Green takes extra lap, top check at Britt Stock special

BRITT, Iowa (July 25) – That wasn’t a victory lap Derek Green took after Friday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car special at Hancock County Speedway. He was just making sure. Green collected a career-best payday of $4,000 while leading all but the first three circuits of the 25-lap county fair special. He took the checkers close to a straightaway in front of defending race winner Dan Mackenthun. “It seemed like a long race after leading for 20-some laps,” he said. “I was so pumped up that I wasn’t sure about taking the checkers, so I took another lap to make sure.” Green took the initial green flag from fourth and used an early restart to get the lead. “Once I got in front I went to the bottom. I figured I’d do that until I saw pressure from the top. I never did so I stayed low,” he said. “This is the biggest win I’ve had so far. It means a lot to me when you can have almost 50 Stock Cars at a race and [Read More]

Asbe earns first career feature win at I-35

By Greg Grabianowski MASON CITY, Iowa (July 20) – Sunday was a night to remember for Jason Asbe as he captured his first-ever feature win in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock division at I-35 Speedway. Not only had Asbe not finished in the top four in a feature this year, his best finish this summer was 11th and last week, he rolled his No. 9 car at the track. On Sunday, however, with duct tape holding his hood down and hardly a sponsor dotting his rig, he pulled his car into victory lane after the win. It was also a memorable weekend for Kyle Germundson. The Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod driver got married Saturday night and reversed his racing fortune by winning his first feature of the season at I-35 on Sunday. Last week, Germundson was in control of the feature and looking for a victory before a late caution flag changed things. One week later, he was not to be denied after starting on the outside of the front row. The IMCA Late Models [Read More]

DeBaere denies Bruns Memorial challengers

SLAYTON, Minn. (July 18) – Round two of the Dominick Bruns Memorial Challenge Cup Chase Friday at Slayton went to Murray County Speedway regular Kevin DeBaere. DeBaere led all 18 laps after starting the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car feature outside Shaun Madden on the front row. The victory, DeBaere’s second this season at Slayton, paid $1,000. Derek Green, Chris Palsrok, Elijah Zevenbergen and Dan Veenstra rounded out the top five. Runner-up in the series last season, DeBaere had Derek Green on his back bumper most of the way. Restarts following cautions near midway, then with four laps to go and finally with three laps left didn’t make his job any easier. “It felt good to win this race, DeBaere said. “The bottom line was the line that was working so that’s where you had to be.” The Chase, which raises awareness about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, concludes Aug. 10 at Redwood Speedway. Feature results – 1. Kevin DeBaere; 2. Derek Green; 3. Chris Palsrok; 4. Elijah Zevenbergen; 5. Dan Veenstra; 6. Jim Larson; 7. Jim [Read More]

Osborn, Clough, Werkmeister, Bond are Dawson County winners

By Kelly Ninas LEXINGTON, Neb. (July 20) – Lightning up the night Sunday with stellar efforts at Dawson County Raceway were IMCA hotshoes Colton Osborn, Brandon Clough, Casey Werkmeister and Kyle Bond. Grabbing the lead at halfway, Osborn powered his way to the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified victory. Osborn snared the lead on the 11th circuit and never looked back after starting in the fifth row. Breaking through in the Karl Chevrolet Northern Sport Modifieds with his first feature win of 2014 at Dawson County was Clough. He has been a mainstay inside the top five and flirted with winning but it was his night this time around as he scored the win from his front row starting position. No stranger to the winner’s circle, Werkmeister recovered quite nicely from a setback earlier in the weekend where he blew up a motor to finish with back-to-back feature wins in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division in North Platte on Saturday and Lexington on Sunday. Dillon Thompson and Bond put on a whale of show [Read More]
