BOTTINEAU, N.D. – IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod drivers will chase points on eight Thursday nights this season at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Bottineau. “We’re getting some interest from drivers in both divisions looking to race another night for national and state points,” said promoter Jason Laducer. “We been WISSOTA sanctioned and in keeping in line with other tracks in the area decided to go with IMCA.” Race nights on the 2017 schedule at Thunder Mountain are May 4 and 18, June 8 and 22, July 20 and 27, and Aug. 3 and 17. “These divisions are good transitions for younger drivers to what we consider entry level divisions,” Laducer said. “Once the Hobby Stock and SportMod divisions are established, our eventual goal is to have special events for IMCA Modifieds and IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars.” The all-volunteer Thunder Mountain Speedway Association is already getting the ¼-mile dirt oval ready for opening night and Laducer said “a few unique local sponsorships” are in place for the upcoming season. LUXEMBURG, Wis. – A trio of former Luxemburg Speedway promoters and a veteran driver still giving the youngsters a run for their money weekly will be inducted into Luxemburg Speedway’s Hall of Fame on Friday, Aug. 18. Tri Star Promotions members Kelly and Debbie Hafeman and Ralph Aschenbrenner along with Green Bay’s Jerry Muenster will be ushered into the track’s Hall of Fame. Tri Star Promotions promoted the weekly racing at Luxemburg Speedway for 13 seasons from 1989 through 2001. During their tenure the track boasted some of the highest weekly IMCA car counts nationwide. Kelly Hafeman himself is a former IMCA Modified champion. Muenster was the Luxemburg Speedway track champion in 1968. Despite being two full generations older than most of his on-track foes, the soon-to-be 76-year-old Muenster, the last holdover driver still competing from the track’s coupe days, still competes weekly at Luxemburg in an IMCA Modified. Montezuma County looks forward to solid car counts with return to IMCA

CORTEZ, Colo. – Kevin Faddis saw bigger grandstand numbers when he focused on promoting events at Montezuma County Fairgrounds Speedway last season. With the return of IMCA sanctioning, he’s confident of much better car count numbers in 2017. IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA SportMods return to the 3/8-mile oval at Cortez this season with half a dozen Friday-Saturday doubleheaders on the initial schedule. All three divisions have a lengthy history at Montezuma County. The Modifieds and Stocks were last sanctioned in 2015, the SportMods in 2014. “Last year, we went USRA after Aztec Speedway (an hour and a half to the southwest in New Mexico) sanctioned with them and it killed our Modified class,” Faddis said. “Guys didn’t want to run the high-dollar stuff. We decided we didn’t care what Aztec did, we were going back to IMCA.” That announcement was greeted enthusiastically by home state drivers as well as those looking to do some traveling this summer. “My wife Juanita and I being former IMCA racers ourselves, we like that the [Read More]

New IMCA sanctions have phone ringing off the hook at Lubbock’s West Texas Raceway

LUBBOCK, Texas – The phone has been ringing off the hook at West Texas Raceway. New owner and promoter Corky Matthews has made a major investment in upgrading the Lubbock track, which sanctions IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center Southern SportMods beginning in 2017. “It’s like a brand new track, probably one of the best facilities around,” Matthews said. “We’ve spent $300,000 so far on a complete remodel. It’s getting real nice and people are getting excited about coming to the races here. I’ve had 400 to 500 people call me about it already.” Nearly 40 semi loads of clay were added as the 3/8-mile oval was widened another 15 feet. “This track was built in the 1960s and I raced late models, sprint cars and street stocks on it myself,” Matthews noted. “It was one of the fastest tracks around.” New grandstand bleachers and lighting purchased from a professional football stadium are in place. New landscaping and work has already started on a 20×6-foot scoreboard. “The lights are [Read More]

New York’s Glen Ridge Motorsports Park puts IMCA Modifieds on Friday programs

FULTONVILLE, N.Y. – A perfect little track in eastern New York puts IMCA Modifieds on its Friday night programs beginning this season. Opening night for the sanctioned division at ¼-mile clay Glen Ridge Motorsports Park is now planned for April 14. “I have commitments from 15 guys now and that’s good enough for us to get the class started,” said Promoter Pete Demitraszek. “This is a perfect little track for them, I’ll tell you that. It’s a pretty quick little track.” IMCA Modifieds have made one previous appearance on the Fultonville oval, about four years ago. Demitraszek believes the economy of the division and the rules it brings with it, notably the crate engine option, will make it a success at the newest sanctioned track in IMCA’s Dirt Works Eastern Region. “I really like the rules package and the way IMCA enforces it,” he said. “Keeping the cost of racing down is important. The IMCA Modified is an economical race car and I think the crate engine is going to save the class in this [Read More]

Park Jefferson has high hopes for Saturday shows with IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Cars

JEFFERSON, S.D. – Track owner Adam Adamson believes the new IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car sanction at Park Jefferson Speedway will do more than fill a Saturday night void. The winged division becomes the sixth sanctioned class running at Park Jefferson this season, joining the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods and Mach-1 Sport Compacts. “This is a good opportunity for us. There is a real void in the South Dakota Sprint Car scene with the closing of Badlands Motor Speedway and this is an opportunity for us to open the IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car division in the Sioux City area, a traditionally strong area for IMCA,” Adamson said. “South Dakota has long been a Sprint Car hot bed, producing drivers like Larson, Dawley and Wolfgang,” he continued. “We hope that Park Jefferson can continue the tradition of South Dakota drivers while cultivating the next generation of Sprint Car stars right here in Sioux City.” IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Allstar Performance State and local track points [Read More]
