Deery Brothers Summer Series opens Friday with Rebel 5K at Davenport

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The longest running Late Model Series in the Midwest is back in action and a top prize of $5,000 is on the line when Davenport Speedway hosts opening night for the Deery Brothers Summer Series this Friday, April 13. The Rebel 5K is the first of 13 dates for the 32nd annual IMCA Late Model tour and pays a minimum of $300 to start. Along with the big check, the winner goes home with the top spot in national, state and special series standings. Pit gates at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 5:45 p.m. with racing to follow. New qualifying format in place for historic 32nd annual Deery Brothers Summer Series

VINTON, Iowa – A new qualifying format employing passing points will be used at Deery Brothers Summer Series events this season. It’s the first time in the 32-year history of the IMCA Late Model tour that passing points have been used. All heat race winners and the next combination of drivers with the highest passing point totals will comprise the first 12 main event starters, with heat winners redrawing for the front rows. “B” feature grids will be lined up from the remaining high to low point totals. Series point provisionals will be awarded to drivers to drivers not qualifying from their heat or “B.” The upcoming Deery Series opens with the $5,000 to win Rebel 5K at Davenport Speedway on Friday, April 13.

2018 Deery Brothers Summer Series schedule marked by milestones

VINTON, Iowa – A schedule packed with milestone events sees the Deery Brothers Summer Series make its 50th visit to one race track and its first-ever to another speedplant this season. Thirteen race dates are on the calendar for the 32nd annual IMCA Late Model tour, which opens April 13 with the $5,000 to win Rebel 5K on the quarter mile oval at Davenport Speedway. Kay wins Deery Series finale, Sobbing earns IMCA Late Model tour crown

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (Sept. 23) – Justin Kay celebrated another feature win and Jesse Sobbing celebrated a first championship when the final Deery Brothers Summer Series checkers of the season flew Saturday at West Liberty Raceway. Kay topped the $5,000 to win, 100 lap Liberty 100 main event while Sobbing persevered to a 15th place finish, good enough to make him champion and the top rookie of the 2017 tour for IMCA Late Models. Tyler Bruening led all but the first nine and the last nine laps before chasing Kay across the stripe. Jake Neal ran in or close to the top three all night and finished as the runner-up to Sobbing in the points race. Deery Series heads to West Liberty for $5,000 to win Liberty 100 finale

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa – The final Deery Brothers Summer Series checkers of the season fly this weekend at West Liberty Raceway. The 21st annual Ideal Ready Mix Liberty 100 program is also the final event IMCA Late Model drivers can vie for IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National and Allstar Performance State points. Time trials, qualifying races and a $1,000 to win race of champions are on the Friday, Sept. 22 card. Chris Simpson becomes 100th different Deery winner at Yankee Dirt Track Classic

FARLEY, Iowa (Sept. 2) – Along with a unique place in Deery Brothers Summer Series history, Chris Simpson enjoyed a $10,000 run to the checkers at Farley Speedway’s 40th annual Yankee Dirt Track Classic Saturday night. Simpson regained the lead with 28 circuits to go in the 100-lap main event, then held off Joel Callahan and Justin Kay following a late restart to win his IMCA Late Model tour career-first feature. He also became the 100th different driver to win a feature over the course of the series’ 477-event history. “It was kind of a good night for us,” said Simpson, who put a car he built and borrowed from Jason Rauen in victory lane. “This is a series that has been around for a long time. Disqualification leads to Kay’s career 22nd Deery Series win

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 6) – Justin Kay won for the 22nd time in his Deery Brothers Summer Series career Tuesday night at Marshalltown Speedway. The victory came in unique fashion for Kay, who was awarded the top spot when apparent winner Jeremiah Hurst was disqualified in post-race tech after a failed rear end inspection. John Emerson became runner-up and IMCA Late Model tour point leader Jesse Sobbing was third after starting 15th. Jeff Aikey and Jake Neal completed the top five. Neal had led the first half of the 50-lapper before giving way to Hurst. The last caution of the race came on lap 48. Sobbing wins Memorial Day Deery feature at Boone

BOONE, Iowa (May 29) – Jesse Sobbing couldn’t have asked for a much better weekend than this. After hearing his name called as winner of the $250 Sunoco Race Fuels feature qualifier drawing, Sobbing went out and won the 40-lap Deery Brothers Summer Series main event at Boone Speedway’s Memorial Day special.
