Sunset Speedway Park readies for April 20 Discount Days opener

By Ben Deatherage BANKS, Ore. – After last week’s disappointing rainout things are looking to finally get underway on Saturday, April 20, at Sunset Speedway Park. The Banks Bullring has a full card of racing and will feature a special admission price with $5 for one general admission ticket or $8 for two. Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods will be featured regularly at SSP after only hosting a couple of races last year and will crown a champion for the first time since 2017. Drivers and fans are encouraged to check the track website/Facebook page for weather updates. Pit gates open at 2 p.m. and front gates open at 4 p.m., with racing kicking off at 6 p.m. A family pass (two adults and up to four youth) is offered for $35 while premium seats are available for $25 each. IMCA Modifieds on lidlifter at Cottage Grove

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. – Cottage Grove Speedway gets the new race season started on Saturday, April 20 with and has a special Easter Eggstavaganza (featuring over 2,000 eggs and an appearance by the Easter Bunny at intermission) planned during the night. IMCA Modifieds are on the evening card. Pit gates open at 1 p.m., the front gate opens at 3:30 p.m., time trials are at 5:30 p.m. and racing is scheduled to kick off at approximately 6 p.m. Tickets are $13 for adults, seniors, juniors and military are $10, youth ages 6-12 are $5 and children five and under are free. A family pass (two adults and up to four youth) sells for $35. VIP skybox seating is $25 and pit passes are $30.

Saturday opener for Crystal

CRYSTAL, Mich. – Crystal Motor Speedway starts the 2019 season this Saturday, April 20. IMCA Modifieds return to the IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing program. Ventura is back in action on Saturday

VENTURA, Calif. – After two weeks off, Ventura Raceway has a full program of action-packed racing by the beach headlined by the IMCA Modifieds. IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Larry Shaw Race Cars Western Region, E3 Spark Plugs California State and track points will be awarded. Pits open at noon, grandstands at 3 p.m. Admission is adults $15, seniors, military and students $11 and kids 12 and under are free. Test and tune is April 13, 14 at Crystal

CRYSTAL, Mich. – If it’s April, it’s the beginning of another race season at Crystal Motor Speedway. The annual test and tune sessions are set for Saturday and Sunday, April 13 and 14 from 2-5 p.m. and are open to any race machines. Admission will be $20 for the pits, but no charge to observe from the grandstands. The opening night of racing will be April 20 with IMCA Modifieds on the program for the 32nd consecutive season. Adult admission will be $12, kids ages 5-11 are $5 and pit passes are $30. IMCA RaceSaver Sprints join Saturday shows at I-90

HARTFORD, S.D. – A work day at the track and a barrage of phone calls from IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car drivers have owner and promoter Lyle Howey III convinced that quite a few folks in the Hartford area are excited about the re-opening of I-90 Speedway. The sanctioned Sprint division will return to IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing Saturday night programs this season at the South Dakota speedplant, idle for the past three years. The single Friday night date during the May 11-Sept. 7 point season is July 5. “There’s a lot of excitement that I-90 is opening back up,” said Howey, noting the hundred or so volunteers who showed up to help tear down the old bleachers last December. “I think the car count is going to be good for the Sprints. Season championship chase begins Friday at U.S. 36

OSBORN, Mo. – US 36 Raceway is set to open the season this Friday, April 5 with the start of the season championship chase. Four sanctioned divisions will begin championship battles. Opening night will feature the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Karl Kustoms Northern SportMods. U.S. 36 has used the offseason to make numerous improvements to the race track. This season U.S. 36 will use transponders to score each race, while also making live timing and scoring available to race fans and crews via the MyRacePass app. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. on Friday, with the grandstand gates opening at 6 p.m. Hot laps begin at 7:30 p.m. and racing will start at 8 p.m. Pit passes for the event are $35. McCrady takes charge at Dubuque Speedway, Sunday shows will feature five IMCA divisions

DUBUQUE, Iowa – New promoter Nick McCrady has a to-do list that starts with putting on an entertaining race program each and every Sunday this race season at Dubuque Speedway. “This is an awesome facility and we’re excited to work with the fair board here. Lee County Speedway will feature IMCA Late Models on Friday nights

DONNELLSON, Iowa – IMCA Late Model drivers can look forward to a warm reception when they return to Lee County Speedway this spring. The division headlines Friday night programs at Donnellson and promoter Brian Gaylord said news of the division’s return has generated a 100 percent positive response. “It’s going to be a big plus. Everyone we’ve talked to likes the idea and we’ve already heard of a lot of new cars being built,” said Gaylord. “We want to build the car count numbers up and that will help increase numbers in the grandstand.” IMCA Late Models were first sanctioned at Lee County in 1990 and last ran there weekly in 2010. Monarch Motor Speedway new on Fridays for IMCA RaceSaver Sprints, Stock Cars

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Shannon Kelton grew up at the race track. Now he’s the owner and promoter of Monarch Motor Speedway in Wichita Falls, where IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars will race on Friday nights. “This is a great facility, one of the top five if not the top three in the state. We ran here 20 years ago,” said Kelton, a long-time car owner. “We always enjoyed coming to Wichita Falls because it has a small-town feel. There are a lot of family businesses and you can walk into places and people know your name.” Kelton grew up going to races at Devil’s Bowl Speedway and completed his purchase of the former Red River Speedway in late January.
