Petersilie prevails on Salina’s Stand Packer Night

(June 27) – Mike Petersilie became the fourth different Belleville Motorsports IMCA Mod­ified feature winner this season at Salina Speedway, Friday on Stand Packer Night. Brandon Blochlinger took the lead early on the feature and looked to be in command for his first win of 2014 at Salina Speedway while a host of drivers sliced and diced behind him. One of those drivers was Petersilie, who had started ninth and quickly found himself working to the front of the field. He made his move into the lead with two laps left. Blochlinger held on for second, Clay Sellard came in third spot, fourth was Jesse Richter and Joe Clevland raced from 12th starting to fifth. Aaron McBride held off Tommy Fose for the Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stock win, his first this sea­son at Salina. Nate Ginest was impressive as he started in the 7th spot and worked his way to the front and won the M&H Motors IMCA Northern SportMod main event going away.

Karcz captures first SpeedZone feature win

OSHKOSH, Wis. (June 27) – Veteran Larry Karcz Jr. made his first-ever visit to victory lane at Oshkosh SpeedZone Raceway Friday night. The Total Power Sales IMCA Stock Cars saw Justin Jacobsen in front on the opening circuit with Karcz, David Hoerning, John Heinz and Dylan Heilmann close behind. The battle was a three-car contest the entire way, with Jacobsen able to deal with the pressure. Karcz went to the high side and retook the runner up spot with five laps remaining and pulled along­side Jacobsen. Karcz was scored as the leader as the white appeared and was able to hang on to collect his first-ever SpeedZone feature win and also his first feature win of the sea­son. Jacobsen finished in second with Heinz third. Marcus Yarie caught John Shultz for the lead following a lap 12 restart and won his second Automo­tive Supply Company IMCA Modified main event of the season. Steve Schneider won for the fourth time in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods.

Three first-time IMCA winners Friday at Davenport

By Mike McGuire DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 27) – Three IMCA drivers won their first local features of the season Friday at Davenport Speedway. Rob Henry captured his first Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modified feature. The 20-lap race was a classic high side-low side battle. The first half of the race it was Henry on the bottom and Mike Fluegel on the high side. The two drivers exchanged the lead four times in the first eight laps. After a lap nine restart, Fluegel got shuffled back and Joe Beal became the high-side hustler. Beal was able to get past Henry once, but the pass was erased by a caution flag. Henry was first to the checkers, with Beal second and Kelly Meyer third. Chris Zogg finished fourth and Brandon Durbin fifth. Thirty IMCA Modifieds were on hand. LaCrosse scores $2,500 IMCA Modified win at Luxemburg

By Greg Aregoni LUXEMBURG, Wis, (June 27) – Benji LaCrosse has won some big races and championships in his racing career. He added to those already illustrious accomplishments when he grabbed the $2,500 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature win Friday at Luxemburg Speedway. LaCrosse started 20th in the field, drove through traffic and survived a late race scare for the win. Scott Drake, Jason Czarapata, Lance Arneson and Shawn Kilgore completed the top five. Kilgore started up front in the main event and shot ahead of the 26-car field. By lap 10, Kilgore had a lead of about four car lengths on Jeff Taylor. Taylor ran the extreme outside to track down Kilgore and take the lead on lap 12. LaCrosse, mean­while, was charging through the field and by lap 23 found himself in third. Cook wins tune-up to Stock Car Shootout

By Jeremy Fox OSKALOOSA, Iowa (June 25) – Jason Cook tuned up for next week’s Great American Budweiser Stock Car Shootout by winning Wednesday’s main event at Southern Iowa Speedway. Brandon Jay led early in the 18-lapper with Cook knocking on the door before the only caution of the race flew on lap two, when Damon Murty got sideways and collected Todd Reitzler, Doug Sylvester and Brock Welch. Murty got moving before the yellow came out, kept his spot for the ensuing restart and was briefly in second before Cook got the position back, then passed Jay for the lead on lap five. Cook appeared to be heading to the win but Murty and Cayden Carter didn’t make it easy for him. Carter grabbed the lead coming to the white flag but Cook took back coming to the checkered to pick up his first win at Osky. Carter, Murty, Corey Stout and Jay rounded out the top five. Rookie A.J. DeVilbiss doubles up at Cortez while BSR SportMod wins go to Eddleman, Higgins

CORTEZ, Colo. (June 20-21) – Another Border States Racing Series doubleheader resulted in another sweep for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified driver Zane DeVilbiss. Jordan Eddleman and Rex Higgins, meanwhile, became the fourth and fifth IMCA SportMod driv­ers to end their night in victory lane when the tour traveled to Fairgrounds Speedway. With a pair of wins from the series’ opening twinbill already to his credit, DeVilbiss raced from ninth starting on Friday and from eighth starting Saturday to take the checkers at Cortez. He used all lines on the multi-groove oval to take the lead on the 10th of 30 circuits on Friday. Aa­ron Spangler and Eddie Farley were next across the stripe. Tulp, Swanson each win third Hancock County features

By Greg Grabianowski BRITT, Iowa (June 20) – Heath Tulp and Shane Swanson each won their third feature of the sea­son Friday at Hancock County Speedway while Keith Schmitz and Ken Winkowitsch were first-time winners. Tulp came from the outside of the fifth row in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car main event. Dan Hansel­man had a nice run to take second with Craig Berhow third, Blake Cole fourth and David Wickman fifth. The scenario in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods was the same as Swanson also came from outside the fifth row. Anthony Condit had his best run of the year to take second with Aaron Benson, Nate Chodur and Nate Hughes completing the top five. Inaugural Thunderhill Raceway Hall of Fame induction is June 28

By Edward Anschutz STURGEON BAY, Wis. – Race fans, old timers and historians this is a night you want to attend as Thunderhill Raceway will induct the first seven members into its Hall of Fame. The inaugural Class of 2014 will be inducted this Saturday, June 28. Hall of Famers are Clyde LeMieux Sr., Irv Ettien, Les Sternard, Dale Knudson, Joe Haferkorn, Butch Georgenson and Fritz VanDuyse. The program is sponsored by Wicked Witch Enterprises. Tom Wagner is hosting the night’s events and will be calling the action on the track as well. Five divisions do battle Saturday, the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks and the Street Stocks. The bounty for anyone who can beat Bill LeMieux in the Street Stocks now stands at $400. The only rules to the bounty are that LeMieux must finish and it must be clean race. Racing gets underway at 6 p.m. Adult admission is $10 at the front gate.

Bruns sails to Voss Memorial feature win

ARLINGTON, Minn. (June 21) – After they drained the track, Shaun Bruns left the rest of Saturday’s IMCA Sunoco Stock Car field at Arlington Raceway in his wake. Bruns pocketed what turned out to be $1,700 for winning the inaugural Joe Voss Memorial after starting third, going to the bottom to pass front row starters Matthew Schauer and Dan Mackenthun coming out of turn two and leading all 20 laps. He pulled away from the pack following restarts on laps eight and 13. Mackenthun closed while Bruns battled handling issues but ran out of time and had to settle for second. Elijah Zevenbergen, Derek Green and Schauer completed the top five. “They did a great job getting the track ready,” Bruns said. “They pulled an all-nighter pumping water off so we could race.” Feature results – 1. Myron DeYoung paces Crystal Modifieds

CRYSTAL, Mich. (June 21) – Myron DeYoung raced to his first win of the season in the final event of the night Saturday at Crystal Motor Speedway. Brad Stanke shot out front of the Port City Race Car IMCA Modified feature with Brody Bowser and Chad Wernette in tow. Bowser took the lead away as DeYoung and A.J. Ward moved into the top five. DeYoung wres­tled with Bowser for several laps before finally taking the lead. As DeYoung pulled away, Bowser and Ward battled for second with Wernette just behind them. Brennen DeYoung got loose as he entered turn one and several cars were 1nvolved with most able to continue back under green, Myron DeYoung led Bowser, Ward, and Wernette as he slowly stretched his lead out. DeYoung went on to IMCA career win number 93 over Mike Shanteau and Kenny Playter.
