifle competition, the first event following the opening ceremony on Friday.  “She was in elementary when she brought home a flyer about a BB gun safety program one day and decided it was something she wanted to do,” Weisz said. “Ali started with a BB gun in the basement of a gun shop and did that two nights a week.”  It was quickly obvious that Ali was a natural and she began competitive shooting and setting records across Montana. Meyer, Albrant among winners at Boone Speedway

By Joyce Eisele BOONE, Iowa (July 17) – You couldn’t have asked for better racing than the fans saw at the Boone Speedway on Saturday night.  The 167 cars that checked into the track put on some of the best racing of the year with close finishes and exciting action throughout all classes. Nick Meyer in the IMCA Modifieds was a first-time winner at Boone, as was Nate Albrant in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods and Dillon Raffurty in the IMCA STARS Mod Lites.  Eric Stanton returned to victory lane in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and Devin Smith picked up his fourth regular season victory in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division.  It was also a night where drivers and fans paid their respects to longtime worker at the track, Tammy Stevens who recently lost her fight to cancer. Towns tops Cottage Grove IMCA Modified main

(July 16) – Curtis Towns raced to IMCA Modified win number two of the season at Cottage Grove Speedway Friday night.  Paul Rea was the early race leader in the main event.  The veteran chauffeur set a fast pace until his driveline spat out, on lap five, sidelining him for the rest of the race. Inheriting the lead position was Towns.  Towns stayed in the coveted position for the balance of the distance despite feeling brief periods of pressure. Towns scored his second win of 2021 in Cottage Grove competition. Eston Whisler was a strong second, followed by Ryan Baker. The rest of the top five was made up of Steven Sturdevant and Paul Culp.  For the Mach-1 Sport Compacts, young Madilyn Ashley set the tone in the early goings of that feature. Berry is IMCA Modified winner, Murty takes big money at Marshalltown

By Joyce Eisele MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (July 16) – Marshalltown Speedway held its regular weekly racing program on Friday night, along with the Central Iowa Fair.  Two drivers kept their winning streaks going as Kaden Reynolds rolled to another win in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock division, as did Dillon Raffurty in the IMCA STARS Mod Lites. Dallon Murty took home the $1,000 IMCA Sunoco Stock Car special, Jenae Gustin found her way to victory lane in the Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods, Tom Berry claimed the win in the IMCA Modifieds and the Mach-1 Sport Compacts joined the regular classes with Adam Gates taking that victory. Last year’s track champion and defending IMCA national champion Berry made his presence known once again at the High Banks, as he piloted his new ride to victory. Shryock earns career win number 500 at Kossuth County

By Greg Grabianowski  ALGONA, Iowa (July 15) – To say that Kelly Shryock’s racing career has been special would be a huge understatement. The veteran driver reached yet another milestone on July 15 at Kossuth County Speedway as he earned his 500th career victory. The milestone win came with a little icing on the cake for Shryock as the Beck’s Hybrid IMCA Sunoco Stock Car Special paid a cool $1,000 to the victor on Thursday evening.  Kevin Opheim and Ryan Watnem brought the 16-car field to the starting line as Watnem jumped out to the early lead. The caution flag appeared on lap number three and Donavon Smith became the new leader after the restart.  The yellow flag came out one lap later again but Smith continued to hold the lead. Patience pays off for Hobscheidt with Swanson Memorial IMCA Modified win

HARLAN, Iowa (July 13) – He only led one lap, but it was the most important one. Jacob Hobscheidt caught Chaz Baca for the front spot on the 20th and final circuit Tuesday night, then took the checkers a quarter of a second ahead of the Arizona visitor to win the IMCA Modified feature at Shelby County Speedway’s Dale Swanson Memorial. The win, good for $2,500, was Hobscheidt’s third in as many starts at Harlan this season.  “I kept being patient,” said Hobscheidt, who needed just eight laps to race from the ninth starting spot to second. “I knew we needed to wait until the right time, and we did it.” Bub Lerette led the first lap from the pole before giving way to Brad Bergren.  The third and final caution of the contest waved on lap 12. $250 Sunoco bonus for Late Model winners in Nebraska this weekend

VINTON, Iowa – Extra money is on the line for the winner of weekend main events for IMCA Sunoco Late Models at a trio of Nebraska speedplants this weekend. The next three installments of the $250 Sunoco Race Fuels bonus will be paid to the July 15-17 Late Model winners at US 30 Speedway in Columbus, Boone County Raceway in Albion, and Off Road Speedway in Norfolk.  Sunoco bonuses will be presented at IMCA Late Model sanctioned tracks in 2021. Drivers are eligible for one bonus during the racing season. Winners so far this year have been Matt Ryan at 300 Raceway in Farley, followed by Sean Johnson at Independence Motor Speedway, Andy Eckrich at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, and most recently Ron Klein at Dubuque Speedway.  IMCA will announce mid-week before the dates bonuses are to be awarded at each track.  Hot laps are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Columbus and Albion, and a half hour earlier at 7 pm in Norfolk.
