Hurst gets best of Benton County Deery Series foes

VINTON, Iowa (June 28) – It wasn’t that long ago Jeremiah Hurst wasn’t sure about his future in racing. On Thursday, he was in victory lane telling all about his Deery Brothers Summer Series win at Benton County Speedway. “This is awesome. It’s my first win since my heart attack (last July). It seems like we have a lot of seconds,” said Hurst, most recently runner-up in back-to-back IMCA Late Model tour events last month at Quad City Speedway and Boone Speedway. “It feels really good to be able to win tonight.” Boone had been the site of Hurst’s last Deery win, during the 2002 IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Casey’s. Deery Brothers Summer Series gets top billing at Benton County Fair show

VINTON, Iowa (June 22) – The Deery Brothers Summer Series makes a much anticipated return to Benton County Speedway next Thursday night. Touring IMCA Late Models race for $2,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start the June 28 main event, which headlines the county fair show in Vinton. Pit gates and the grandstand open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m. The series has made just two previous visits to BCS, which can stake a claim to fame as the site of Darrel DeFrance’s first series win. The Marshalltown driver has competed at all 484 series events to date and captured that first victory at Vinton on July 14 of 1988. Eckrich outruns Deery pack for Marshalltown checkers

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (June 5) – After he kept the pack behind him, Andy Eckrich picked up the top check from Marshalltown Speedway’s Steve Priske Miller Lite 50 Deery Brothers Summer Series show. Eckrich led the last 48 of 50 laps in earning the $2,000 victory Tuesday night and pocketed another $400 in bonus money from Rumours Bar and Grill for winning his heat and the main event. “We got going pretty early but I figured the pack of wolves would be coming,” said Eckrich, who set sail after the final caution came out on the 14th circuit. “I got into traffic around lap 30 and with six to go caught up with four lapped cars that were racing hard. It took a while to get by them.” Point leader Justin Kay started 12th and chased Eckrich across the stripe, but didn’t get close enough to challenge. Miller Lite 50 at Marshalltown next for Deery Series

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – IMCA Late Models following the Deery Brothers Summer Series make their annual mid-week visit to Marshalltown Speedway next Tuesday, June 5. The Steve Priske Miller Lite 50 pays $2,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start. Rumours Bar and Grill pays $200 to each heat winner, plus another $200 to any driver who can win both their heat and the main event. Pit gates open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. Hot laps are at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Streak-stopper Martin wins Boone Deery

BOONE, Iowa (May 28) – A driver who knows a thing or two about winning streaks ended one and started one of his own Monday night at Boone Speedway. Curt Martin led all but one of 40 laps in winning the Memorial Day Deery Brothers Summer Series event at Boone, earning $2,000 for his career 27th IMCA Late Model tour victory. His convincing run at the front ended Justin Kay’s bid for a record fifth consecutive series victory. Jeremiah Hurst finished a distant second, with Ryan Dolan, Kay and Joe Zrostlik rounding out the top five. Martin drew the pole and gave up the lead early to Hurst for a single circuit before resuming command. Kay keen on collecting record fifth straight Deery win on Memorial Day at Boone

BOONE, Iowa – Justin Kay runs for a Deery Brothers Summer Series record fifth straight feature win when the IMCA Late Model tour makes its traditional Memorial Day visit to Boone Speedway. Kay already owns four consecutive Deery victories and looks to become the first driver in the tour’s 32-year history to win five in a row next Monday, May 28. Kay won the 2017 series finale and followed with checkers at Cedar County Raceway, Maquoketa Speedway and Quad City Speedway in the first three events of 2018. Justin Kay won the Deery Brothers Summer Series feature at Quad City Speedway, his third victory in as many IMCA Late Model tour outings this season and record-tying fourth straight Deery win dating to the 2017 finale. Kay dominates Deery at Maquoketa

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 5) – Once he got in front, there was no catching Justin Kay in Saturday’s Deery Brothers Summer Series main event at Maquoketa Speedway. Kay started in the second row, slipped inside leader Terry Neal on the 12th circuit and led to the finish of the IMCA Late Model Tour feature. “Terry moved up to get by a lapped car and that’s when I was able to pass him,” Kay said. “Any time you get an opportunity like that, you have to be ready.” The sole caution of the 50-lapper came out with three circuits to go and Kay by then handily ahead of Neal & Co. MAQUOKETA, Iowa (May 1) – The only weekend doubleheader of the season is next for the Deery Brothers Summer Series, with $2,000 to win events on Saturday, May 5 at Maquoketa Speedway and Sunday, May 6 at Quad City Speedway in East Moline, Ill. The second and third installments of the tour for IMCA Late Models both pay a minimum of $300 to start. Pit gates and the grandstand both open at 3 p.m. Saturday at Maquoketa.
