Wray makes memorable Thunderhill debut

By Bill Grit MAYETTA, Kan. (May 3) – Cory Wray made his debut at Thunder Hill Speedway a memorable one Saturday night, as he used his front row outside starting position for all it was worth to win the BSB Manufacturing IMCA Modified main event. Defending champion Tom Charles started middle of the field while Allen Halderman started deep in the field in the 10th row inside. A caution restacked the field, where Wray used that same line to his advantage and again commanded the lead. When the checkered flag flew it was Wray standing in the Pit Pass Liquor Victory Lane with Justin Becker, Charles, Mat Stallbaumer and Halderman finishing out the top five. Twenty-five Belleville Motor Sports IMCA Northern SportMods took the green flag. The father and son duo of Rick Dreasher and Curtis Dreasher proved to be a force to be reckoned with, as they raced nose to tail throughout the entire race. A couple cautions bunch the field back together as Curtis Dreasher tried to outrace his father into first place. [Read More]

Czarneski collects $1,000 in first Red, White & Blue race at 141

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (May 3) – Tim Czarneski stepped up to win round one of the Red, White and Blue Series and $1,000 Saturday night at 141 Speedway. The victory in the first of three RW & B specials for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at 141 this season put Czarneski on the ballot for the 2014 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. It also gave him an early leg up in the race to win a 604 crate engine from series sponsor Gandrud Chevrolet. Traveler Darin Duffy found himself the early leader of a race that saw cautions slow the early going. Duffy put distance on the field through the first five laps. Czarneski then found the high line and started to reel in the frontrunner. “I wanted to pass him off of turn two when I caught him but he pushed in (corners) three and four, so that’s when I dove inside for the lead,” Czarneski said of what proved to be his race-winning pass on lap eight. Czarneski then moved back [Read More]

Carter pulls off second straight at Salina

SALINA, Kan. (May 2) – After a strong opening night last week, everyone was waiting to see if Salina Speedway could follow up on the magic from week one. Yes, they could. One driver in particular, Austin Carter, is enjoying the 2014 season. After Friday night at Salina Speedway Carter remains undefeated on the season in the M&H Motors IMCA Northern SportMod division as he won his second straight feature. It wasn’t an easy win for Carter. He started 10th on the grid and there were some tough competitors in the 20-car main. Tyler Post looked to have the win all but locked up. Post started eighth in but by virtue of picking drivers off one at a time he found himself at the front of the pack. Post, unfortunately, had to deal with a late-race yellow. As the restart got underway Carter found a way to take over the lead and go on to the win. A good old fashioned barn burner had the fans on their feet for the Budweiser IMCA Hobby Stock [Read More]

New winners in week two at Riviera Raceway

By Randy Pospishil sports@norfolkdailynews.com NORFOLK, Neb. (May 3) – Four different drivers made it to victory lane at Riviera Raceway in week two … in fact, none of the four had been in the top three the week before. Ramsey Meyer of Pierce won the feature for the Mach-1 Sport Compacts, while three Norfolk drivers took home trophies in the other divisions, including Jim Kimmel in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks race, Nelson Vollbrecht in the Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod, and Robert Osborne in Grand Nationals. For Meyer, last year’s national champion, this season’s first win at Riviera is his sixth first-place finish so far in 2014, well ahead of last season’s pace when, at this same time, he had no wins. “We’ve won races in three different states so far,” Meyer said. “We won specials in Kansas and South Dakota. At one time we were the points leader in three different states. We’re ahead of schedule so far, we just need to keep it up. We did well in the specials, so we’re just [Read More]

The third different winner in as many IMCA Eagle Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car tour events this season, Lawson led the last 10 circuits. Charlie Ware and Chris Ware brought the field to green and Chris Ware led the first lap before Anthony Linkenhoker took over and began making good time. Laps on the pavement clicked off quickly. Tony Harris broke a logjam at the front and got by for the lead. Lawson was right there with them, got around Linkenhoker a couple laps later and was challenging the leader right away. With 10 laps to go, Lawson got around Tony Harris as Jerald Harris, French Grimes and Tom Humphries tried to stay in contention. White, Gustin get first Independence Motor Speedway wins

By Ryan Clark INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (May 3) – Matt White made his first career visit to Independence Motor Speedway a memorable one as the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock driver used a late race pass to drive to victory Saturday night. White rolled off 10th on the starting grid and worked his way through the field while pole-sitter Brian Happel held the lead. Happel was pestered by Jamie Whitaker and Jacob Keiser as White made his way into the top six before the race’s first caution on lap 10. White powered into the runner-up spot one lap after racing resumed and just before the final caution on the 11th circuit of the 15-lapper. White took two laps following that restart to work past Happel on his way to the win. Happel ran second ahead of teammate Chad Albert. Jenae Gustin also earned her first Independence win, that coming in the 15-lap Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod feature. From a second row start, Gustin quickly worked the low side into the lead and pulled away from traffic. She [Read More]
