Wray checks forecast, then checks out at Beatrice Octoberfest

BEATRICE, Neb. (Oct. 11-12, 2024) – Cory Wray checked the forecast, then he checked out. The Friesen Performance IMCA Modified hotshoe from Trenton, Mo., made his first visit to Beatrice Speedway in five years for the season-ending Octoberfest special, leading all 25 laps of Saturday’s $2,000 to win feature. “We looked at the weather, saw it was going to be nice and decided to race one more weekend,” said Wray, newly eligible to qualify for the Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. “It was a good way to end the season.” He’d started third and took the lead coming to the line at the end of lap one. A lap four caution bunched the field back together but Wray pulled away and was running in traffic late in the contest. Johnny Saathoff was second, Braxton Yeager third. Justin Zeitner motored from 15th starting to fourth for hard charger honors. Jordan Grabouski, most recently a three-time Octoberfest main event winner in 2020, topped Friday’s $1,000 to win feature for the Modifieds and both $750 to win features for the [Read More]

By Candice Martin ANTIOCH, Calif. (Oct. 4, 2024) – Andrew Pearce won the 25-lap Friesen Performance IMCA Modified feature Friday at Antioch Speedway’s second annual JD Willis Salute. Points is The Man at Willamette

By Ben Deatherage LEBANON, Ore. (Sept. 28, 2024) – Trevor Points, a force to be reckoned with, once again showcased his dominance Saturday at Willamette Speedway.  Taking the lead shortly after a restart in the early stages, the Salem standout led the field in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMod feature. The race kicked off with Jacob Shandy taking the lead on the first lap. However, Nate Turnidge was not far behind, keeping Shandy within his sights. With an impressive move outside of Shandy in turn two, Turnidge seized the top spot on the next lap. Before Turnidge could build a significant lead, the race’s first stoppage occurred on lap five. On the ensuing restart, Points entered the fray by getting around Shandy on the high side of turn two, ran down Turnidge, and got under and around the leader to perform the overtake out of turn four. From there, Points seemed to be in firm control of the lead as he had to deal with several restarts but, on the same token, did not get [Read More]

Lessons learned take rookie to first IMCA Stock Car win

QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. (Oct. 4, 2024) – As a spectator and new to dirt track racing, Mitchell Ferguson thought the IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars looked fast and fun. As a rookie in The Class Too Tough To Tame, he learned you don’t have to go fast to win. The Queen Creek, Ariz., driver had 36 starts under his belt before ending his freshman campaign at Desert Thunder Raceway’s Castle Country Clash. He sandwiched career win number one between second-place finishes in earning the overall title at the season-ending special. “It was a big accomplishment and it didn’t come easy. When I got to second place, the leader was almost a straightaway ahead of me. I just ran my line, it took about three laps and I passed him on the bottom,” said Ferguson, owner of a drilling company based in the Grand Canyon State. “It was hard to keep my emotions under control. I didn’t even see the checkers come out and I did another lap.” “It (that first win) took longer than I wanted but [Read More]

By Ben Deatherage BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. (Sept. 28, 2024) – Jake Pike took control of the race lead in the Friesen Performance IMCA Modified division within the first 10 laps and would conquer the Saturday feature at Mohave Valley Raceway. When the green flag unleashed the field, Wyatt Maxwell emerged ahead in the fierce battle for the lead on the opening lap. A caution nullified his advantage over second place. As the restart reignited the competition, Noah Geer, fueled by determination, surged forward to challenge the leader. Geer successfully obtained the top position on lap three and began to take off from the rest of the pack. As the green flag run developed, Pike moved into third and tried to run down the runner-up, Eric Hamilton. The second caution of the race was a pivotal moment. Pike, demonstrating his skill, applied immense pressure on Geer for the lead. Navigating turns three and four with precision, Pike executed a brilliant maneuver to overtake Geer and claim the lead.
