Delp, Hansen earn first EQ Wild West Tour wins

VERNAL, Utah (June 27-28) – Two veterans of the EQ Cylinder Heads Wild West Tour made long-awaited stops in victory lane when the series for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds visited Diamond Mountain Speedway. Casey Delp won his first tour feature on Friday at Vernal. Chase Hansen accomplished the same feat on Saturday, also earning $1,000 and joining Delp as a new candidate on the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot. Point leader Justen Yeager came into the series weekend with a three-race winning streak and ran second both nights. Michael Hale, Jake Donnelly and Eddie Belec completed Friday’s top five. Belec, Jeff Hunter and Bert Beech ended third, fourth and fifth, respectively, on Saturday. Delp counted three runner-up showings in 36 career Wild West Tour starts coming into the weekend. Hogge aces Nor-Cal feature at Antioch

ANTIOCH, Calif. (June 28) – Bobby Hogge IV fought his way to the top, picking off the highly competitive field of drivers one by one in winning Saturday’s Nor-Cal Challenge Series main event for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds at Antioch Speedway. “I had some problems in the middle of the race,” Hogge said in victory lane. “I almost spun out once.” Coming from 12th starting position in the 16-car field, Hogge watched as a battle waged for the lead between Kellen Chadwick and Ryan McDaniel. Williamson wins fourth Cottage Grove Modified Nationals crown

By Ben Deatherage COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (June 28) – Jesse Williamson added a career fourth Cottage Grove IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified Nationals trophy to his collection Saturday night. The victory paid $1,520 and came at the end of a 50-lap main event. Jeremy Shank, Nick Trenchard, Kyle Casson and Braedon Hand rounded out the top five in the Pacific Northwest racing jewel. Williamson was in the lead from the start and set a rapid pace but had to negotiate lapped traffic around the lap 17 mark. A lap 21 caution bunched up the field and a mandatory caution stopped the race at halfway. The feature went green the rest of the way with Williamson in front with mounting pressure from contenders behind him as the laps continued to click away. In the final 10 circuits Shank threw his name in the mix. Shank, who started 11th, operated on the bottom the track and closed the gap. Humphries glad to be at Dixieland

(June 27) – Tom Humphries took the win at the first of two Virginia Sprint Series visits to Dixieland Speedway Friday night, holding off Jerald Harris and Glenn Worrell. The IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car tour victory was Humphries second straight and third in seven series events so far this season. Charlie Ware and Chris Ware paced the field as the green waved with Charlie Ware taking off bringing Worrell along. The two were glued together until Worrell got by on lap four and Charlie was left to deal with the closing pack. Worrell was leading when a quick yellow waved at halfway with Humphries and Harris right behind. Worrell took off and stayed fast but Humphries was on the attack, chopping high and low lap after lap until he and Harris both got by with six laps to go. Humphries stayed out front with Harris right behind. Worrell, Troy Severin and Anthony Linkenhoker completed the top five. LaCrosse scores $2,500 IMCA Modified win at Luxemburg

By Greg Aregoni LUXEMBURG, Wis, (June 27) – Benji LaCrosse has won some big races and championships in his racing career. He added to those already illustrious accomplishments when he grabbed the $2,500 IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature win Friday at Luxemburg Speedway. LaCrosse started 20th in the field, drove through traffic and survived a late race scare for the win. Scott Drake, Jason Czarapata, Lance Arneson and Shawn Kilgore completed the top five. Kilgore started up front in the main event and shot ahead of the 26-car field. By lap 10, Kilgore had a lead of about four car lengths on Jeff Taylor. Taylor ran the extreme outside to track down Kilgore and take the lead on lap 12. LaCrosse, meanwhile, was charging through the field and by lap 23 found himself in third. A caution on lap 30 put Kilgore and LaCrosse on Taylor’s back bumper. Both Kilgore and LaCrosse timed the restart perfectly and went three-wide with Taylor for a near full lap. Mullen has $10,000 reasons to celebrate at Clash at the Creek

By Greg Aregoni FRANCIS CREEK, Wis. (June 26) – Some guys never earn $10,000 in their career, let alone win that amount in one night. That is exactly what Mike Mullen accomplished with his IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified victory Thursday at 141 Speedway, leading all 50 laps of the Clash at the Creek. Twenty-four of the best Modified drivers in the country were pared from 69 entries, from 10 states, for the sixth annual special and Mullen started on the pole by virtue of two heat wins on Wednesday night. Mullen opened up strong with a half straightaway lead by lap 10 over Darin Duffy. Jeff Taylor worked his way around Duffy by lap 20, right before the only caution of the race came out. When the race restarted, Mullen again forged ahead with Taylor in tow. Josh Long had started 13th on the field and started knocking off cars as he ran a smooth race down low. Ten Modified drivers punch tickets into Clash at the Creek

(June 25) – Ten IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified drivers have punched their tickets into Thursday’s $10,000 to win main event at 141 Speedway’s Clash at the Creek. Mike Mullen of Suamico, Darin Duffy of Urbana, Iowa, Jeff Taylor of Cave City, Ark., Kyle Strickler of Mooresville, N.C., Scott Hogan of Vinton, Iowa, Eric Mahlik of Green Bay, James Tebon of Algoma, Troy Cordes of Dunkerton, Iowa, Johnny Whitman of DePere and Sean Jerovetz of Sobieski are locked into the show by virtue of their top 10 in the standings. Last chance races will be held Thursday to add the final 14 drivers to the main event field. Modifieds ran two Wednesday heats with the same starters in each; the second heat was run with a completely inverted start. Drivers again received points based on their finish and passing points. McDaniel visits Antioch, takes home Modified trophy

ANTIOCH, Calif. (June 14) – Visitor Ryan McDaniel took the checkered flag Saturday at Antioch Speedway, ending hometown ace Michael Salazar’s hope of a repeat victory in the IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified main event. “I knew he would be the guy to beat tonight,” Salazar said after the feature. “Ryan is one of the top drivers in the division, and he runs well here every time he visits.” Salazar saw McDaniel blast by him early in the event. Restarts afforded opportunities for Salazar to challenge the leader but McDaniel soon walked away. With just two laps to go, Randy Brown snatched second place after a duel with Salazar. “The track had bottom, middle and top grooves tonight – it was great,” McDaniel said after his runaway victory. “Once I discovered I could run up top, I was able to get more straightaway speed and break away from the pack.” Brown, who was gaining speed as the race wore on, emerged as a contender. Ward brings home the bacon at Greased Pig 4.0

AUBURN, Mich. (June 13) – After finding his way through lapped traffic, A.J. Ward found himself in victory lane Friday night at Tri-City Motor Speedway. Ward repeated as winner of Tri-City’s Greased Pig special for IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modifieds. The 4.0 version of the event put $1,014 in his pocket. Fourth starting Craig Vance dominated the first 20 laps of the event while Ward moved his way through traffic toward the front. Ward completed his pass for the lead on the 21st circuit; Vance attempted to make an inside pass in turn three but his car caught a rut and sent him into one of the track tires. Vance barrel-rolled twice before coming to a stop on his wheels. He walked away unhurt but the car did not fare so well. The incident bunched up the field for the final 10 laps. Cole’s first Yates County Speedway visit ends with Friesen Chevrolet Empire State feature win

DUNDEE, N.Y. (June 15) – Matt Cole might have himself a new favorite track. Cole made his first visit to Yates County Speedway on Sunday and came away with his career-first Friesen Chevrolet Empire State Series victory. “It’s a fun little track,” said the third-year IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified driver. “My luck at new tracks has been pretty good so far this season. Hopefully that’s something we can continue.” Keith Lamphere led much of the way before giving up the lead to Cole in the late going and finishing second. Rich Karlnoski, Bumps Scutt and Mike Griffin completed the top five. Gary Smith and Lamphere led the pack to green with Smith grabbing the early lead. Lamphere took over briefly before relinquishing the lead to Chris Fleming. Fleming and Lamphere went side-by-side for several laps. Their battle ended following a lap 14 restart, however, when the rear locked up on Fleming’s car and sidelined him for the balance.
