By Mike Hughes HAYS, Kan. (Aug. 29) – Hometown driver Cody Graham won the Golden Plains Trucking IMCA Hobby Stock feature Saturday at RPM Speedway but had to work hard for it. Jace Smith took the early lead when the red flag came out on lap six when Mark Normandin rolled. Normandin was not injured but was done for the night. Smith led the field back to green and continued to lead at the halfway mark of the 20-lap race with Graham, Colton Pfeifer and Shay Simoneau in a heated battle for the runner-up spot. Graham finally got around Smith on lap 14 to take a lead he would not relinquish.  Smith held on for second, followed by Pfeifer, Simoneau and Garrett Hager. Ryan Murphy led all 12 laps to pick up his first win at RPM Speedway in the Cutting Edge Collision IMCA Sport Compact feature. Art Herzog chased Murphy most of the race and the field had a chance when the caution waved on lap 11, setting up a green-white-checkered finish, but Murphy [Read More]

Abelson adds third Tiny Lund trophy to collection

HARLAN, Iowa (Aug. 29) – For the third time in his career, Chris Abelson stood tallest at Shelby County Speedway’s Tiny Lund Memorial. Abelson held off Nick Deal in winning Saturday’s 25-lap main event for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds. “It was definitely a battle,” the national point leader said following his 31st victory of the season. “It was a good race and fun for sure.” Abelson drew the inside row four start and was in the lead when the fifth circuit was scored. He’d trade the lead with Sobbing and led to the finish once he got back in front. The late-race storyline included lapped traffic and one final restart. Deal was threatening on the high side, so Abelson moved higher on the oval himself. Deal, Sobbing, Jacob Anson and Adam Larson completed the top five. Along with the $1,000 checkers, Abelson earned a spot on the ballot for the 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational. He’d also won the Tiny Lund main event for Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods in 2006 and the Modified headliner [Read More]
